I Found The Best DIY Custom Retro PC... But Nobody Wants It
After fixing the 20 buck marketplace PC its time to make it into a cool as retro gaming beauty out of stuff I had laying around, to show you what is possible. I start by Modding the side panel with a plexiglass Window, it cost 15 bucks from local sign shop. I slapped in the 2006 CPU of the year in the Intel® Core™2 Duo E6600, 2.4 GHz you can find these for 5 bucks. Then I setup a GPU riser, UV lights and colored fans all free stuff I had already from other project. Then I refurbish my 25 buck artifacting NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX, by reflowing the solder joints in the oven, then clean and replace the thermal pads and paste. This makes it running much cooler and without showing any artifacts...

I found some treasure in the in-laws basement a dead Nintendo Entertainment System from 1985 and a 2007 HP Pavilion dv9500 Notebook PC with a broken screen. So instead of taking them to the junkyard I decided to stuff the HP laptop MB into the NES case to make a retro gaming PC that looks like a NES. I call it the HPNES aka HaPpyNES! How I weld up small pin holes in panel steel
This is good for people with soldering skills which I'm novice at best, but I think I'll look for a mail in modding service so I don't burn a board, good video though, and good luck to those who have the skills.
No worries mate what ever get the job done, regardless thanks for watching
I can’t stop watching people take these things apart properly to do whatever with it’s so cool keep it up man world needs more of that
Thanks so much mate!
Quick question. How do you actually launch games online? I read that if you navigate around in the menus and open homebrew like aurora/xex menu, you can get banned as your account will show you were last active on weird homebrew apps. So how do people boot games online? Couldn't find a proper answer somehow. Thanks.
@@akiraperera9574 it's not worth it even if you use shadow servers (if they still exist) you might still get banned better just for playing offline games...
the resistor and diode aren’t required anymore
@@nothxgs I used a resistor but what diode I didn't add any diode?
@ watch other guides they aren’t required
okay thanks
Puts "easy modding" in the title, precedes to strip the console down to base parts and the brings out the soldering iron.
Bro if you get stuck just hit me up I'll try help ya out ;)
best budget guide i seen a while m8 great job an cheers
Cheers mate this was a lot of fun, hard work but well worth it!
can i use a 30w solder iron for this?
Yes that's heaps just give it 5 min to warm up ;)
Awesome stuff. My ps3 slim needs new nectokin capictors soldered ...
@@LiamWhit cheers mate. Definitely worth doing that for the old beast especially if its 1st gen ;)
back in the day you would drool over computers like these! but nowadays they all look the same and when others see it they don't seem very impressed because it's nothing they have never seen before. good times
haha so true good times alright :)
thank you so much. not much video shows me how to setup initial HD in youtube. THANKS million@!
Thanks for watching mate
Jerry rigging together a hardware mod is my kinda jam, why spend money on new cables and stuff when you've got it at home :)
haha glad someone gets it cheers mate 😁
Flux isn’t expensive and will solve 90% of soldering problems, that said the flux you have is so much less convenient than flux in a syringe! Give it a go
I used flux just not 6 gallons, yes 100% syringe's work really good!
Awesome mate! Keep it up... i would love to see your take on a xeon mod 775 build
Cheers mate that would be so much fun I will keep a eye out for one :)
Wtf is solder? Yea fuck all this, what gamer would know how to do this science shit
Soldering is literally just binding metals, if that’s too hard then pay someone $150+ for one pre modded
Pro tip: You can reduce the chance of GPU artifacting by undervolting properly. Doing this a bit too much can *ironically* lead to artifacting (which will follow with a game crash) under stressingly high loads.
True that can help a lot with temps as well.
It really isa pretty easy mod to do if you know how to solder. Everyone says the hardest part is the tiny connections on the back and the masking you have to scrape off but I struggled the most with the ground when you're wiring up the nand. You really need a hot iron with a large contact to get solder to flow on that pad.
Fully and if you can get one cheap or have one lying around why not give it ago ;)
Beautiful
9:30: That... aged a lot better than I think you intended it to. 😱
RIP my thrift store game hunting going to have to be a lot more picky on the disk quality 😵
Does it matter what update your Xbox is on? Can I be on the latest firmware?
Good question, yes you can be on the latest firmware and if your not there is no harm in updating to the latest version before doing the RGH3 hack.
@@TheDiWHYGuy Thank you. I was always terrified of performing an RGH as a kid. With the skills I have today I’m gonna give it a go. Thanks to your very detailed video and engaging humor I have all the confidence in the world. Also the tip you gave in the video on disabling Xbox live connection answered another question I’ve had for a very long time. I was always scared I was gonna receive a console ban. Would you recommend removing my main profile before doing this or is it safe to use my Xbox live account as long as I disable Xbox live?
@@vinniequodling1678 that's awesome I'm sure you will nail it 😁 you can use your profile but don't sign it to Xbox live for this I would make a new profile and account and use shadow servers because once your online there is still a chance to get band so it would suck to loss your main account with all you achievements etc maybe I should do a video on how to get online working...

"easy"
I tried doing this to a few PCs, Destroyed My Compaq Case with a P4, I didnt have Proper Tools, let along a Dremil. I Found an early Harbor Freight in Nashville. Needless to say it wasnt up for the Job LOL
Oh no it happens only one way to learn! I probs make it look easy, as I been cutting tiles for a job for over 20 years so grinders are a extension of my arm at this point haha, but yeah best way to get good is find some scrap a good blade ie carbon cut off disk for steel, Dimond for masonry, and just go to town cutting out shapes and straight lines....

If anyone is curious about temps if you delid the chips and put liquid metal, you can get around 54C° on CPU and 50C° on GPU with it. Mine is like that at least, which is quite good.
That's awesome I really want to do that and water cooling just waiting for pay day to get the resources 😉
@@TheDiWHYGuy To be honest, at this point, I don't think a water cooler would be really necessary, unless you want to overclock the thing pretty heavily or something, though I'm not sure that's possible (I know it's possible on PS3 though). These temps also hold up while playing more demanding games, like Gears of War 3, and there is practically no difference between the idle and the under load temps. All in all, I'd say delidding is definitely worth it. Oh, and I should probably add that mine is also a Trinity, the exact same model as the one shown in the video.
Your right water cooling is most likely 100% unnecessary will just be for the challenge and looks the only benefit I can think of is might make thing a bit quieter and yeah like you say could overclock it if possible I'll defiantly look into it could be interesting for testing purposes. Nice best model if you ask me, cheers mate I look forward to the delid and at least with the Trinity its only one chip...
Can't connect to wifi for some reason, any fix?
if you already reset the router and Xbox and still not working you might need to unplug and replug the WiFi adapter board on the front of the Xbox you can see it @ 1.29 min check there is no corrosion on the connectors and the screw is in good luck mate
Nice work bro love the channel
Thanks mate hopefully I can get started on my next video soon...
Brilliant mate got ya self a new sub from Perth WA...
Cheers mate, that's awesome thanks so much. Nice I got some friends and family's over there looks like a cool place 😎
Your full of shit no one sells $5 Raspberry pie
as an RGH seller who has modded hundreds of these... love the video. Only problem is: DO NOT encourage people to remove X-Clamps like that.... i am surprised you didnt break your console doing that as well Also tip: you dont have to remove the sticker to disengage the clip, you can just stap a metal pin trough it
Cheers mate what's the best way to take it off? This was the 1st one I ever took apart...
It's definitely not ideal but a lot of people (including me) have used that method successfully. It's ideal to get an x clamp tool but if you're just a hobbyist who's going to only ever do one you can save a few bucks.
This it the most unhinged and inopportune way to mod a 360. I love it.
haha cheer mate
Mine says the data is corrupted 8002F225,I downloaded the 4.91 and used 3 different hdd 😂 i dont thinh its a hdd problem
Try these things: Unplug PS3 from Power Outlet. Hold ON button for a minute while unplugged, replug and try again. Make sure that the Pendrive is in the right USB port (the closest port to the Blu ray reader). Re format the Pendrive to FAT32. (Try different Pendrive if you can). Make sure the folders are correct names and the names are in UPPER CASE Unplug the Joystick USB cable/charger when you don't need to press anything, specially when the installation starts. And if its still don't work Dissasemble your PS3 and reconnect EVERYTHING from the motherboard, every ribbon cable, PSU cables... maybe some lose cable on the Blu Ray player could prevent you from updating, for example. Make sure to leave everything as it was and be careful to not damage anything (and unplug the console from the wall, of course). Clean the contacts carefully with iso, good luck mate!
I tried everything lol but maybe the hdd damaged the ps3 somehow I dont really know.In the past i tried to jailbreak it with a wrong file and the hdd is cursed now but thank for the advices 👌
sad but it might be good for spear parts one day...
i love your channel. keep it up. also did you have a look at brungus studios?

Nothing to loss rocky 20 buck card so far played 4 hours of zombies and this card is running 20c coolers now so fingers crossed she holds on for some retro gaming might be a fun live stream challenge see if it can out last me on a gaming sesh haha
It does work, but it's not a permanent solution unless you have the proper equipment. I used to do re-flows like this (supporting the components of course) on my 4870x2 years and years ago. Kept it going for a couple of months until I finally replaced it.
just like blowing into a Nintendo cartridge.
good times
Ive done this with xbox 360s and a couple amd GPUs...it never lasts. A heat gun would be more effective at heating just the memory and die just move back and forth in small lines and circles about 6 inches away from the board for 15 minutes or so. It lasts a bit longer that way. I get it as something when you're waiting till you can afford a new card. What this isnt for is "fixing" dead gpus for a profit. Out of the 50-60 devices ive reflowed only 2-3 was truly fixed and that was because the device was dropped which caused cracked solder joints. All the other times they were dead in 1-2 months again with the occasional survivor that would live about 6 months tops.

Did it a few times - unfortunately not a permanent solution. But it should carry you over the time save for a new one.

That vertical gpu mount does not bellong in that pc
Why not
why not ? that GPU looks better than any rtx 4090
My PC in 2006 had a vertical mount not for the same reason it was a mini mini tower and could take a full size card that way, funny part it didn't even have a window but they did exist back then...

@@Kage0No0Tenshi the struggle is real good luck sure you will get there before long
I dont understand if this is satire or real
I've done this with a radeon gpu back in the day, it's only really to extend the life of an already dying unit
This is a very real trick. It basically melts the solder slightly to make sure any faulty connections are reconnected. It's only really a temporary fix to keep a malfunctioning card going for a bit longer.
Its real with some added humor
why should you clean the oven after use? is it vapour from the gpu? like lead or something
basically the vapors from most materials there like plastic, lead, etc. are mostly cancer causing or poisonous
Yes and caladium
Reflow solder? Does it close any gaps and cracks ?
It can only make the connections like new if the PCB is cracked the only thing you can do is make jumper wires by ether scathing the tracers to the copper and bridging the crack or tracking the circuit to the nearest components and joining them with a jumper wire replacing the broken tracer.
Thanks. I have some old acer aspires from 2009 I'm working on. They may be dead. Some rust on the exterior connectors; usbs and charger plugs.
@@Riptide2533 Sweet hopefully you can get them going. Rust is like cancer you got to get rid of it with a wire brush, steel wool or sand paper, should help and you can use connection silicone to stop them rusting again even and if they do work you can paint the outside / non connection parts. good luck mate!
Why upside down?
So The solder don't fall out
Solder ain't falling out on a reflow with such low temps, you are far more likely to lose unsupported components than you are to lose any solder. I used to do this on my 4870x2 when it was on its way out.

Great video, it's cool to see what a top-tier gaming rig from 2006 looks like, it shows how far computing has come. I have fond memories of playing BO2 on the Xbox 360 with my brother, our step-father went out for the launch to get us a copy as a surprise. The map Transit blew our 11 year-old minds. Everyone who wants a cheap gaming PC should do this, it teaches you so much about computers and saves you a load of money. I upgraded an old Asus PC from 2014 with an i3-3220T and an GT 620, swapped out the CPU for a i7 3770k and the GPU for an RX 580, it's not the most powerful thing in the world but it beats not being able to play PC games at all. The only issue is you do get the bug and then you are chasing bottlenecks, my next upgrade will probably be a newer motherboard, CPU and faster ram. I will only do that until I want to play a game that isn't on Xbox that warrants the upgrade.
Thanks mate that's cool it reminded you of those good times, I can relate to that Transit still blows my mind and I use to play on Xbox as well good times all round. 100% right about that! Sounds like a good allrounder PC build you have there and sounds like you have gotten a good amount of longevity out of it. A lot of people think you have to upgrade your computer every few years, that is crazy to me a PC should last 10 years minimum and even then it should be good for older games and programs etc just got to optimize and look after it. Sounds like your doing well keep up the good work!
GREAT VIDEO!~
Thanks mate!
