Vol. 2 How difficult is it to DIY fit a SUPERCHARGER to an MG BGT? - Head Off Decompression Plate
I'm surprised you aren't familiar with this problem from your time with the MGTF! I think these pretensioners play up through lack of use. Mine fixed itself after I remade the underseat connectors and started using the car. I'd put in an airbag warning light override switch but I didn't need it in the end. Also for your safety, don't use a multimeter to test pretensioner resistance. It'll put a small current through which could set off the explosive charge. To trace the errant unit (if there is one) emulate each one in turn by sticking a 2to3 ohm resistor (for an MGTF. Check the Alfa forum for yours) across the connection from the ECU.
Easy way to tell if you’re on the compression stroke…. Remove the spark plug ,rotate engine with your thumb over the hole ,you will feel the pressure as piston comes up !!
Just to add there is a clip to undo at the rear behind the seat which would allow more movement of the leather at the front but it’s then hard to do the rear part of the squab. You worked it out but it was funny to watch you push down on the seat whilst trying to lift it up 😂 Everything does look tidy when pushed back. Warning to anyone doing this is that some of those metal parts are sharp! Good result 👍
Looks a lot better, well done and stay well.
Nicely done mate, hot air gun will srink it to how you want it damp it first then massage ,plenty of videos on the tube . Gra J
I remember edd China putting a plastic bag over the foam to make it easier getting the cover on and to keep the foam in shape
Great job, well done
The proper name is a squab
Puppy dog wants to help 😂
Is that a deepsea jc 😎😍 bolster looks good too 😂👍
Yeah... I keep forgetting to take it off when working on the car.
Sound quality very poor, haven't noticed that on previous vids.
Is that an "authorised" USB device :-)
I take it you've tried the switch in the other position?
I think you should take the backseat up and look at the Airbag ecu connector as Acealfa said. Maybe use Fiat ePer parts catalog to input your vin and check you even have the correct ECU part number if the date is suspicious.
Had the same code on an Alfa 145 - new ECU needed. Good luck finding one that is a match.
Unplug the ECU for an hour. Then say red backwards times, check and clean connections and give it another go. Good Luck
ECU time by the look of it....
The resistance readings are correct, 100 & 400 ohms. I would take rear seat out and check continuity of the wires to the airbag ECU & if they are ok replace the ECU.
I was just thinking I know a guy who could help with this and then I read the comments and here you are 👍😂………Alright Jake! 😂
I did exactly this today, continuity is OK so a new used ECU has bed ordered.... cheers buddy.
Wheres 3 rd part of supercharged mgb
Complimenti!!! guido quest' auto dal 1999 ancora e' nel mio garage, acquista sempre piu valore, e' un classico sportivo Italiano, non scherziamo!!
I’ve just got the same car, similar price. I had a knock, I think your aftermarket exhaust is knocking. The silencer is transverse and the mounts aren’t the same as OEM. Check the ones that are supposed to be there are all in place. I sorted mine with a wizard which switches the orientation of the middle silencer. You’re welcome to my old one if yours is problematic. You can also have my upgraded speakers as the OEM ones are terrible.
Thanks for the advice buddy. and the offer of parts that's great. I'll let you know. Thanks for watching.
the back of this car is awful , and is telegraphed by the comparison of the front and side views , which are lovely ... what was ar thinking ?
I understand your point, but it does grow on you...... 😃
- Less than £3K?? How'd you manage that? Most GTVs in Auto-trader or Car and Classic are around £5-£7K for a decent mileage 3.0. V6.
The power of a unseen gamble on Ebay..... a few knocking about.
The microphone you use sounds odd. Maybe noise cancellation is on as it sounds a bit muted and very distorted when driving. I would like to hear more raw sound so we can hear the clunking you mention.
Yeah I had a nightmare with my mic in the car, had to use the camera internal mic. But that needed manipulation with software as it was bad.... still not great but better that it was. I'm working on better solutions. Thanks for watching.
So you thought you'd dodged the bullet with the notrious MGTF bonnet catch failure 😆
... lol, I had trouble with that one too.... this one is proving to be a little more tricky. Thanks for watching.
Looks great after that deep clean 👍
It does, and so much more inviting, I'm obsessed with driving it now!.. Thanks for watching.
Can I buy the CDA (carbon air intake) from you please?
I have someone already interested, I'll let you know if that doesn't work out.
Definitely pull that foam out at @5:33.
Agreed.... and sooner rather than later. Who ever thought that was a good idea obviously hadn't been to the UK.
Nice motor..... good luck !!!
Thanks 👍
I have that type of key. I was told that particular key was not supplied to UK spec cars. Mine was a grey import, originally registered in Germany. They also use a different alarm system and ECU. I spoke to Abacus Alarms about it. The chip in my key was dead, so I ended up with an aftermarket Auto Watch alarm and immobiliser instead. Operates from a separate fob.
interesting... I've just been back to the car buyers report and she's not imported. I'm sure they changed it in the UK to...
Bonnet cable is a royal pain. You might need an assistant to watch the mechanism as you pull it. Take the slam panel off and as you have done check its seated. Is it sitting right inside the cabin? The adjustment is as you have found on the small nut which acts as a stop and hope the cable is not seized, if it isn’t then you can see the length of it adjust. Putting a new one in is not straight forward and people have packed the cable out with washers to get the tension. The bonnet should ‘pop’ and the spring catch on the bonnet itself has some adjustment too either to compress or not. Good luck
As above. Remove the slam panel so you can see what's going on; ensure both latches are moving freely; shorten the cable as far as possible by screwing in the adjuster on the left side (as you look into the engine bay from the front); pack out the opposite side with washers if needed. Good luck with the car - I went on a similar voyage with a Vela Blu V6 about 5 years ago. Looks like your car has been looked after, and you've lucked in if the cambelt was recently changed.
Thanks guys, I've taken the slam panel off, adjusted the nut on the cable and adjusted the length of the male part that attaches to the bonnet. No joy yet, so next I'll check inside the cabin and maybe install some washers. Thanks for the help. 😁
Such a stylish motor this
It is buddy, not to everyone's taste but definitely unique. Thank you for watching.
Great buy! Definitely looking forward to this project mate 👌🏾
You and me both! Thanks for watching.
Looking good and looking forward to the work you are going to do on this one, stay well.
Thanks, you too!... more to come soon, thanks for watching 😀
Looking forward to following your journey on this one all best Gra J
Thanks so much for watching Gra.... lots to do so should keep me going for a while.
Just sold my minter yesterday and the new owner loves the way it drives superb engine I will miss it after ten years ownership 😢
Couldn't agree more, there's just something about them most don't get. Sorry you did it. but just like me you might be back one day 😄 Thanks for watching.
Just subscribed to your channel , looking forward to watch the progress. Just putting the final touches to my Alfa, i'ts been an absolute money pit, going to try and sort out the dreaded air bag light staying on.I heard you talk in the video about this, you don't by any chance know how to do this. Thanks in advance.
Hi Thanks for the subscription. Yeah in think its easy to get into a money pit situation..... re the air bag light i was hoping to use my multiecuscan software but it's not connecting at the moment. I need to figure out if it's a connection hardware issue.
Superb work there, Craig, and very well presented too.. if I may say. 'Thinking' of getting another TF, my last, a 'tweaked' 160 was a joy. Your example guidance on jacking and blocking under the car was exemplary. I used to do the same thing (well, almost) on an A6 a couple of years ago - an absolute must. Well done and thanks.
Thanks buddy, I loved the MG but looking forward to my Alfa journey. I'll keep banging on about jacking and safety, being under a car can have serious consequences if it goes wrong..... it's so easy to get carried away to just get the job done but it's not worth it.
Can i please buy the air intake from you?
Hi, I already have a few people interested. I'll let you know if they say no. Cheers.
Of course nothing works.. it is Italian.
... and 25 years old, so double the trouble.
The postman has fetched you some parts 😂😂
yeah... it's brilliant isn't it to look on his face.
No mayo. Good to go 👍
@18:23 That red thing is to help put the wheel back on. Screw it into the wheel hub then slide the wheel on. I lost mine somehow.
Thanks for that, it dawned on me when I was editing the video.... I'm not sure why they go for bolts, studs would be easier.
@15:13 I recently disconnected the clock power feed on mine because I never had the time set right and it was draining the batter too much. Under the black electrical tape there is a blue connector. On your temp sensor the red warning light should come on for a few seconds before you start the car if if it does not the temperature sensor in the thermostat might be faulty. You can test the temperature warning light in your dash through MES diagnostic software.
I'll have a look at that.... have you had MES software working on a 916? I can't seem to get mine to connect.
@@Exhausted-autos Yes the software works well for me. I have the blue idiagnostics KKL obd2 cable that is connect directly for the Engine ECU and the three coloured adapters using green for airbag.
can you send me a picture or some links to what you have. it'd really help. my email is chardwicksmith@gmail.com
@@Exhausted-autos I did reply a few days ago but youtube deleted it.
Thanks mate, I attached my email above if you could do it again. I want to order the right cables so I can sort the airbag mainly... cheers
Someones gone to the effort of poly bushing the car, you should go and "return them to stock" aswell!! I bet you won't bother doing that though
You really shouldn't have bought this car. Someones taken the time to mod it should have just bought an unmolested one and someone who wanted these mods to keep it. Absolutely pointless everyting "going back to stock" Why the hell did you buy it - Engine mods look good, that air box will be a lot less restrictive than stock, the silicone pipe and engine brace look like high quality. Not to my taste - again why buy it, plenty of OEM versions of these on the market.
Looks like a good buy looking forward to seeing theid get some love
You and me both!... can't wait to get stuck in.
Nice ! Glad to see people ate looking to saves these like me . Iv got one im planning on keeping long term over on my channel 👍
Too nice not to save, and being galvanised we hopefully miss out on all the real bad rot!!! Do you have a link to you channel?
@@Exhausted-autos here it is @Justcars1001 . I'll get a walk around video very soon with its story before it goes way for winter 👍 I'm dealing with some other projects over winter
Oh as a side note , I do have another full gtv v6 bought for potentially spares 🤷🏻♂️
That's a good buy , spend 3 -5k , mint.....
she's had a good wash tonight, she is a nice one. I'm happy... 😀
I think it's an absolute bargain for under £3k. If all it had was a straight body, and decent interior, it would have been worth that amount. Good ones are starting to command good money now, I really like them and almost bought one 18 years ago, but ended up with an E36 328i instead, which was a fantastic car.
Yeah I'm happy.... nothing to serious to do so I can focus on making her prefect. Cheers.
@@Exhausted-autos Yes lovely looking car, I still like them maybe even more as they start to get 'classic' status.
