A20 Manual Transmission Rebuild/Upgrade
wowie, this is gonna help make my manual swap much easier. Gonna get it out and send it off for a rebuild. Thanks :)
I have a "how to" rebuild video as well 😁
@@aziangarage no way
Have you heard of speeduino ecu? If yes, what's your opinion on it?
I have heard of it, I have zero experience with it or the software, but it definitely seems like a decent budget ecu. I would say for a couple hundred more you can do better. Personally I would go with BoostedNW PnP Standalone (I have no experience with it or the software as well).
FYI those two tubes in the back that goes into the speed sensor housing are oil feed / drain lines that lubricate the gear driven speedo cable.
Thank u bro😭 thank god my hood didn’t fly up
Will this work in an auto carb 1986 LX ?
Yes but you will need to convert to fuel injection.
Does this work with automatic transmission?
Yes
I have an 88 lx, will this fit my car
Yes
Hi there I have a 1988 2.0 accord, which won't start from cold unless you tip the accelerator, and then cuts out once engine heats, was hoping you might be able to advise. Thank you
Goat
This was the winner
You're a legend dude. Thanks so much.
BINGO!.... You're the man! Thx
Also, what specific transmissions from b series motors will have the diff that will fit correctly? Were there transmissions on the B16A2 motors that would work?
90-91 cable B series small spline transmissions, commonly found in DA Integra's.
This is great reference! I’m in the process of trying to do a manual swap on my 86 Accord LXi. Do you know if the differentials are the same between the auto and manual and if one is stronger than the other?
I'm not 100% sure but I would lean more on that they are not the same.
I think ill make a yt video explaining as well .how the ebay ecu jumper harnesses are 99% problems in 88-91 civics and 90-91 integras ..them jumper harnesses are made at a huge production rate that they are pinning them wrong.my story is that cyp and ckp came flipped and connected wrong..and my most annoying problem that took me months to find was my car dieing at stops was that it was missing an alternator wire in the ecu jumper harness..my b swap has a mitsubishi version honda alternator that uses 4 wires.. so it was the signal wire to keep the car at idle ..now for the most part and people their hondas come with the nipodenso version alternator which is 3 wires..and its why ALSO alot of ebay engine tuck harness dont work either because they are all made for 3 wire alternator plug.. To say the least going from dpfi (dual point injection) in crx or ef to mpfi obd1 A bad ecu Or a ebay ecu jumper harness can be your worst enemy. Specially if you made your homemade mpfi,obd1,vtec engine harness
Will the intake work on a a18? Head. I have a 1986 Honda prelude
No, the intake ports are different.
Good morning. I just bought a 1986 prelude dual carburetors . Ibreally dont want to spend alot of money . I eant to do what you do . . I really love your help and guidance.
I hate to break it to you, but you are going to be spending a lot of money unfortunately no matter how you go about it.
What notor you recommend for a 2nd gen prelude. If you have a motor in mind, what about axles and wiring harness and ECU?
What is your goal? Nothing wrong with engines the car comes with.
89 sei 120k miles. Had it for 10k miles changed oil 3 times. Now has what I believe to be rod or wrist pin knock. Any advice?
It's always difficult for me to diagnose over the internet especially audibly. Was there anything you changed that made it happen suddenly or did it happen out nowhere? It's possible it could be the valves need adjusting (I have a video on that) or exhaust leak.
@@aziangarage I'm an avid enthusiast. Built a few race cars from bottom up. Sounds like rod knock 100%.. BUT rod bearings were fine. Worn, but not scored or spun. Put fresh ones in still the same thing. Also have adjusted valves. No change. Noise is loudest for about 3 seconds after startup.
@@aziangarage also noticed with stethoscope the noise is the loudest when I put it on the motor mount on the driver side of the engine. (Ruled out timing tensioner)
@@aziangarage also worth noting that head gasket did go and mixed oil with coolant but I repaired that promptly.. maybe just used engine swap and tear down this one on a stand. Idk. I appreciate your vids buddy.
The only thing I can think of based from my past experience is the water pump. I had a knocking/clicking sound that came from the same area you described and it was gone after I changed the pump.
Question for you, not sure if you have an answer, but my friends USDM LX with a Y7 was swapped to an imported D16Y4. They say the Y4 has no vtec, but the top little cylindrical piece is there. Its in the same spot as our EX's, do you know if that part is only used for a vtec solenoid? Or do non vtec Y4, Y7 ect still have it but for another reason? I didnt look undeneath it to see if it looked the same as our y8s, but it does have the little cylinder.
PS i rarely go full retard, usually about 40-60%. I am always going full ADHD, its a fucking bit- oh fuck why do i have a leftover bolt? 😂😂😂
That is strange. It's possible that I has a Vtec head on a non vtec block.
Im looking for a cleaner door panel as well.
Another solid video, Sir. Just straight to the point with everything! We specifically produce LEDs for auto. Can we invite you to do a review for our product? How can we connect with you?
youre a legend! tysm!
I habe a honda accord 89 fuel filter replace how ti replace.
I picked up some rims I love and realized after test fitting the zero offset really stuck out. I hate the look unless there’s a wide body kit or fender flares like you did. If you don’t mind letting me know offset and size of your rims to give me an idea. Also did you have to cut fenders at all. Thank you so much.
-15mm offset. And yes I did cut my fenders and rear quarter panels.
Hello love your videos and the dash light video really helped me a lot but I do have quick question by any chance do you know if tail lights, trim, panels, hood, bumpers, etc from a 89 accord lxi fit on a 88 accord lxi my 88 the 89 is literally a diamond mine and only reason why I want my 88 is because I already did a good amount of work on it lol
As long as it's for the same model (hatch, sedan, coupe, aerodeck) it should work. To my knowledge everything from fenders forward is all interchangeable no matter what model. The only difference would be 86-87 pre facelift bumpers but it will still bolt onto the 88-89 chassis and vice-versa.
The Suspension Techniques sway bars no longer available for years now. The part that does wear-out is the heim joint to rear trailing arm. I got new ones from KW Automotive (they sold the ST stuff and still do). After jumping through hoops, your part number lead to the heim joint part for the rear bar, The number is....112242 Spherical Bearing 3/8" 24 female with Teflon. I can't thank you enough for having the part number here. Once I gave them that number, then we finally got somewhere! Now I also wonder if I didn't find the part number for the sway bars at the 3Geez site. Thanks! Yes I did find it in the video! Part No. for sway bars kit #52130!
Thing as I don’t understand is why don’t people just get the air ducts for that model - piece that you bought and then get a saw cut them in half the tubes and then graph your tube onto the new tube so you need to measure from the part you cut and then you grab those two pieces. It’s actually making into one part part that’s custom
Thanks for the video
Thanks for the video
Thank you bro I’ve been trying to fix it 🙏🏽
I know squat about working on cars.. with that said, I have just bought an 88 Accord lx. What engines and transmissions can easily go in this car?
Having problem with code 13 baro sensor is there any solution to this without replacing the ecu under the seat
Nice vid man, I happen to work for an auto parts brand. Can I send you some stuff for you to do a review?
Nice vid bro, I happen to work for an auto parts brand. Can I send you some stuff over for you to review?
Hey bossman! I know this is outside of the topic of the video, but i've been wondering about the suspension on the 88 accord. I have a 1988 ca5 accord and im currently stuck trying to find coilovers for it. I live in finland so ordering actual ca5 coilovers are SUPER expensive. Do you know if other hondas coilovers will work on the ca5? Sorry for the wall of text and lack of grammar. Keep up the good content!
Thank you for checking out my channel and don't worry about the grammer, your English is better than my Finnish. I usually don't recommend any other suspension for the CA5 due to how unique the suspension is. What are attempting to do? Lower the car?
@@aziangarage Purely just lowering the car. its a rust bucket so i might aswell just stance it and have fun 😀
96-00 Civic rears will lower the back quite a bit, for the fronts I recommend using the Accord top hats and forks due the civic forks being taller which will raise the front, the civic shock body is slightly wider than the Accord so some modification may be needed to slip them in the Accord forks. I don't know how low the front will go with stock Civic springs/shocks. I know you said you are just having fun with the car so don't expect this setup to ride comfortably and or last long. I hope this helps!
@@aziangarage thank you so much 🙏
@@Harmaalap man you can use lowering springs
Thank you so much ❤
Anything to modernize these old platforms to make them stay on the roads ,affordability and ease of parts is a must ❤ the content, definitely gonna do this to my 3 gee accords now
those cats are so cute

I still have the Accord, ruclips.net/video/YwfF6vPlQ5Q/видео.htmlsi=HttXtQ52f4VN5QEk
Hell ya! I was worried about trying to get to work tomorrow😂
Wish I could keep my da unfortunately going out for sale in cali
Goos stuff. Been wanting to do this for years
It might be a little late for a comment but why not. I got my weber swap running before i found this video (this couldve saved me some time). Though now my engine gets very hot and thought about looping the coolant hoses to the thermostat housing. Would i recon this to work?
Did you plug the coolant lines that went to the OEM carb? That's what I did and never had any problems. You can loop them and see if it helps.
Great tips! Engine oil used to work okay in some manual transmissions, but it doesn't work well anymore because modern engine oils have gotten so slippery that they will keep the synchros from grabbing well, preventing smooth shifts. It won't damage anything in the short term and it's fine to use in an emergency if it's low and the proper fluid isn't available, but I wouldn't use it intentionally because it isn't really compatible anymore.
Man that’s a helluva lot easier without the timing belt cover in place. Any issues as time has gone on and not having that cover there?
I haven't had any issues but then again I don't daily drive the car anymore.
Thank you everything youve posted and for continuing to post content! I recently got an old accord from this same era, and your videos have helped me a ton. I definitely owe you a beer.
Dude would you possibly be able to give me some advice regarding switching parts from MK2 Honda preludes. It's been off the road for years and I'm trying to bring her back. I'd even pay. Thanks bro
Finally found something relevent.. thanks My prelude is fucked I need some serious advice on switching parts please Honda bros
You should have said something about the gasket sealer and how many other bolts you have to take off to get to the waterpump like the 3 part shield that go's over the timing belt.
