This was made possible by bmusic.co.uk who you should check out for tours and future gigs. I'm forever grateful. There are organ concerts weekly either at Symphony Hall or Town Hall. BMC and Leyland Rally report hasn't gone well...
Lovely, you have women in place ❤
Superb summary. I really enjoyed your trip away. Thank you to you and your friends.
Since my days of being a courier I have used the RAM Mounts system not cheap, but very versatile and durable, they also stay where you put them, previous mounts would die after a few months use, first RAM mount I bought is still going over 10 years later.
Is the Kenari becoming a Best Buy in fleet history terms?
It's up there for sure.
Noisy top end may well be impacting engine performance, the VVT solenoids rely on oil supply for correct operation, may be worth pulling them out and cleaning them?
Wow! Such a busy trip! Thank you for all the footage from that; its been brilliant!
Certainly was quite the gamble taking an unknown car on such a trip, but, it made it at least... :P
Meant to ask why you didn;'t take a ferry from Harwich or Hull direct to Holland - cost?
Yup. It was ridiculously expensive.
If you put it like that, it's been a busy few days.
Great little Vlog Ian, really enjoying the test drives from the Netherlands. How are you feeling now with taking some time off by not travelling as much now?
Still feeling pretty wiped. Getting better though. Very glad we had a few weeks at home.
A busy trip indeed but well worth it going by the Dutch videos shared so far. It goes to show that you don't have to pay the Earth for kit to get more than usable footage.
I know it was a very tiring and intense trip, but the quality of content from your Netherlands trip makes me feel you should do more of them. Hopefully they are financially beneficial for you too.
Thanks for this “busy road informations”. See you soon on the main channel »»» Martin 😊
Sounds like selling Giselle was a good call for her!
We were sad to see her go but she's definitely doing better now.
Absolutely brilliant video Ian ❤👍always great listening hub notes brilliant
AY UP MR HUBNUT
My uncle got an ev, but every morning, people would shout at him because he was late with the milk. He is back with a real car now. EVs are a joke. They will only work to make small ones that are only for people that commute in citys only. The tech is years from working.
That's simply not true. Plenty of people are very happily using EVs but they are not suitable for every scenario.
My mate has a 23 plate Mini Cooper Electric on mobility. It's horrendous. Less than 90 miles on a full charge. He's changing it for a Jeep Avenger Summit. As it does almost 400 miles on a charge.
The more stylish the EV, especially small ones, the less practical they seem to be.
Those Mirafiori Fiats used to be awesome when tuned up and mildly customised.
Wish words from Ms HubNut
Ian's 100% correct. If you make a mistake or get in the wrong lane. Don't worry. The first time, my lovely wife went around the Hangar Lane Gyratory system. She went around 4 times before she finally worked out the way to the A40. 😂
plus driving different cars helps Miss Hubnut your doing brill
Has to be the bargain of the year it's nice to see underrated non mainstream cars being used
Actually Westlake or XiHu is a famous lake in Hangzhou China so it has great significance there. The last set of tyres I put on my Falcon are Chinese and I have never had tyres with a better performance for average driving in wet or dry. I am most impressed with them.
We don't talk about the Chinese tyres I had on my AU... Awful!
@@hubnotes Do you remember the brand?
Fiat 131 Mirafiori in silver ! Looking forward to that, I loved my 1983 Mk3 SuperMirafiori 1400 TC from Germany…
Waffle on, my wafflers.
If Desmond was Yellow 🟡🟨💛🚕 would that make him a Canary 😮😅?
My father had a 4-door Mirafiori
Now, living out in the boonies, I will stick to my diesel 4x4s . Flooding, snow and gravel roads, no EV for me!. Nice to hear Miss HubNut is enjoying driving and enjoying Desmond. 😁
Your electric car rant dont work. :P Here in norway it is brilliant with electric cars. And even more so preferred in Oslo. But, here a electric car is cheaper than an petrol one because no tax. :)
That makes a difference and I imagine your charging infrastructure is better too.
@@hubnotes the amount of car owners that require to use public chargers/rapid chargers is very low. Here most people rent or own a house or apartment with parking if you have a car. A home charger is then normal to have if you go electric. Then you have a 7,2kw - 22 kw charger depending on the onboard charger on the car. For longer travels where you have to top up there is 24 100 charging stations with multiple stalls. That’s quite a few more than gas stations. Day to day commute you never charge on these unless you forgot to plug it in at home some time during the week.
Glad to see Miss Hudnut getting more comfortable driving. Next test a Bus, as this close to your heart, you can be the conductor.
From trying out a rental electric as an absolute novice, I believe the problems with range/charging are vastly exaggerated and people just wait for the cars to get cheaper (and are also too lazy to rethink their habits). I am certain that my next car is going to be electric, because I love the quietness, absence of vibration and stink, and the overall driveability of EVs. I live in a neighbourhood that’s all blocks of flats with kerbside parking, but the number of public chargers has increased dramatically in the past few years, and the driving I do on a regular basis would require me to use a charger every two weeks or so. But since my main motivation would still be the environmental benefits, and my petrol cars still have some service life left, I will proceed to squeeze out these two old (but not collectible) Citroëns, since making new cars also uses resources and making the most of that one-time investment sounds ok. And I don’t drive very much these days anyway, more’s the reason to use up my old cars. The 500e is a cute car, but it’s rather small for its price. I don’t believe turning it into a hybrid will solve its problem, and think it is rather a victim of industrial strategy and the nonconformity with new data security regulations, which would require an expensive makeover, which is dropped in favour of renewing the offer on the basis of one of the newer Stellantis platforms.
500e is definitely overrated and way too expensive! Cute and refined but no way I'd pay that much for one.
The magic of three cylinders. Have a nice trip wherever you go and see you soon ~~~ Martin 🚗💨🇫🇷
A great point about EV charging Ian, one that I have mentioned before on other channels, many of us do not have the benefit of being able to charge an EV at home living at lets say more affordable properties. If I could I would consider the change but being unable to charge at cheaper rates at certain times it is not affordable or practical at the moment. Many thanks for sharing.
Just to make things worse, Maserati is losing millions and there has been conjecture that it might be one of the brands Stellantis is thinking of getting rid of. EV's - bring back carbon neutral biodiesel....
Good waffle! Calling that car Desmond cracks me up, like the engine tone 👍
Never give up the random waffle!
2:48 Morris Minor 😀
Great video guys! Good to see you both out in Desmond. Incidentally, loved Ian's Citroen t-shirt, I wish that was available on the Hub Store.
Thanks for the update, good to see the Kenari going good. It would make a good replacement for Bella. Could it tow Bob the Camper. 😊👍
Nope. Bob is pretty hefty for a tiddler.
Rumour has it that people in Wales actually eventually allegedly do tan 😉
The infrastructure for EVs is nowhere near ready yet. I would bet money the the ban on sale of ICE vehicles in 2030cor 2032 will not happen. Unless the current Laboured government can pull something out of the bag. Last year I bought a flat. It has it's own parking space so fitting an EV charger may be relatively straightforward. But what about motorists who are not guaranteed parking spaces outside their homes? My previous dwelling had a "first come, first parked" arrangement.
The reality in the UK is that almost 60% of homes have off-road parking so have the easier potential to enjoy home charging. However, we (my partner and I) live in an 1870's terrace with no off-road parking but the local authority has allowed properly protected cables across the pavement for charging. Given that we need to charge about once a fortnight this is massively convenient for us. Over the next couple of years more and more local authorities will allow this. We were car free for over 20 years but personal circumstances pushed us back into car ownership. I spent quite some time researching before we chose a VW ID.3. it has a real world range of 240 to 250 miles at this time of year and around 180 miles in winter. I knew this from my research before we bought the car so I knew what we needed for our regular use. It works and the bonus is that most of the time our motoring costs less than 3 pence per mile for fuel and I only need to replace service parts every 2 to 3 years which amounts to a cabin air filter. Tyre wear is comparable or better than previous petrol cars we have owned back in the day and things like wiper blades wear on every car too. A quick hinges/catches/locks lube every year will keep them working smoothly. And please do not just believe that longer journeys are not possible. We recently did a 1,300 mile round trip to Orkney and had no journey delays and no squeaky bum moments with regard to range and charging. The mantra is to simply plug it in whilst you eat, drink, shop or sleep. Bjorn puts it as ABC, Always Be Charging. It makes sense to let the car top up to 70 or 80 percent whilst you are not using it so it's not an inconvenience. And, when are you going to test drive a lovely Anglia please? Prefer a lovely Anglia Super 123E with the 1200 engine but beggars can't be choosers.
I wish my block of flats’ underground car park had some charging infrastructure. The building management need to understand this is happening sooner or later and that they can make a wee skim off of the fees. As it is, the calculus is a bit frustrating as the local rapid chargers (which at least work unlike in some other regions) wear the battery down faster, and have more marginal cost savings versus petrol than home charging. If I could charge in the basement it’d be a no-brainer.
I completely agree with that, once you get your driver's license, drive miles to gain experience.
I have been using a Tesla as a hire car recently and find the superchargers exceptionally easy and quick to use. I will be looking for an electric car once my ice car reaches end of life.
It is not just range anxiety that is putting people off EVs. There is also huge depreciation and the possibility that your car might be scrap at about 8 years old if the battery fails. It is very rare but the possibility of it going up in flames is also scary. If you can home charge and such a fire happens it could destroy your home too.
I think the battery life concern is unwarranted. Within a few years of the Nissan Leaf going into production, aftermarket companies were offering battery refurbs. One or two duff cells can stop a battery functioning but don't mean you have to replace the whole pack.
Battery life is a non-issue. The chap that bought my first i3 (MY2016) says that the battery is still showing 90% of the original capacity. Where are you getting your ideas about fires from? They're rare enough to be a non-issue. Spontaneously-combusting BMW diesels are more common, fires that can also destroy homes. Strange, that. As for hydrogen power (which I'm sure you're building up to) - Driving around with a highly pressurised tank of an extremely volatile gas in the car? Not for me :) The depreciation is certainly a thing; it's ridiculous, especially on luxury marques, but market forces will deal with this.
Home charging should not be a problem even for those that don't have a drive or a garage with power. One just needs to install a swing boom to carry the cable over the footpath like old petrol pumps had. My County Council will mark out a bay outside one's house, for a fee, obviously someone has to pay for the 5 workers the job requires. 2 for traffic management, 2 to do the lines and a Foreman to supervise and make the tea. I live in a cul-de-sac!
As with anything in life, driving is something that is a continuous learning process, rules get updated (even if people ignore them!), roads are adjusted, layouts changed, new roads created and old removed, cars change over time, etc., you earn the right to drive when passing a test, but you never stop learning about the driving experience itself... (says a guy who's only ever been in a BX on tow without a license!!)
Absolutely brilliant video Ian miss hubnut ❤👍I love hearing the waffle brilliant
After sunny weather, rubber builds up on the road. The rain causes the road with rubber to be very slippy.
Very true. And still it's sunny, even in Wales!
@hubnotes Same up in Scotland. Especially with new tyres, just keep an eye on handling until the tyres scrub in. From a mechanic.
