    I came across the quite by accident and I've watched it three times now and it's inspired me to learn how to string rackets. Itired it once back 1989 or so using my mates drop-weight machine, I did an ok-ish job but I never tried to another one. In your opinion what the the best stringer one can buy for sub 1000?

    • @HerbBaird
      @HerbBaird 4 дня назад

      @capricornmagic63 to be honest, I am not sure. I am not up to date on current machine prices. I am not sure if you can even get an electric machine for that. If your budget is limited, just go for.as many features as you can get. Start with 6 point mounting, then fixed clamps, then upgrade the tensioner.

      @danielr.9516 can't really answer that for you. I think if I was going to pay the money to replace the clamps and rails, I would just sell the L and buy a full model. You probably have $4000 in the L going to cost $700-$800 for base amps and rails. For another $1200, you can have the full model.

      @danielr.9516 Everyone always asks about the base clamps, sorry. I have both old and new. I put the old clamps on the new machine. If your old clamps are still in good shape, I would stay with them. The new clamps are almost too light to release the base, and to me just feel flimsy. Might be worth buying a pair to put up while you can, but I will use the old ones until they fall apart.

      Your clamps and puller head will develop a build-up of string residue. This will cause the string to slip, and you will start to over tighten the clamps to compensate. This will start to damage the string. You will also find that the rails and base clamps will develop a residue, .making them difficult to move

    If you could answer a question for me. When I string multifilaments I am always above my set tension on my machine (gamma progression els ii). When I check on the apple app for racquet tension if I set it to 45 pounds for example it will come out 49 when I am finished. This doesn't happen when I string polys, it only happens when I string multis. I have done 3 different strings types on 4 different racquets to check my sanity multiple times and it keeps happening. Any thoughts on why? The polys on the app are a lot closer to what i set, usualy a couple pounds below, but being below my set tension makes a lot more sense to me than being above my set tension.

    • @HerbBaird
      @HerbBaird 3 месяца назад

      My advice is to quit using apps to check your tension. When you set to 45 and you are either over or under on the app, do you cut the string out and start over? Probably not. Calibrate the machine, string your racquets, and play. If they feel right, no problem. If not, adjust the next stringing.

    I have one of those stringers and until I purchased a Gamma ELS, it was my go to machine. Thank you for showing the correct arm down starting position. I would put a small wood support block under the arm to prevent it from slamming into the support screw if the arm was accidently dropped. I found that it was unneccessary to rotate the gripper to horizontal every time the string was inserted. Simply wrap the gripper once or twice to insure the jaw closes. For a home stringer, it's an excellent and accurate stringer although it is slower and fussier than a constant pull electronic machine.

    I really appreciate all of this advice, especially poaching the visiting team for some restringing, I also wanted to ask if you’d charge differently on a lockout machine 6mount vs a dropweight with a two mount, I upgraded to a crank but wanted to know if it was necessary to upgrade to electric tensioner to be taken seriously as a stringer and charge $15

    • @HerbBaird
      @HerbBaird 3 месяца назад

      This is just my opinion, but yes you need an electric machine. If you are stringing for any university teams you need to let them know that you are using a lockout machine. They may want to make adjustments based on the type of machine you are using. You do not charge differently based on the machine you use. Hey Herb I’ve been watching your videos for some time and just started stringing. I can never get all of the slack out while doing the knots and it makes the tension of the strings go down quite drastically. Do you have any times for this.

      There are several videos out there that address knots. Make sure you are pulling the knot along the string to pull out the slack, and the up and back, like an arc, to tighten and keep the slack out.
