Formatting SD Cards for Leica M11

This video is about SD cards specifically for use in the Leica M11. I was one of the first photographers to use this camera and was advised that the Lexar Professional cards were the standard. After the update in November 2023 [update 2.0.2] the standard changed and now it's best to use SanDisk cards. Since I already have several Sandisk cards I started to format them within the Leica M11 and r...
Leica Minilux Zoom Unboxing - 35mm film point and shoot

After a few weeks of looking for this one, my new (to me) Leica Minilux Zoom has arrived. Quick unboxing from my latest Leica camera. I am anxious to test this out compared to the Olympus stylus in the early start of my wedding season. Apparently this camera sold brand new for about $700 in the 1990s, that’s almost exactly what I paid for it this week on eBay. They are definitely a hot item rig...

late to the party. The MP 240 has a faster buffer stronger glass and a quieter shutter than the standard m240. I love mine and ffel no need to upgrade. The image quality has so much character. Thanks again!
I wonder how much recon you do of a new-to-you location. Thanks for sharing.
I love "What's in my bag" videos. Seeing what working photographers carry is somehow...I don't know, grounding? I'm amazed that you use a rangefinder for work. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and about that cookie...
This is a great video! Thank you so much here kislux for making my budget look more reasonable.
It's a clinically corrected lens. Hence, the no sun flare. You'd have to get the original Leica 50mm 1.2 from 1966 or Light lens lab 50mm 1.2 "1966" lens where its identical to the original to give you "character" and beautiful sun flare
Love fog, got it where I’m on my holidays now for 4 days straight.
Nothing like it!! Happy new year!
@@teribphotography happy new year to u2

Hey, Teri Fog and the beach are such a strange combo, but they can totally make for some cool shots :) I think cloudy days work so well on Tri-X. Back when I shot film more often, I was kind of obsessed with sharpness, so I always went for fine-grain stocks like T-Max and Delta. Over time, though, I started to appreciate how Tri-X and HP5 really bring out the mood of cloudy days. I don’t know if you feel the same. One thing I’d never noticed before is how Tri-X looks slightly less grainy on medium format. Thanks for sharing!
You’re absolutely right about Tri-X ! I think the Tmax i actually might like more at the moment but im fascinated by the subtle nuances between 35mm & 120mm. There’s something so fun about the fog, in any setting but i really love it by the ocean.
Next time go back to little CdM for gorgeous sunset shots. Highly recommended.
I will keep it in mind always! I think this was kind of low tide? Enjoyed it so much!
so nice my friend :)
Ah. Thank you so much for checking it out! Happy new year Jose!
@@teribphotography Happy new year :)
Foggy here too in UK, like you exited to get out with camera, just back from photo walk in forest with m10 , love the fog in forest ….atmospheric and beautiful quiet .Enjoyed your video and your photos , you have some sexy cameras! Love the film photos . Cheers
Hi Fred! Thanks so much for checking this out. I do love fog in the forest, maybe even more than by the ocean! Haha, i will agree on my cameras 🥰 they are so fun! Happy new year!
Beautiful images and a very relatable morning walk (mine almost always with a dog companion). I really enjoy the time you spend with us.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching and I agree, they are great walking companions :) I miss mine 🐶
Thank you for bringing back memories. I lived in CDM for several years and created so many images there. Little Corona holds a special place in my heart.
That’s so neat that you lived there! What a place!! I was so happy to discover it !! ❤️
Thanks for the nice walk on the beach this morning, just in time for my first coffee, it's 8:45 am here in Montreal today. It's also foggy here and just below freezing. Unfortunately no beach. I have some TRI-X in my M2 today so I'll venture out and take a few photos. Thanks for the motivation to get out there!
Ah. Thanks for sharing this, below freezing sounds a little chilly!! Did you have a nice little adventure with your M2? I recently did some research on that camera 🥰
@@teribphotography Yes, a nice little adventure walk along a waterfront nature trail on foggy morning with the same little Version 1 Summicron lens that you had on your MP. The M2 is quite liberating with no light meter, as long as the light isn't shifting around too much! Thanks for your nice reply and Happy New Year! 🥰
yah the peach is a bit weird.
La sakoj ene de kislux estas perfektaj kiel donacoj por amikoj. La prezo ne estas alta kaj la kvalito estas bona.
What format do you use on m11 ? 18, 36 or 60 MB ?
Thanks to this video, I learned something. I can't see the difference between the real thing and the fake one, so I just buy the fake one. But if you want to buy it in the future, it is better to invest in the real thing. But now I am still considering buying a fake one within the budget. I have been waiting for kislux for a long time.
Where did you get yours at
Tried it out from a friend! :)
Nice vid , thank you for sharing Teri. Does the SF40 flash works on the MP body?
Hi! Yes, the SF40 works for the MP too :) Thanks for watching!
Great video and a great camera, I have one and enjoy it.
Nice camera that really takes serious images! Fun you have it (:
I have the wide angle version of this camera. There’s is nothing finer than a medium format point and shoot camera. I was thinking of selling it as I am buying a Hasselblad 503 ( don’t know which version yet) in the New Year but I really understand I own a unique piece of equipment. I have just bought a Leica M6 as well so I’m in collection mode at the moment and not selling the iconic cameras I own. I love shooting with my Horseman 5X4 camera as well but while travelling the Fujifilm 645 series is king.
That sounds is absolutely fucking terrible. You damn near made me lose my hearing.
It’s ok, you can buy them 🍪😂
Hahahaha 🍪🫶🏻
You really surprised me, I have my M4-P and as it not having a light meter I often don't measure, but my M6 I really prefer to have a battery in. But it really helps to know how to work without.
Great Video, what I even struggle with is to go out with a digital and an analog camera, to switch and really get a consistency. I usually end up using the one ore the other but not both. So on weddings you must really have a good plan of when to switch.
Never found a good one with the focus patch bright. Mamiya 6, 6 MF or 7 better way to go
What flash were you using? It’s pretty much a studio camera, isn’t it? Would you print from negatives or digital files? Thanx for an entertaining review.
I was just using the tiny on-camera flash when I needed it - solid! Is it a studio camera? I feel like Fuji made it for every day people, given how easy the point and shoot is but I do not know for sure! The Darkroom prints from digital files I believe - what do you do? appreciate you :)
No it's not a studio camera, I would think this was designed for prosumer everyday, and wedding/event photographer as like a second camera. Studio cameras would be more the SLR style, like the Mamiya's, Bronica's, Hasselblad's, and the big Fuji GX680 Line
@@teribphotography in my medium format days i did all the film processing and printing myself. if i were still shooting 120, I’d print from outsourced processed, scanned negatives. Digital has made me really impatient.
I find it hard to stomach if you are pro you have to worry about using live view... Because of the battery life. Given the price and target group of photographers I'd expect Leica to cater for it. That is the benefit of owning a m240... Battery lige
Hi Paul! Totally. The LV feels essential to help me compose at a very fast pace for weddings so being limited there feels criminal for sure. Thanks for the push to get out my m240, i love that camera!
If you enjoy more of a point and shoot type of camera, but square format, try the Mamiya 6 . But if you truly want to go big and don't value things like saving your money just buy a Hasselblad 501c. Because you can get film backs and a digital back for it.
awesome advice brock! i can't say the point and shoot style is really my thing. I have similar feelings to my leica minilux zoom: they are fun, usually charming and get the job done quickly! I would love a hasselblad someday! Trying the Mamiya 7 currently :)
that shot at 7:28 is awesome
Velvia 50! I didn’t secure the roll when I sent it in and got some gnarly leaks ✨🫶🏻
It’s a fun camera with an excellent lens. Apart from expired film sold online (ebay), the only 220 film in production today is b&w Shanghai afaik. I have a few rolls of Portra in 220 in my freezer bought years ago waiting for a special occasion.
It is an excellent lens! I regret not covering that a little bit more and touching on really how very easy this camera is to use. You would think film companies would expand to 220 with the current film buzz and excitement in the industry. Good for you for a secret stash :) Ty for watching Mike!
@ I mostly shoot b&w, so I contacted Ilford a while ago to ask about the possibility of 220 film returning to production; they claim there still isn’t enough demand, which surprised me.
I forgot to mention; it’s also much faster and easier to load one roll of 220 onto a developing tank reel than 2 rolls of 120.
Cooookie! 👹
LOL 🍪🍪🍪
cheater !!!
Lol
I had one of the manual Fuji 645 camera's in the 90's/00's Fuji made great fixed lens camera in that era. I wish they would make a digital version.
A manual version of this would be interesting, this camera almost felt too easy to use! Digital & cut down on the bulk!
400D was supposed to come out in 220, but Cinestill, and they can jump off a bridge as far as I'm concerned. Other than that, I think only reflex and shanghai maybe sell it, and I wouldn't touch that crap. Happy Holidays! Grab some lomo 800 in 120. You will love it. It's kind of that nostalgic color plus of the 120 world. Other than that, Gold in 120 is stellar for the price, and if you want pure creamy dreamy, portra 160 is unrivaled if you have the light for it. Shoot it at 100. Any aero color respools are great for the holidays if you are just shooting green and red. Also only shoot at 100. They pop perfectly this time of year. Not so much skin tones.
I rather liked 400D as someone who’s shot Porta the last 20 years in both medium and large format.
ha! that made me laugh about cinestill - i got a really impressive set using cinestill on this camera, i had to go back and check the negatives a couple of times bc it looked like velvia! reflex is weird !!! you are sooo knowledge about all of these! i'm really new to lomo but tried some fun 92 earlier this fall ~ happiest holidays mark!!
i'm a big fan of 800t in 35mm - i think the 50d is lame overall great comparison here thedarkroom.com/cinestill-50d-800t-comparison/
The Reflx Lab 220 is Kodak Aerial film and is quite good. I shot it a few times. HOWEVER…it would not load properly in one of my GA645zi cameras. The film would just wind all into the take up spool. Bought another GA645zi and it does work in that one. So now I only use 220 in my Mamiya 6 or that one GA645zi.
It must be so much fun watching you in front of a couple "playing" (Sorry for that - I know, wedding photography is very hard work...) with this GA645zi - bzzz-frckkk-click-zzzzrrh thing! But that reminds me of my very first camera - a 6x9 box camera running 120 film. The first black & white prints (not enlarged, a 1:1 copy) are still glued into our family album .... I need to grab one for low - tech style (or should I take the convertible 6x4.5 + 6x6 foldable instead, that is resting in a drawer since years?) .... Questions
Hi Johannes ~ i use the word 'play' often when describing working with my couples, that's what it really is! lol such an accurate response to this camera!! that's awesome you still have some of the prints still, if they were glued you gave yourself very little chance for getting rid of them i suppose! i think i prefer the 6x6, the 6x9 sounds intriguing though!
Thanks for your insights on the 645 medium format, I don't think I'd like the noise, but the image quality is beautiful. Your videos are always cool and fun, have a Happy Holidays! (I did not know you baked the cookies) 🙂
Yeah, the noise was a little jarring. It actually kept me from using the zoom too much! No denying some of the images, I was most impressed with how it handled slide film! Velvia really hit the spot. Happy holidays to you! I did not get to baking yet (:
❤❤❤❤
Tysm!
What a nice camera, seems so fun to use! Sure, it’s noisy, but with so many people into 90s ASMR, maybe some could see it as a pro 😂 Medium format is uncharted territory for me. I feel really tempted to try it every now and then. The size of the cameras puts me off, but at the same time I can’t help wanting to see my pictures on those large negatives. I even bought a 120 reel years ago-still sealed in plastic.
It is such an easy one to use! You’re right, so many people live for the noises, I guess I’m just a little more particular in that area 😂 I feel ya on the uncharted territory, it’s been really exciting to discover and expand the reaches of film … you might get inspired if you’re not careful (:
hey, Chris here, long-time listener, first-time caller - just wanted to say really nice insights and interesting to see the medium format experiment. As a 35 shooter I'm learning a lot and getting more and more tempted by the format. Also love the positivity of your tone in general, which is one of the reasons I wanted to drop a line. Mega-gloomy here in London, so not a lot of light to go out shooting ahead of the holidays but oh well. Wishing you and everyone here a lovely Christmas and keep it up.
Hi Chris! Gosh, guest comment and such an appreciated one! I feel like we’re very much in the same boat, I am fairly comfortable with 35mm at this point and it’s definitely all new territory here with mf. I’ve already made plenty of mistakes but then I think to some of the mistakes I also made when learning 35mm. A welcomed little learning curve, excited to keep going. Keep bright in the gloom ✨I’m so happy you messaged (:
tysm!
You owe me a cookie 🍪😉
Gosh darn it!! So many deliveries!!! Tysm ✨
Cool photos - some of them were terrific. But CineStill ruined some of them. It's an awful emulsion. Even Lomo 800 is a better choice! (I think that ambient sound is better than music. Unless it's jazz, then it's even. But that's just my opinion.)
oh no! i'm a big fan of cinestill 800t, it has surprised me in medium format this fall! i did have some skin tone issues that turned me off a little - it's a use with caution one. halfway through a lomo 800 currently, thanks for the recommendation and for the music tip - i do love this song, it's a delicate choice but i will consider some jazz in the future :)
I like seeing what people have in their bags. Sometimes I get ideas, but often I just like to see. The one thing I have in my bag that's unusual is CF cards. Hey, you never know when someone forgets to bring their CF cards to an event. Right? If I may think aloud... maybe if you sold your Canon kit, you could replace it with an other digital M body and put on a 28. (You could put on a 21 and crop it, as an alternative). Or, if you must have a 28-70/2, replace it with the Sony version, which is relatively new. The Sony lens is lighter and smaller. As for the cookie, I will not avail myself of this free gift. Not because I don't want it, but because postage will cost too much. ;-)
another comment from you! good call on the cf cards, most folks i know, including me, are sd cards all day. love the thoughts and appreciate them! i think i struggle fully ditching canon since i have all the cool toys with it like my tiltshift and the ability to freelens. you're a sony fan? i haven't given them a second glance in years. tough decisions! i am going to challenge myself to use more m lens for sure next year - thanks for saving me the cookie postage and for checking this out :)
I'd love to own an MP or maybe an M-A. They're not expensive. The film, however...
film can be pricey! have to pick those shots carefully sometimes :)
cookie time
Omg so overwhelmed with the cookie demands 😂🍪 tysm!
Interesting how to actually market oneself as a 2nd shooter. I think most wedding photographers already have their #1 pick for 2nd shooter, as well as #2 and #3. Do you have a 2nd shooting portfolio for other photographers? How to approach? Thanks!
I do not have a 2nd shooter portfolio but truthfully, I've only second shot one time. When I do look at potential 2nd shooters I always poke around on a website and ask to see a couple of full galleries. I've written notes for this and have this video in the works very soon! Ty! :)
I just picked up a Visoflex for my Leica M10....its a game changer! It makes shooting wide open so much easier and faster. How do you keep your photographer's eye sharp on the off season or get ready for the upcoming season ? Do you work on personal photo projects or do any other genre of photography like street or landscape? I'll pass on the cookie but thank you for another insightful video
i've heard wonderful things about the visoflex - i need to do a some serious dive and check it out properly. I love shooting in my off season!! I'm really looking forward to shooting in the city, hopefully snow if I get lucky in the Chicago area :) lots of film work and experimentation, i also like stepping away when I can, helps reset a bit if that makes sense. next time on cookies!
I need a cookie 😅 On a serious note, you could switch from Canon to a Leica SL3 with Sigma 28-45mm f1.8 and a Sigma 85mm 1.4, both amazing lenses, much more compact and lightweight. On top of that, you resolve the difference in post from using two different sistems. If you have the buget, you can also go for some of the summicron SL primes, which are the best lenses ever created (no joke). On SL3 you can also use a Samyang 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens, which for me replaces a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm. In it's own right this lens is pretty good when it comes to sharpness and focus speed. If you use the 28-45 sigma and you need that push towards 70mm, you can always go into crop mode and still be left with like 26 mpx. Just my 2 cents. And on top of that you have a 50mm summilux SL 1.4 which from my point of view, almost didn't leave my camera since I got it. I use it for everything from events to portraits. It's big, it's bulky, slower focus, but the image quality on that thing is amazing. Imagine a very sharp lens, with a character that makes you think of film at higher ISOs.
