- A look into images over the years using the Leica m240 for wedding photography.
The Leica M system had intrigued me early in my career, I loved the look and design and thought it could be quite interesting to see what I could do in my work photographing weddings. Year two I made the leap, an incredible investment of a secondhand m240 and summicron 35mm lens.
After a few months I upgraded to the 50mm summilux, which is still my favorite lens to use today.
This video takes a look at some of the very first weddings with it to other treasured moments and discoveries along the way.
I am a fully self-taught photographer and have learned much of my craft guided by an artistry in storytelling and a fair amount of trial and error.
Thanks for taking a peek here! Наука
I had saved to buy the latest camera in 2023, ended up buying a used M240. My son inquired about my mental health. My wife stopped talking to me for a week. My friends told me to visit a guru in India. My brain screamed, "I told you so!" But my heart smiled.
What a series of events! :) Go in the direction that makes the heart happy 💕
Love seeing and hearing your excitement as you shared your work and experience while shooting those weddings! Love your energy.
Ahh thanks Cesar! I do get pretty stoked about it all. It was fun to look back on some really old ones !! You’re so nice to take the time 🥰

Stunning wedding portraits!! Really stellar work.
Appreciate you so much! Was fun to look back on this gem of a camera!
Very Inspiring & tons of Stunning Photos indeed, Thanks Tery ! I just bought a 2nd hand M240 and got it today, So happy to know more about its mighty power with your great presentation....Keep Up your excellent Work...Cheeers from UK !
ah, excellent to hear it - hope you are still enjoying and creating magic. I see mine on the shelf and it makes me smile all the time. Thank you so much for tuning in!
Great job. Well done. Your example is the proof of what can be done with a manual lens and a almost 10 years old camera. Is such a joy. Congrats
Yes! I’m certainly happy to be using my m11 now, i was well overdue for an upgrade, but it is fun to look back on what I was able to create with such a dated tool! 🔴 but a good one ;)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Leica M240!
The camera is amazing and your work absolutely beautiful!
Oh, I so greatly appreciate you! sorry I took so long to respond here! Means so much Jesus!
The Leica seems to be a great camera, however I’m sure the eye behind it is what made those photos just plain fantastic, thank you for sharing
You make an excellent point. I think the camera really helped propel any given artistic ability I already had. Appreciate you watching!

I’m impressed that you can capture those lifetime moments using manual focus. Amazing skills and results.
I’ve gotten pretty good over the years. I do often over shoot just to make sure I’ve really gotten all the coverage I need in sharp focus. Thanks for the comment!
I shoot all the time with my Type 246 Monochrome - the color blind sister to the Type 240. I love it, one of my favorites. Great shots in your video. You captured the emotions of weddings well.
Color blind sister, love that. The m240 was such a great intro for me into Leica. Thanks so very much for taking the time to watch and comment!
Hi teri, thank you for sharing, love how to see the unedited dng too.. love the way how you reportage using the M, very inspiring
It’s always fun to see the raw and then the edit. It can be deceiving sometimes! I’d be lost without my m systems 😅😂🔴
Super! Super! Wonderful sharing about the M 240
I enjoy mine too
it's such a gem! glad you enjoy yours :)
These are all superb! I admire you for pulling off weddings with the M.
Thank you so much! (: I wouldn’t have it any other way!
The M240 and M-P240 are great cameras, but never forget the lenses: they are essential for photography. The LUX50 is my favourite lens too. Keep on rolling!
You’re so right. The cameras are amazing but it’s the lens that really drives it home. Loving the journey to far. Thanks for watching Paul!
I saw this video right when it first launched. You actually really showed me that you can just get an M and use it, no matter what you do. I felt unsure... but seeing a wedding photographer pull it off? Surely my piddly street meandering would be just fine. A year later, and I've owned my M240 for about a month now. Shooting every single day and I can't imagine ever going back to other bodies. It's just so solid and mechanical- a machine, just as useful for breaking a window in an emergency as it is for shooting photos ha. So just thank you for the amazing images but also the inadvertent encouragement lurking between the lines.
I couldn't be more happy to read this. I have been doing a backlog of comments and this was my last one and the very best one from the last few months. The fact that some of my silly words encouraged you to branch out and try something different for your own artistry is incredible. I hope you keep going, so thrilled for you
Really lovely video. Thanks for posting
Thanks a lot for taking the time to watch :)
Truly lovely images. Some of those shots are really hard to get, even with good autofocus, so huge props for capturing them in manual. Beautiful work-they must have been over the moon.
oh gosh, this is so kind and encouraging. really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I think the camera really helped find my path as a photographer and in my wedding work. it's been such a nice journey - hope you are well!
@@teribphotography I shot weddings for 7 years and used Canon 5Ds. Now owning (and loving) a pair of Leicas, I cannot imagine not having autofocus. I CAN see how attaining the skills would slow things down and provide your signature beautiful images. So, I really understand what you are doing and applaud it. Love your videos and enjoy hearing your thoughts. Have a great week!
The bokeh and flaring of the shot at 6:10 *really* reminds me of my Helios 44M-4. Fun retrospective!
What a cool looking lens! (I had to go look it up!) love that blurry, creamy look so much. Thanks for checking this out :)
Wow! Such mad skill shooting manual, especially with your subjects moving. Wonderful photos. I can definitely learn from someone like you. I enjoy shooting with my 240. Feel free to give some pro tips. 😊 Thank you for sharing.
Hi Jeremy! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Yes, it is tricky and I try to be really smart when I pick moments on the wedding day to shoot (even though it’s about 70% of the day!). I do lots of anticipating and can take more risks because the higher model ms have faster sensors. Be sure to use your m240 for video! I definitely miss that on the m11
great moments caught! 🙂
was such a wonderful camera for me!
Beautiful photos
Fun revisit!
As a Leica street shooter, a focusing trick I use to capture subjects moving towards me is to put the focus tab in infinity and pull focus as the subject moves towards you.
Great little trick! I don’t do too much street shooting but love it when I get in the mood
Liked! I started with an M10, in 2018, but, I really enjoyed this presentation, especially the parts about the Summilux-M 50mm lens flare, which encourages me to try more things, with the sun, using my Summilux-M 50mm ASPH. I have already noticed how the Summilux can have interesting flare, when the sun is just outside the frame, to the right or left side, but have not, that I recall, tried shooting with the sun high in the center background, as with the couple at 5:39. You have also provided me with added incentive to try the Summilux-M 24mm, with its rainbow flare effect, perhaps, someday…
Thanks!
🙂
Yes! Someone encouraged me years ago to go with summilux and never look back. The unique things you can unlock with the sun are truly unmatched imo. I have a voigtlander 70mm and it’s just okay. Have to keep saving to add another summi soon, ideally my long lost 24mm!!
Thanks for watching and all this great feedback 💕
Your beautiful smile goes so well with that dress❤
Ahh thanks very kind. Thank you! 💕
People just don't realise how good this camera is. A tool so focused on still photography.
It’s a gem through and through! It can be our secret :)
I agree.@@teribphotography
very nice..me wanna buy this definitely
its great!
Excellent video and shots! Like subscribed and rang the bell. Regards from Australia.
So cool of you all the way over is Aussieland! Thank you soooooo much!! ✨
Some extra wonderful images here. My M-P (Typ 240) always gets the exposure wrong in Auto if there’s the slightest bit of sky in the photo, and its AWB is really terrible, lol, but it’s my favorite digital camera!
Shooting a wedding on a Leica-takes skill!
Ahh that’s a bummer on the terrible AwB 🙃 The M240 had it’s own issues of a slowish sensor and not doing great in lowlight. When it was good though, it was golden. Weddings on leica are not for the faint of heart 😅 thanks so much for watching!
and courage hoping the card will last ;-)
Love the sparkler image! How did you meter the scene? I've always wondered how to meter a scene like this when time is of the essence.
Haha, I take a guess in the moment, based on a test shot of the light or my closest judgement. Sparkler send offs are tricky, I actually prefer them without flash but you never know how much light you’re going to get from the elements. And there’s no real way to practice 😅😂
Lovely captures Teri. Do you use Zone focusing/ Hyper Focal distance focusing? Also did you use that here for couple that were moving? Just curious.
when I was using the m240 I did not use the zone focusing, perhaps foolishly but I never liked the way it worked when I was actually working with couples, if that makes sense. Took away from the experience of shooting. I learned instead to really get my rangefinder focusing as precise as I could - when couples are moving I often overshoot to get a mix of soft focus and usually the one money shot that's perfectly focused :)
I have the M-P (Typ 240) and sbsolutely love it too. The rear screen is not the best but I'm always pleasently suprised went I load the files into a computer. :)
I never got to play with that one but know it’s similar. The images were always a treat on the computer! Rarely disappointed (:
Teri, thank you for your experience in using the Leica M240, I have the MP-240 which is basically the same camera. wish you all the very best in your photography. Cheers. 👍❤
Ahh nice, the video is kind of special with this camera. Happy to be camera twins! 🔴✨
I would love to see video with the 240. I’ve only taken one or two clips because I keep forgetting it shoots video!
LEICA M 240 AND M10D are the most sofisticated M camera bodies ever made!
they really did a great job, the m10d I never got to try but I believe you! incredible systems
beautiful photo! What is the focal length of the Summilux you are using? 50 mm?
Yes, correct 50mm 1.4
Hi Teri , I've been experimenting with the 240M since around Christmas last year and I've almost stopped using the other info graphics systems I have since shooting with it. Congratulations you are very good.
Fun to hear Massimo! The m240 is a wonderful system, served me well for many years. Depends on the lens :) thanks for the time words!!
@@teribphotography Thanks Teri for the reply…..my current lenses are the Summicron 35mm and 50mm and then Elmarit 90mm. Ciao and good light 🙏

to get the sun flares did you omit the lens hood?
Hi. Is your m11 much faster in live view mode photo after photo?
I would say overall the m11 is faster at everything - I just had nothing to compare it to when I was only using the m240
you used f2 and it must be many moments that you missed the focus, how did you deal with it?
I actually use 1.4 most of the time, I’ve learned to adapt and adjust. If I want a super sharp focus I do it but sometimes I do want a soft focus look. For me, it’s more about the emotion. Thanks for taking the time!
08m30 = great shot
appreciate you!
Hello! Would you still recommend this camera today? And don’t think $2500 is about right, or is that on the high side? Thank you!
We end up in the threads of all the same videos, it seems ha. That's what I paid for my M240 last month. For me, since it's precisely what I want, I feel the price is fine. Of course others would think it's insane 🫠
Oh, I'd say for sure $2500 would be a good price, especially if it is in nice condition [not like mine!] - the good news is, so many Leica users treat their gear so tenderly. I want to get my m240 out to play with some video content - I actually miss using it!
we agree!! I think it's a great price, hopefully you've had some good action on yours!
Exellent You work..Beautiful.. Miss.
Thanks
Teri, if things don’t work out as a pro wedding photographer ( I’m sure they will) you could always work as a lifestyle model. Jus sayin👍
Very kind indeed! I’m 8 years in, doing just fine :)
I have a pair of these that I use daily and just love them.. The brassing on my black one is so sexy.... Thanks
They really are solid! What lens do you like the best?
@@teribphotography My most used is the CV 35/1.4 Nokton MC II

Great
Yes, indeed, ... the damn COVID stopped me to get the LEICA M10D, ... I was trapped in isolation so I was short of information that the LEICA Inc. had released the new M10D, at the time. The MP 240 was in my hands from the beginning of its production. Though, I wish that I have BOTH in my collection, ... well that is a life.
but you're forgetting the good news is: there is still time! I have a constant wish list, enjoying each milestone as it arrives - staying hopeful - hope you are too :)
