Brillant offerings and the price point is indeed enticing, epic review !
Why does it have 3 RAM slots?
The 3rd one is for dimm.2
I'm curious about how the USB4 display output is supported, are there settings in the UEFI to use this with a dedicated graphics card?
ASUS continues to dominate the motherboard market and the new overclocking world records set using this board is a testament to that. Well done ASUS for continuely pushing the boundaries!
Yeah at every launch of a platform Asus goes all out to prove the capabilites of their boards and they knock it out the park all the time.
This is such a sexy board! The silver really makes it come alive.
Definitely suitable for a badass gaming rig as well. At this point Apex is a very completw board suitable for extreme Overclocking and for gaming setup just as much

I love the board. But I have a question. The program GCC to upgrade the drivers and rgb makes my system not want to restart and just cause crashes. I don't load it up anymore at all but why does it give me issues or an I the only one?
I've not had crashes per say but have had some odd behavior, RGB effects not setting in sync with other components etc. Generally not the greatest software, so unsurprised by your challenges. That being said, do ping tech support, cause the more of us report the issues officially the more likely and the sooner the software will be fixed/updated.
@@TheOverclockerMagazine thank you
What materials are used for the chassis? Thanks for the video
The value for money is near unbeatable. The design is fabolous too. However I don't think Artic will rest on their laurels. The successor will likely be transformative.
Most definitely. Pretty much sets the standard for now across many disciplines. Really like the two cable solution and the epic performance
@@TheOverclockerMagazine I found mine on ebay for $30. That's cheaper than a Five Guys meal for three people. hahaha
If I put my RTX 3080 in the first GPU slot (pci-e 5.0 X16 lane) and put my M.2 NVMe gen 4 SSD in the first M.2 (over the GPU slot) ,do I have a lane sharing with that both together (from x16 -> x8 & x4)?
No it will not share lanes. You'll get a full x16 and full x4
@@TheOverclockerMagazine one more question. Can I use my Pci-E 3.0 M.2 NVMe SSD on this board. I'm not really sure, that this board only supports 4.0 and 5.0.

Oh no that doesn't sound good. At the very least 7800 should be possible. In fact you should not need 1.45V for 7200. Are you on the latest BIOS?
Yes using the latest bios. Actually I tried to run TM5 and it was not stable :( Going to try tweak some cpu voltages maybe? Since I’m UVing the ring voltage, and cpu core voltage but I don’t think those change something. What do you think?
Very informative, thank you!
I was just researching this thing and I found a local boy reviewing it! Lekker!
Do you think I should get the WootBook Ultra Y16 Intel Core i9-14900HX 5.80GHz Boost 24-Core 16" WQXGA (2560x1600) 240Hz NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 8GB GDDR6 Black Laptop. With 32gb ram and 1tb of SSD for R35 000 or is there anything else I should get
Do you need the notebook right now? As in are you able to wait at least until Jan? Reason being when RTX5000 series announces, it should bring the price down further on these models or allow you to buy a better spec for the same spend. Keep in mind as well, Core Ultra series is significantly more power efficient (better life), has an NPU and better IGP. So in short, the spec you want is fantastic and should last you years. If you can wait, do so, but if not you'll be more than happy with that spec and notebook.
Alright, thx for the advise
I can't wait for mine to ship, and CUDIMM to release. I'm wanting Gear 2, 9600MT+ (Would love 10000 + 6GHZ AC) I'm really excited to tinker this generation. Godspeed to ya!
I think you'll have plenty of fun with this platform. The sheer number of tuning options from the various sub systems is rather fascinating. As for what memory speeds will be possible, no doubt at some point Gear 2 9600 will be XMP, but right now it needs some hand tuning it seems. Gear 2 9200 seems to be doable for most with the right kit and CPU IMC

Nice video, i would like to purchase this Asus Rog Strix X870-F Gaming WiFi Motherboard in UAE, Any affordable sellers in GCC for Gamers?
I use A F III 420 mm , wow what a brilliant AIO
Im surprised at just how competent this cooler is. I never would have expected this. Absolutely great this one.
I got a question: So I don't plan on doing any major OC'ing... how dumb would it be, to purchase the Z890 ROG Maximus Extreme? I really wanted the Formula or Apex... but the Apex is white and I'm going with an all black build with minimal RGB and ASUS tells me they have no current plans for releasing the Formula (though it was one of the registered boards listed). I'm the type of person that always feels like, if ya don't get the top of the line... you gonna regret it. And I feel like if I go with the Z890 Hero... that I'll be missing out on features, stability and performance. I'm going with the Ultra 9 285k, 48GB of DDR5 Dominator Titanium 7600 @ CL36 and eventually a 5090 when they release this Jan. Please help me decide.
Hero is more than good enough. It's excellent actually with the same high speed memory support as extreme and even XOC capabilities. That rig you're wanting to build should be very efficient and powerful enough to last years
It's a great board but hte lack of optical out is a major NO for me.
Yeah of that's critical for you, board is simply not an option.
Are there notable differences with Vengeance 32GB 6000 CL30?
Nope. Outside of random I variances, they should be the same
hmmm... no vrm picture... disappointing...
Sorry my dude. I didn't know it was that important to you. I'll consider adding back the footage going forward. 🍺
does either the DP or the HDMI port output sound?
They both do
I have this board, memory overclocking is great... I have this motherboard and it is a memory overclock MONSTER! I'm using Patriot Viper Xtreme 5 RGB DDR5 RAM 32GB (2X16GB) 7600MTs CL36 with a 12600k which does not have as good a controller as a 13th/14th gen cpu however it will run 7600 @ CL40, Gear 2 on this 12600K. I did not try any higher because I never thought I would get this far on a 12600K. I wanted tighter timings so i lowered it to 7200 CL36 gear 2, 1T and it's doing 59.2 Ns and 110.5 memory read
That's awesome. What IC is on the memory? CL38 possible?
@@TheOverclockerMagazine I have no idea what IC on this board. I have not tried 38 @ 7600 because I will be changing to 14th gen real soon and will have to go through all of this again. I do know that 36 @ 7200 is not stable, it will pass most test but will cause my game to crash back to the desktop, it never blue screens with this setting... This board is awesome but some of the settings in the bios I have never seen before so I have to spend some time with it.
Nice video! My last PC build was back in 2012, using a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H which is still going strong (just saw that same board refurbished at NewEgg for $155! Kept its value, and it's been a great MB.) Now it's time for more horsepower to play modern games, so I'm getting this MB & an i7-12700KF cpu to start with. That's a huge upgrade from my i7-3770 that I'm used to, and coupled with some Samsung M.2 NVME I'm sure it'll be a scorcher. Yes, I'm getting new RAM, probably 64GB of DDR5 @ 6000 to start with. Sure looking forward to starting the new build!
That's going to be such a badass upgrade for you. The jump in performance is going to be astronomical and not just in games but general usability. Safe to say the machine should be good for gaming for years on end. Excited for you 🍺🔥
@@TheOverclockerMagazine Thanks for the reply, and yes I'll bet I'll be amazed. Just got the new case in the mail (Antec) and expect the MB, CPU & SSD today. The rest is coming soon, and I can't wait!
@@deniswauchope3788 Hopefully up and running now.
Do I really care about whether it's a 6 layer board? Yes yes I do absolutely I want 8 layer
Fair enough. I for one want the benefits of what 8-layer PCBs had over their 6-layer counterparts which was mostly memory OC. If the 6-layer boards can achieve the same via other means, then I place no importance on the numbers of layers.

Yeah same, it is the one thing I wisj they didn't do design wise on this board. It takes away from the general aesthetic.

@@TheOverclockerMagazine the x870e-e goes for $499. I would hope the -f goes for less. Shouldn’t even be $399
Looks like they use a shell similar in design to the HP Pavilion Gaming series. I wonder if it’s all metal too.
I can't be sure but I can find out. If it is indeed the same she'll then that should be some relief for those weary of the brand
@@TheOverclockerMagazine Great please do so. They really do look similar with that sick design, especially the one with green keys. The hinge being different is relief enough for me as I had to retire my Pavilion last week because it couldn't close anymore from the damage caused by an expanding battery. So had to leave it open and use it as a desktop.
I've been running this board for coming up on 2 years. I've never bothered with any OC, because in my build, it just hasn't been necessary at all. I was reluctant at first, because in the past I've dealt with Asus customer service, and boycotted them for almost 15 years because it was so terrible. This board has been great... but, my Ryujin II AIO broke within a year. It's discontinued. It took well over 2 months of fighting Asus customer service to get them to honor the warranty... so, back to the boycott.
Ouch sorry to hear that about the AIO. I have generally been more than happy with Asus boards, GPUs etc, but their AIOs, in as good as they seem just cost way too much. To then read about your experience with it in just two years, validates my hypothesis that they are overpriced for no reason. Hopefully you have a better AIO now
BTW.. I just bought into this platform a month ago. I got the following: AMD Threadripper 7980x Asrock TRX50 WS GSkill F5-6400R3239G16GQ4-ZR5K MSI 1300w Ai Meg Gigabyte RTX4090 OC I have fully tested everything in Windows and Linux, and it is great. I have NOT enabled EXPO permanently yet, only did it for testing and benchmarks. What are your thoughts on enabling EXPO? It is a professional machine. I had awful trouble getting it running with the Gigabyte TRX50 Aero D.. that I had to return it because it would not run EXPO properly and cause all kinds of issues. The Asrock seems like a better board.
What an incredible machine. And yes the ASrock is a much much better motherboard. Gigabyte has done a respin on the Aero D and effectively made that one EOL. As for Expo it actually does make a difference so please enable if possible. No need to mess around with timings etc. What I will say is that you should keep an eye on the SOC voltage, when left at auto it's needlessly high. 1.2V even 1.175V is enough.
@@TheOverclockerMagazine Yeah.. my SOC voltage is at 1.2v in auto. Also as a side note, the GSkill memory doesn't have heat-spreaders, so I attached a rad fan that blows air over that whole area. The GPU acts as a shelf.. hahaha. My temps under load are incredible about 55c on memory and 57c on the CPU during full renders.
@@Todd_Manus Great stuff. I'd say that's about all you need to do and that rig should be solid for eons (in PC terms). How is your idle power consumption (HWInfo)? I eventually turned off SMT because I was drawing about 120W on idle on the desktop
@@TheOverclockerMagazine I am pulling 146w according to HWinfo.. turning off SMT is a no go for me, the renderer I use take advantage of the threads.
Did you run your default 7980x benchmarks using the default ddr5 profile (4800MT/s-JEDEC) or (6400MT/s-EXPO). I know you ran the PBO at 6400, but wasn't sure about the regular non-overclocked benchmarks. Thanks.
The normal ones I ran at 4800 or 5600 but more than likely 4800.
Brutha man i just got this, how did you setup the fan curve/speed/rpm control?
I can't remember, but probably used the AIO software at the time.
I’m purchasing this board. What memory did you use? I’d like to get the same kit.
Used a bunch of different memory with it but easily compatible kits are the XPG Lancer RGB and XPG Lancer Blade RGB Memory kits. I prefer the regular Lancer kits than the blades. Both are available in white. Look for DDR5 6000 or 6400 of either one. Just make sure it's CL32 or CL30. Do Not get the CL40 versions
@@TheOverclockerMagazine Hi! Can you write the RAM that you used to overclock to 8000 with system stability on this mobo? thank you
@@p3tran I tried variuos M-die kits but they all should be able to do 8000 with no issue especially now with AGESA 1.2.0.2 It should be just setting 8000, 1.45V max and CL40-52-52-128
How can i run my 7800X3D at max clock? I have the same board, Mine only runs at 4800mhz.
Hmm it should be running 5GHz max clock, I think that is perhaps a Current or Power draw limit. You can also try PBO and set to enabled, then set all limits to disabled or 500 (forgot exact value you can input if any at all)

I've used now about 9 different corsair cases since 2013, and I'm not sure if I'd say any of them were bad, actually many were great even if the pricing was high. Then again could be a brand loyalty bias on my side as I've generally liked the vast majority of their tech

Yeah I'm not sure what corsair proposes as a solution for this officially. The good thing is that anyone whose ever built a PC before likely has plenty of 'extra' screws that can be used instead.
@@TheOverclockerMagazine Did you have the same issue with mounting the cooler? I bought the Corsair h150i ICue link LCD and I believe it comes with the same screws as the Titan.
Hi brother hope you are fine and good. Shall I go with adata legend 960 or crucial t500 1tb? which is better? adata legend 960 is cheaper in my country compared to crucial t500. Adata is reliable and good? I heard adata xpg gammix s70 blade ssd is faulty and is getting bricked due to using some cheap ig5236 controller. legend 960 is good right? how is your ssd so far any issues? Thanks in advance :)
Hey dude. All good this side. Hmm haven't had issues with the 960 whatsoever, I can't speak to the S70 blade. I did have one DOA ages ago and it was replaced with another line. 960 really is good, but between that and the crucial take the one with the longer warranty and MTBF/TBW
