Do hybrids of same loft 8:18 launch lower because the intended attack angle is generally more negative than a Fairway wood?

Your monitor probably shows descent angles, which were not put up. The 7 wood will clearly have a steeper descent angle, and the pros like Dustin Johnson and Fitzpatrick who use both 7 woods and 9 woods want that giant 8 iron type of trajectory and very steep descent angle so the ball will stop on a hole where they have to clear water or bunkers and land on a small, firm green. Obviously the high trajectory is more vulnerable to the wind, so if they are playing a links course with high winds, the pros will put a driving or 2 iron in the bag and hit low, running shots. So as you say, a lot depends on the type of course and holes you will be playing. A word of caution to those who might test these two clubs in a practice bay with launch monitor and screen. If the settings the establishment has used have the greens set at soft, a shot than lands on the green will stop quickly. But if you are comparing that club with another one, as in this case, and the second club flies higher but consistently lands a bit shorter, in the fairway just short of the green, it will run out further than if it had hit the green because the monitor settings will have the fairway as firmer than the green. You won't know unless you ask or do the settings yourself. This can give you an erroneous idea of the stopping capability of that second club versus the one that hits the green. They might both stop equally quickly if both hit the green, or the one with the higher, shorter trajectory may stop faster, as is the case with the 7 wood here.

The Ping G430, 3 wood has a convex face. A less than experienced golfer will hit left and right if not very careful. The G430 hybrids a child could use. They’re very user friendly.

It's hard to watch people who strike the ball well with good swing speed make these videos because the outcome is so different from the average player.

Shaft and ball choice will greatly affect these test results.

D9 dispersion looks better. I have both sets as the D7s are in my holiday bag. D9s seem easier to hit and feel softer so far.

I switched from Pro V1 to the Triad a month ago. The Triad is more accurate, straighter and has excellent feel on the greens. Then I "floated" them in salt water to see if they are more balanced than the Pro V1s. 12/12 Triads were perfectly balanced. 7/12 Pro V1s were balanced and 5 were unbalanced. When the Pro V1 first came out, IT was the perfectly balanced ball. I don't know what happened but it isn't balanced anymore. Float them in salt water and see for yourself. Bryson DeChambeau shows you how to do it in another RUclips video.

Woods go to high for me, even put 80 gram x stiff in woods, prefer hybrid or utility, I'm not even a big hitter

Just picked up a brand new set of the 2021 CB's - $479 shipped. Put them in play today. They. Are. Phenominal. What a steal. Flushed them and was struggling with my previous set (PXG 0311P Gen 3). Theoretically I should hit thee PXG's better with their larger heads / sweet spots, but it wasn't the case. I hit these better. Equal forgiveness. No comparison out of the center.

How can you compare them when the loft on the 430 is a lot stronger?

I went with the G425 irons, they perform brilliantly and the shorter blade length suited my eye. Another great feature is the milled grooves on the wedges as they are alittle stronger lofted it would be harder to gap buying stand alone wedges. They also look fantastic in the bag with the classic black and silver Ping logo.

63yo getting back to playing after hip and knee. Interested in the G430 iron, thing graphite a better choice, don't understand difference in the Standard G430 vs G430 HL and what may be a better choice for a aging golfer, higher handicap looking to get the ball in the air and enjoying the game.

What is your clubhead speed for each of these tests? That would also be a factor for the audience to compare with their own speeds, and expectations for results.

Ok, so that is from perfect conditions in a sim. What about on the course, what about out of the rough, what about from tight lies, what about with wind or other conditions? What about in the real world?

Don't buy either one. That's another option not considered here.

Good to take some on course considerations into account also. Such as which perform better out of semi rough, wet ground etc

Got the 430's and it screwed up all my distances and gapping. Went back to the G425's and all is well again. G425'S are well reduced in price now and are a bargain against the 430's. G425's look better as well.

Just bought the Wilson's as they are replaced getting a good price 👍🏻

I am older now, around 55yrs. I ended up going with the 3hybrid 19degree over fairway woods or other hybrids, I can't really get alot of distance anyways. Ofc, after I watch this , might wish I changed my mind.

Everyone should trying lofting up their woods. I struggle with iron compression but I'm long with woods so weakened mine to fill the gap. I'm 8° driver. 15° 3 wood, 20° 5 wood, 23° 4 hybrid and a 24° 5 iron. 177 5i, 190 4h, 205 5w, 235 3w but I can push the 4h and 5w another 20 yards when I need due to extra length and speed.

Thanks …. Just about to book a fitting and this has helped a lot. I’m wanting to replace my 5 wood with an 18* hybrid and you’ve helped confirm why ! 5 w is a nice club, got it fitted 3 years ago with a good shaft that suits me just fine. However the flight on the course is too high and spinny. The course I play is short so the 5 wood is not a green finder but more a fairway finder on short and tight p4. I’m hoping the strong hybrid will get me a bit further up the fairway especially into a breeze.

Straightest ? That’s the marketing made by Wilson……the video should had focus on this question alone vs different balls in the same category not between Wilson panoply of golf balls.

Did anyone notice that the D9s went really straight along the target line, the D7s not so much. Pilot error or its the equipment? Tim?

With 112 ball speed on 7 iron, you should be getting more yardage than what you're seeing here. I hit the T200's and have about the same ball speed and I was getting a carry distance 10+ yards further. 159-162 was typical carry on a well struck ball. You don't show peak height or land angle data - I don't remember my launch numbers, but peak height for me was in the 75' range with landing angle in the mid to high 40's.

What is your swing speed? I’m right around 110 and am thinking about going lst if I don’t hit straight it’s a slice…
