Held Alaska 75k for the past several years (fly out of Seattle). Being able to book straight into Premium seats at booking is worth it for me (and I currently get 1st Class upgrade roughly 50% of my flights. Side note - the 50k bonus for hitting 75k is gone in 2025 (you can get 15k as one bonus now for hitting that plateau)

Always such little detail or info for the beginner crowd when asking that question. Everybody always says open a travel card and that's it. Well i got Bilt March 2023 since i pay rent and i still can't afford business class flights overseas. We rarely get to travel (I've never been out of the country due to expensive flights) and don't have enough expenses to open another card and get their opening bonus. So try being more helpful than "open a card".

Totally agree on the Virgin Atlantic transfers. Did that with chase last month, got 3 bus class tickets for 41k miles each + $250 taxes. I only had to transfer 29k points each. Amazing deal!

When calculating CPP do you ever keep in mind about the cost of alternate flights that might be cheaper? Or do you just go with points because of CPP? I feel like a lot of the prices are heavily inflated and at times CPP aren't the best indicator. I recently found an economy flight for $240 one way. But on one of the airlines (on the same route) point redemption I found a $440 ticket flight but it came to about 1.7 CPP. I suppose it's all about opportunity cost at this point but how would you decide? Cause given this example, the flight (same route, nonstop, albeit different departure time) the point redemption is a good deal in the end. But would you really value the cost of the ticket $440 or the $240 when factoring CPP? Same with business class tickets too, I see over >10 CPP tickets.

I feel like such a naysayer, but I have to take exception to some of the content here. Blogs like Geobreeze and Travel on Points are CONSTASNTLY pitching credit-card affiliate links and showing people ways to earn status. Then you put on a podcast that says not everyone should seek status? I feel this might confuse your audience. Maybe a better way to get your point across is to state that points and miles have become a game (especially with AA's Loyalty Points and recent changes to BA's FF program) and having too many players seeking status (FOMO) is having a negative effect on the game overall by diluting the value of the status (too many people seeking upgrades, free breakfast privileges, etc). If the concept of seeking status only applies to people who travel for work and work is covering your cost, that negates the purpose of Geobreeze and Travel on Points. While it seems that Geobreeze has separate consumer and business models, Travel on Points seems to be mostly consumer, so your argument doesn't really hold weight because you rely on consumer traffic to keep afloat. And the "get out of litigation-jail free" card is always the line, "It's up to the consumer to make a judgment for him/herself" - -which is true but also a crux. I welcome any argument that runs counter or in agreement to this

The Dell credit you don't have to use just for Dell stuff. They often have random other things on there. People literally have bought a PS5 and got credited for it.

I think most people have on average one big vacation a year. For those who don't normally spend or stay enough to have Hyatt Globalist Status getting a Hyatt Guest of Honor makes a lot of sense. I venture to guess that most people do not have many friends that are a Hyatt Globalist to ask. Does it make sense to just buy a Guest of Honor? I see many available to buy for around $50. If you are staying for 7 nights, free breakfast and lounge access for a week for $50 seems like a bargain. Any risks in this approach?

Great discussion! It's good to be very intentional with points and miles and not get caught up in the hype. Use the points while they still have their highest value!
