You can add a companion to a cash booking, so having companion pass should not affect whether or not you want to buy points. If you can get a flight for 10,000 points or $150 plus taxes and fees, then having companion pass allows you to get two tickets for 10,000 points or $150 plus taxes and fees. Assuming they are the exact same ticket, the points are worth 1.5c in both scenarios, so it wouldn’t make any more sense to buy points just because you have companion pass.
Unless you can't meet the minimum spend once you have companion pass it works the same way whether you paid cash or paid points what is the reason for buying them at 1.5 cents when you only get 1.4 cent value?
