Tuba Skinny_I've Been Blue Ever Since You Went Away_by Papa Charlie McCoy (1930)
The musicians of Tuba Skinny, have invariably shown us their arranging talents over the years. “I've Been Blue Ever Since You Went Away” is another example of their skills. From a simple song about the sadness and emptiness that engulfs a person after the passing of a loved one, they have created a dynamic, instrumentally expansive piece where every musician has his or her show off. In the second minute of the recording, Charlie Halloran's amazing solo draws attention. Until Greg couldn't help but smile.

Tuba Skinny_Miss the Mississippi and You_ Jimmy Rodgers song (1932)

Beautifully sung by Greg Sherman, the song by Jimmy Rodgers: "Miss the Mississippi and You". As befits Tuba Skinny, the song arranged and performed superbly. Of note is Craig Flora's solo, from 2:12 to 3:05. It builds an amazing mood and is straightforwardly - as user @jameserwin7546 expressed it - stuffy. In my opinion, it is indeed difficult to catch a normal breath for that moment. Jimmie Ro...

I make no secret of the fact that the dynamic, lively and gritty songs performed by Tuba Skinny rally me the most. "Jazz Battle" is one of the most representative examples of this type of recording in their repertoire. In 1928, Jabbo Smith was stuck in Chickago for several years after an aborted tour with James P. Johnson's orchestra. At that time, he entered into a contract with Brunswick Reco...
Tuba Skinny_I'm Going Back Home_Recorded in Houston, October 2021

This song probably needs no introduction. "I'm going back home" first saw the "light of day" in 1930, performed by the duo "Memphis Minnie and Joe McCoy" I don't know how long Tuba Skinny has been performing this song, but its popularity makes one think it's been around forever. No wonder, then, that it is part of the album "Some Kind-a-Shake" which was hailed as the band's best album.

When They Ring Those Golden Bells is a beautiful gospel and bluegrass song written in 1887 by Daniel de Marbelle. The copyright was acquired by the John Church Company, and the song was first recorded in 1915 by the Imperial Quartet. The song has been covered by many famous artists. I counted fifty official versions, including one from behind the "Iron Curtain," where the (then Czechoslovakian)...

"Eagle Ridin' Papa" is a song recorded in 1930 by Big Bill Broonzy. The song's authorship is attributed to Thomas Dorsey, and this version, performed by Tuba Skinny, comes from their first public performance during the COVID 19 pandemic. Although the band played with a depleted lineup (Erika Lewis and Todd Burdick were missing), the performance was extremely successful. NOLA, December 30, 2020.

"How do they do it that way" is a sensationally sung by Erika Lewis song by Viktoria Spivey. In my opinion, it surpasses the orginal in performance and arrangement. As always, Tuba Skinny rose to the occasion. Shaye Cohn and her team are unrivaled. The song is from a performance at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston (October 2021).

"Mighty Anchor" was first performed by the Tuba Skinny team in November 2020 during a live performance on line. 100044238483503/videos/293807188550067 (47th minute) I experienced déjà vu at the time. I couldn't get rid of the impression that I had heard it somewhere before. I was wrong, of course, but searching the Internet I found something like this: ruclips.net/video/FKM2HrvSoKM...

"Security" is one of those Tuba Skinny songs that have little to do with jazz. Tuba Skinny is a versatile band, inspired by many musical genres. They give old, sometimes forgotten compositions a second life. "Security" - by Allen Rathel Bunn as Tarheel Slim, is a rockabilly style song originally performed in 1960 by Tarheel Slim and his wife Little Ann. Tuba Skinny at the Miller Outdoor Theatre...

This version of Tuba Skinny's "San" was recorded during a concert happening in Ridgefield Park, August 10, 2021. This is the only time I know of when the band played this theme with vocals. The 1936 text by Spencer Leigh Leon Selph (Blue Ridge Playboys), is sung by guest performer Blind "Boy" Paxton. The composition itself, written by Lindsay McPhail and Walter Michels, dates back to 1920 and h...

👍
Where is Barnabus? Who's this good trumbon player?
It's Charlie Halloran. An excellent trombonist who has assisted Tuba Skinny many times before, in Barnabus' absence.
One of the most haunting pieces you'll hear, that shows the hugh amount of skill that TS has. Love it!
Superb, the most polished assembly of improvising musicians!
Tuba Skinny exemplifies what it means to be a "tight" PROFESSIONAL band. New Orleans jazz at its best.
All good instrumentalist's together the famous Tuba Skinny N.O. band 💚
Excellentissime !
Love this song! Tuba Skinny you are the Best!!!!
I love your music. It gets the feet tapping, I just can't help it. Keep it up, from New Zealand.

Shaye Cohn reveals a delightful aspect of her charming character the way she introduces the members of her band. No wonder they all love her to bits and no wonder we all admire her genius.
Oh, yes!
Now Jason is missing, too. Who knows if he misses Tuba Skinny? Or it's just me being too sentimental.
I also have a great affection for Jason. He clearly chose a different life for himself, and I respect that. In spirit I used to call him Buster Keaton - stone face. Let's enjoy while Tuba Skinny is still playing for us.
QUE LINDO VER A TODOS DE FRENTE EN LA FOTO
Erica is a Sweetheart.
Once upon a time I met and even knew a bunch of jazz musicians, but they're pretty much gone now. Through the magic of RUclips I feel like I know Tuba Skinny, but I don't. The only musician represented here I ever met was the man who wrote it 96 years ago. Guess I'm officially old.
It's great to witness history being made. A year ago I had the pleasure, to be at the Christmas concert of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It was an amazing experience. It was as if I had stepped back to the 1930s/ 1940s, the last century. I wish you much health and enjoyment of music
@misfozje3434 Just to be a bit clearer, I didn't meet him when he wrote it, 96 years ago, but several decades later.
Even if it was thirty-five years ago, you still "touched" history.
Do I hear reverb on the clarinet?
They do. Improving the dynamics of the soundtrack, I modified a bit the part with Craig's solo.
bravo, bravisimo!!!!!! 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Absolutely perfect! Beautiful.
Tant il est vrai que la bonne musique ne se trompe pas , elle va droit au fond de l'âme ! Ce groupe est une véritable thérapie pour être heureux . Jde les écoute depuis des années et je ne peux que leur dire un grand Merci !
Good stuff!
Спасибо от души❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Excellent video....nay... Short film! I know nobody's plugged in but these mo-fos are always ELECTRIC!
I can't get enough of this Group
Rosa Lee has a marvellous voice and is so attractive......
Amazing!!
Fabulous cinematography, what Tuba Skinny has always deserved.
No slackers here! They bring it all out!
You guys do it up right! Best New Orleans jazz ever!
Still the best live band in NOLA, always will be!👏👏🎉
brilliant!... when will you tour scotland??...please!
Bellevideohenri😂😂😂
Phenomenal band! Love this group!!
Que delicia de interpretación, son unos maravillos profesionales, hacen trabspotar la mente a esa época. Gracias
What a great tune!! Such excellence coming from Erika on vocals, accompanied so well by the brass and the reed, all coming to the fore with their solos and shining in the old ensemble style. I mustn't forget the others with Toby giving his musical burps on the big sousaphone, and Robyn on washboard, though his positioning far out on the right kept him out of view. I'd like to pay a particular tribute to Max and Greg on guitars. The latter does the rhythm playing so well that it is easy to overlook. Finally a special tribute to Max on the resonator guitar. Thankfully the guy filming was probably looking for what I was too: those lightening quick chord changes where his fingers were hard to keep up with. Masterful! A special tribute to the film dept, this was some of the most thoughtful filming I have seen for a long time. Congrats.
Estupenda musica
The way the cornet and the clarinet converse in the beginning is just beautiful.
Great always/.
The setting and presentation of the film are magnificent, the Tuba Skinny then... In short WOW!WOW!WOW!
