Hey i have question, i never played with chlorates so. My question is : Doesn't potassium chlorate ignite like potassium nitrate??? I mean without adding sugar or aluminium powder

why does it have to be potassium persulfate and hydrochloric acid? Can't potassium chloride alone work? What is the function of these two materials?

I had see a tips one time, a simple PH indicator in hypochlorite electrotite, is to add a little CaCl2 into electrolite. when the PH become too alkaline, the Ca ions precipititate on the anode in form of Cacium hydroxide (almost insoluble), this deposite is visible by eye on the anode, like limescale. adding HCl with stirring until the calcium hydroxide layer disapear. You can set a dropper of dilute HCl, and adjust the drop rate. if the calcium hydroxide layer is still appear, rise a little the drop rate until you find a good balance, meaning no calcium hydroxide precipitate anymore. the same way to have the good cell temperature : little insulating the cell with thermal materials, give a initial electrolite heat on a hotplate, rising to 65° and remove from the hot plate. apply a constant current with your power supply and regulary check the electrolite temperature. if the temp drop, you can rise the current ( not exced 6V for CLO3) and/or put more cell insulation. the electrolyse reaction is exothermic, and by this way the reaction can maintain it's temperature by itself. If you want better efficiency, start with sodium cloride, wich is far more soluble than potassium chloride, and sodium chlorate do not precipitate like potassium chlorate do ins the cell. meaning it stil in solution, and contribute to eletrolite conductivity, so the efficiency. then do a double metathesis with your NaCLO3 electrolyte and a KCl solution to precipitate KClO3. if you do it well, you can obtain very very pure KClO3 without recrystallizing it.

Something weird happened when I removed the fully nitrated cotton and attempted to reuse the acids for a second batch. The mix refused to soak the cotton thoroughly and it began to give off NO2 really deep orange (good thing I had my reservations so I was ready with my fume extraction rig). It appears that this is a one use only setup as it will totally decompose after it’s done the job. For those wondering if they can do what I did, there you have it man. DO NOT REUSE this! Oh and the neutralization NaHCO3 was more “reactive” than normal complete with deep dark foam (scary stuff). Edit: DO NOT LOSE RESPECT FOR ANY OF THIS STUFF EVEN IF IT LOOKS “INNOCENT” ENOUGH AS IT IS “JUST” COTTON. ALWAYS BE FULLY PREPARED AND READY TO ACT EXPECTING THE UNEXPECTED. My reaction and outcomes may not always match that of others. That is my #1 rule always!

I read somewhere about this formula: KCl + NaClO3 = NaCl + KClO3. Is it possible to make KClO3 that way? Please explain. I am not a chemistry expert at all.

DO NOT CONFUSE gunpowder (smokeless powder) with black powder. BLACK POWDER IS CLASSIFIED AS AN EXLOSIVE....smokeless is not! THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE!

For pyro it’s ok, but for black powder guns it’s stupid to add metal powders. But every black powder here was super slow compared to good quality black powder, corned, pressed and graded to different sizes. I made it once and uploaded video on YT.

charcoal is better than activated carbon for black powder/gun powder. The best charcoal for black powder is made from woods like red cedar, willow or paulownia. it will go puff in less than 1 second

You must let the cutton soak longer in the acid mix at last over 2hours. when you do it make the prove with very very small amount of guncutton because it gives an big red fireball and you feel the heat. No yellow part in the flame no ash remains and if you use an porcelan dish no yellow spot than you have real guncutton.

Your gumcotton burns slow. It should make a plump noise with a quick flash. Maybe your cotton is a bit much for your acid mixture. Drying is also an issue, if your guncotton is becoming yellow while drying, it could be deteriorating, which lowers its quality. İf you are heating it, do not. Put on filter paper or newspaper and dry in room conditions. If you store it, will also deteriorate and gets yellow. Never store large amounts together, it can self ignite. There are compounds stopping this reaction.
