As a child born in 1954 in the north of England, our parents both worked full time to provide the best possible care they could for their three children. All boys. Life was care free and safe in those days. Sadly, those times have disappeared due to the current situation of the country.
The good old days when people were normal. 💙💙💙💙💙
I was exactly that child with the ribbon in her hair .
That really was a thing in the 60's. Making up some new dance - seemed like one per week LOL! To appeal to younger people a Rock Hudson / Doris Day movie even had one called the "Roly Poly" which flopped as you might expect. Ah the good old days LOL!
I was a war baby, born 1944. I had a wonderful childhood and am so sorry that the children now cannot know the freedom we had. No phones, we had to go to a phonebox to make a call. But it was a fantastic era. By choice I would not have been born at any other time.

I was born in 1949 and certainly believe the 50's were a golden time to be a child. I would be outside playing all day, my mother would call "I want you back before the street lights come on!" as I shot out of the door! 😊 Hapoy days.
And it was us that started restricting our kids playing out all day because of the fear of men molesting them, or of cars racing down the street, or we complained to the Police about noise and disruption. Us, our generation. It was us that bought and discarded and polluted the country, that used pesticides, that used up the earths resources faster than any other generation, that started going on meaningless holidays by air once, twice sometimes three times a year, that voted into office whichever party promised the lowest taxation not caring what that meant for the NHS or elderly or disability care, or roads etc. We were aware in secondary school that the worlds population was about to more than double so it’s no wonder the poorest want to move to the more affluent countries and as we were the worlds foremost colonisers it’s no wonder we suffer the consequences. What’s changed really in your own towns? Not very much in real terms. We don’t build enough homes, hospitals or increase the number of doctors etc. What’s changed really is social media - where we can all sit wringing our hands and blame politicians for something that we are all party to. The kids of today have far more pressure sure… but it’s our generation that started it for them. Let’s admit our guilt.

I was born in the early 50's & loved being a child, nobody had much but you loved what you had & didn't want anything else. We were very lucky to be children of the 50's. Mum knitted our jumpers, made most of our clothes & cooked everything from scratch, Dad did up second hand bikes & painted them so they were good as new for us & made us a sledge which he turned into a buggy by putting wheels on in the summer, we had occasional trips to the seaside to get sand between our toes & play with Dad's amazing sandcastles on the beach. All very low key & everyone just getting quietly on with life & so happy to be alive.

Shame about the backing track as it's not very relevant to the film clips, which are great. Not seen the first clip before, guess its from c1957, looks like they're dancing to a skiffle band, VERY British and sounding nothing like Danny and the Juniors, and many of the youngsters are wearing clothes more akin to the Trad Jazz craze so prevalent at the time, especially among university students. Second clip is taken from the 1959 film "We Are The Lambeth Boys", essential viewing for British 50s fans, all about the going-ons at a youth club in Kennington south London. The film was actually intended to show an accurate, sympathetic, view of London youngsters, to disprove the media perception of all UK youngsters being "typical" Teddy Boys aka violent thugs that was not true.
Never seen "We Are The. Lambeth Boys" the people dancing of all ages are actually celebrating one of their neighbour's going into an old folk's home, the parties for the old lady, when was the last time you saw anyone in an actual so called "community hub" do that for a well loved and respected neighbour.NEVER, that's how life has changed, this is of its time, if you can do better, show everyone how you can do better, btw I made that video in under 12 minutes , the music was in my head, not Trad Jazz when did you see a street party of neighbours of all ages doing Trad Jazz I can't see any university students either ,and no I was not showing a sympathetic look at 50s Kennington, just a great send off for an old lady respected and well loved by her neighbours, kids and teens, the likes of what we will never see ever again,they new how to have a party, and it is Danny & The Juniors, from my vinyl collection not a c.d MP3 as these clowns claiming they own my vinyl collection, chancers the lot of them corporate suits claiming they own my original 45rpm, they are all farting unicorn dust out their bum's 😂😂😂😂😂

Sorry if you're offended by my comments, I wasn't trying to criticise, I just gave my honest opinion as to what I was watching and hearing. I also "liked" the vid for you. Interesting to read your take of the apparent reality to the first clip - please clarify when and where it was filmed, thanks. Meanwhile I stick to MY perception of the event, based on the fashions etc, and there WERE some youngsters in the clip who looked and danced exactly as if they were British (dunno where you are ?) uni students who at the time, mid 50s esp 1956/57, were heavily into the brief resurgence of trad jazz and skiffle too, and being mid-upper class dressed "sensibly" (cord trousers, roll necj sweaters, etc - and def not like the infamous Teds etc, they were the hipsters of their time. The small group of musicians looked in every way to be a folk cum skiffle group, which matched the background (bomb site ?) and the clothing fashions on show, which all pointed to c1957, but if you know better than please correct me. Meanwhile, YOU admit the music "was in your head" - which implies you also don't KNOW what actual music the happy crowd were dancing to ?. "At the hop" wasn't heard in the UK until mid 58 at the very earliest, so again I suggest later than the clip, and a much different sound than would be created by the musos in the clip. These are my personal reasons for my comments re the backing track, perhaps you could if not should have spent more than 12 minutes putting the vid together.... But then again, I'm a perfectionist, a stickler for historical accuracy, perhaps you're not. And yes, if I wanted to, I could have created a video as good as this, if not better. But nowadays I leave that sort of thing to my son who works in Soho on digital special effects for big movies, Star Wars etc... Moving on to the second part of your vid, which despite your protestations IS A DIFFERENT CLIP/EVENT entirely, nowt to do with a send-oof to an old lady (really confused why you claim it is, I see no old folk in that second clip, sorry for my dimwittedness ahem but you're rant is far from clear... Sorry you've not seen "We are the Lambeth Boys", I suggest you do so, as thats def where the second half of your vid originates from. It was a film made in 1959, with sound, so you can hear and see the local band the youngsters are dancing too, which includes their take of "Putting On The Style" by Lonnie Donegan (yes, skiffle again, ahem) . Sadly I cannot post you a link to the exact dancehall part of that film, where its clear that most of those at the small dance are the younsters (late teens) from the local youth club which the film is based around, altho we do see an obviously slightly older Teddyboy couple jiving too. And I also have NO idea why you rant at me about cd collections and chancers in suits, I didnt comment on the originality of your soundtrack, but you seem to be having a drunken? rant at me and anything else, why ?. I too hate the suits who continually pull excellent musical vids off Facebook just because of music rights etc, as if the Elvis Graceland Foundation really needs any more money, for example, so then I agree with your hatred of such people and empathise entirely with your views, I've suffered from this myself, so don't blame me !. And finally, and fwiw, actually YES I have witnessed and been part of a social event such as this, albeit in more recent times, NOT quite all of modern society is as bad as you seem to think. Yes the sense of "big city community spirit" for white Brits has gone down the pan, but then again having lived in West London since the mid 80s, I know that the nonsense spouted on old tv and film about the good ol Cockney friendliness etc is a load of hokum these days, sadly, its easily the most unfriendly part, insular, uncaring part of the UK - ask ANYbody from up north, or my west country homeland, who's lived and worked in London in the last 30 years and they will always confirm this. Where we're from we still have communities, we know our neighbours ffs, so YES you can still witness social community events such as this, albeit admittledly less so than say 20 or 30 years ago, sadly. I cannot thank the people enough who made these types of videos. I am choked up and in tears. I lived in London in the early eighties and it was still having this flavor, though in an 80s way as well as a Carnaby Street way. I love London so much, and I love England even though I'm an American. My ancestors are mostly from the UK completely. God bless you all - and may we get through these times. I'm a Christian believer and I believe that the good Lord is coming back for his own soon... so follow Him.

I was born in 1953, yes times were better in some respects, nicer high streets, quality foods, less cars. But people can go abroad now on holiday and not put up with bad weather. Also relying on public phone boxes, much better with mobile phones now.
This made me realise how hard we must now work to produce a world for our kids and grandkids, and not just mope about how great it was in our childhood. I call on my fellow doddery old gits to improve the world for the benefit of those to whom we bequeath it.

I was 1 year old. My mum used to shop Kings Road and Carnaby Street. My dad decorated Dudley Moores Apartment in Cheney Walk Chelsea. My dad was a brilliant decorator. I remember watching him decorate our house, such attention to detail.
