KONYA (BEYŞEHIR): Esrefoglu Mosque, Eşrefoğlu Camii, UNESCO World Heritage Site, "Wooden Hypostyle"
Located in Konya Province, Turkey, the Eşrefoğlu Mosque sits just 100 meters north of the Beyşehir Lake. During the last years of the Seljuks of Rum, various governors established semi-independent principalities, called Beyliks, in Anatolia. One of these principalities was the Eshrefids, who ruled central west Anatolia from 1280 to 1326.
In 1288, Süleyman Bey, the second bey of the Eshrefids, rebuilt the city of Beyşehir as his beylik's capital. Although his beylik was not politically significant, the city became one of the cultural centers of the Seljuk world. In 1296, he commissioned a mosque in Beyşehir and was buried next to it after his death in 1302.
After seven centuries, Esrefoglu M...

I would have never ended up here if I didn’t meet a man named Akira on 26th of may(yesterday) in one of the most popular bazaars of Uzbekistan (Chorsu) and I am uzbek myself and I saw an eastern Asian man in his late 30s having a hard time explaining something to a lady selling scarfs, he was speaking english so I approached him and he seemed really happy to know I can talk english, and he introduced himself and I asked what he was looking for, he was looking for a scarf for his wife and after I explained what kind of scarf he was looking, we had a really warm chat, he was extremely polite and respectful, he told me that there is a graveyard of japanese people in Uzbekistan, I had no idea, he told me after WW2, they were sent here and Uzbeks helped them and his ancestors were buried here and Japanese people have always been grateful for this reason towards Uzbeks till this day. He also said there was a Japanese cemetery in Samarkand. We did not have much time so I couldn’t give further questions, I am really glad for the creators of this video, I bet many locals do not know about this, I wish to spread this knowledge to my friends and family. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your story, and I apologize for my late reply. I just saw your comment this morning. As you mentioned, the stories of the Japanese POV in Uzbekistan after WWII are not well-known among both Uzbeks and Japanese. My aim for these videos is “record keeping” of the past for the future. I do not want these rare first-person anecdotal to disappear. On purpose I did not edit any of the interviews because I wanted them to be primary sources for any future historical research or anybody who is interested in the topic. Also, without amazing simultanious translations by Mr. Khaitmirzaev Umid, these interviews would not have even happened. I’m forever grateful for his help. I really would like to visit your country Uzbekistan again. Thank you so much for your comment and support!

I am really grateful for your response, indeed, this video will be very useful to people who wish to learn about the history which is unknown for the majority.
