  • The "Iron Mosque" is the second principal mosque in Putrajaya, Malaysia after Putra Mosque. It is located opposite the Palace of Justice and next to Islamic Complex Putrajaya, a religious authority headquarters.
It features a district cooling system, and fans or an air conditioning system. The mosque employs "architectural wire mesh". The main entrance is strengthened with glass reinforced concrete to increase the integrity of the structure and uses fine glass to create an illusion of a white mosque from afar.
There is a mihrab wall made of 13-meter-high glass panel with two verses from Surah Al-Baqarah on the right and Surah Ibrahim on the left. The mihrab wall is designed so that no light will be reflected, creating an illusion that the verses are floating on air.
While this mosque isn’t as ornate as other mosques around the world, the Iron Mosque is quite beautiful. The architecture and design are open and inviting.
Other mosques I’ve been to have quite a bit of mosaic-work or Islamic verses carved into the walls, but this one doesn’t have any of that. The halls are very open and airly, and they are designed beautifully without a lot of adornment or excess. Even without the extra frills and ornamentation that is common in Christian churches or other mosques, I think the design, architecture and layout are marvelous.
