It had its problems, mainly s3 being one long fight that dragged, captain dread and sonic being really dumb at points. It also has a lot of good in it too. Nine was a great villian and shadow is at his best. Watched it twice and enjoyed it both times.

Cards on the table, I'm glad Ian Flynn is on the writing team. And I hope he stays on for a good while yet. That being said, even I have to concede the dude can be more than a little heavy handed with references. A good number of them can be forced beyond the most die-hards of the lore.

This was a good video. A lot of the contentious points with the game aren't things that register to me as problematic necessarily. But I get them being hang-ups for sure. I also agree that an SA2 Remaster makes big bucks easy. That's a game that could truly be Generational.

I don't get people's apprehension with Amy's current characterization. She's no longer the creepy obsessed fan girl. Oh no. What a tragedy.

I didn't mind a few of the rewritten lines. I liked the references to south and west-side islands, and the time stone reference made sense to me because it's how Sonic time travelled before, and it can't be the chaos emerald's doing like in 06 because Sonic is currently collecting those. I appreciated them, but they could have been done better. They could have had the duo reacting to recognizing green hill and chemical plant and being all like "well that's weird" and moving on without giving too much away, both referencing the originals AND the oversaturation of those levels recently. I don't like how they treated Amy, and they ruined my favorite joke at the end of the game. I would have preferred a bit on her new bio to recognize she's had a massive obsession with Sonic before but has outgrows it in the future, or at least making the new animation consistent in the beginning. Knuckles' line to classic Sonic though REALLY needed a reanimation, maybe with classic shrugging or something instead, with a genuine look of concern on his face. It just looks like it doesn't fit anymore. I also thought the need to adjust Rouge's design was kinda hilarious. I kind of assumed in the beginning it was classic Robotnik that was stolen in the original, but the addition of him in that scene kinda takes away the "I was right" moment toward the end. Good video, I just had some opinions in mind. I wanna get the game a little later when I've got means to, but I'm not even gonna bother with any extra versions, I think the Terios skin looks stupid because of his Knuckles lookin' hair, and I don't need anything that comes with the super expensive deluxe version. Still looking forward to it though, even if I've been spoiled to hell and back. The Shadow side looks like a lot of fun, and I'd love to have boost on R2 again. I'm pretty undecided on the drop dash, but it'll be interesting to try it out, and if I don't like it, I could just elect not to use it, y'know?

Do you wanna know what happened? I’ll tell you what happened. In the 2010s, we lacked something called continuity! The scripts for majority of sonic games absolutely sucked! So to have something like this that actually has continuity is refreshing!

Good video, I agree with all of your points. After playing OG Generations more times than I could count the new dialogue is awkward at best. It’s the same problem with Frontiers’ dialogue by having these references feel out of place. I wouldn’t mind these changes if there was a legacy option for the cutscenes but here we are. I also don’t understand the inclusion of the drop dash (in Modern Sonic’s case) if the player has mastered the stages, and therefore never runs out of boost energy. I did hope that maybe collecting the Chao would give some sort of reward. More skins, skills, or BGM tracks. But I still like the inclusion of the Chao. The “improved” character traits for Amy are odd. Sonic and Amy’s character dynamic was fun to watch because it was a running gag in the series. It wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, it’s a cartoon. It’s going to be a much harder task if the Adventure games were to be rewritten like SXSG. Btw what’s the song at 47:29 ? Thanks.

Honestly I find the rewrite wayyyy fucking better but I think it's incredibly shitty and anti-art/preservation that there is NO option to access the original cutscenes in the remaster. It doesn't affect me because again I do prefer the new dialogue but it would have been such a simple decision that would have satisfied everyone and have just been good for preservations sake. Baffled that there wasnt a toggle or something for this like with Halo2 anniversary

I really stopped caring about the story when nothing aside from the dialogue was changed. I liked the original's enough for nostalgia reasons but it was white noise to me and same for here but now it's more baffling that they still weren't confident enough in just making a new story for Sonic or even a final story that combines Sonic's and Shadow's campaign so the Time Eater boss fight doesn't suck major booty cheeks. If the next one isn't that interesting then I'm happy I made the pit stop here. Really good video too, your Sonic X review was really entertaining and don't mind seeing a retrospective / review for Satam if you like that show as much as I do (ignoring the shit stain in that show) which is pretty good for Sonic show standards.

I really wish the party change with Sonic and Amy, was him **giving** her the cupcake platter to have her 'stop'.. it could have similar comedic value and not make Amy's animation awkward. :'D Glad I'm not the only one who didn't like some of the dialogue/scene differences.. I'm fine with the idea of changing some, like Sonic talking to his friends instead of not lol. But.. sigh

Most if not all of the changes in this script seem like they were made specifically to placate the most toxic and pedantic of Sonic “fans.” The writers “need” to let us know that they know Green Hill is on South Island, because we don’t want a repeat of Forces. They “need” to remove any scene that vaguely implies Amy is an obsessive stalker, because we don’t want a repeat of Heroes and Sonic X. They “need” to revise any line of dialogue that remotely suggests Sonic and Tails aren’t taking their mission seriously, because we don’t want a repeat of Colors and Lost World. Even the end cutscene changed the portal that Classic Sonic jumps through, so as not to imply that Classic Sonic and Classic Tails “live” on Green Hill, because we don’t want a repeat of Sonic Prime. It’s tragic that they’re jumping through so many hoops and making so many uncomfortable compromises for people who were never going to like the story anyway.

Goodness, imagine if they remade Sonic Unleashed and had Ian Flynn rewrite the whole English script for *that* game, *and* all its lines done by the current voice cast. I fear what would happen to the "Do I need a reason to want to help out a friend?" line. And what kind of references will they tack on? A mention of Station Square upon Sonic's arrival to Eggmanland? Allusions to Chaos Control and Sonic Advance 3 in the opening scenes? Roger Craig Smith's take on the Werehog would be interesting, at least.

The Sonic the Hedgehog series has generally lacked deep character development, with a few exceptions like Sonic, Shadow, and occasional one-off characters such as Chip or Merlina. Most of the cast leans heavily on their one-dimensional personalities, which works fine since Sonic and Shadow are the series' primary stars. However, when a character like Amy has her defining traits softened or removed without anything meaningful added in their place, she risks becoming entirely irrelevant. Beyond her role as the series' “main female character,” there's not much substance left to her character. Ironically, even side characters like Maria or Zavok end up feeling more developed.

As much as I understand these changes to the writing has made it worse, I do want to mention the IDW comics ONLY because taking a detour into Ian’s own writing and arcs has been very interesting and in some ways, bangers. Some character interactions can be annoying while others is a treat, I do recommend checking it out and maybe you might find evidence to what looks good on Ian.

I can understand a lot of the complaints towards the rewriting of the cutscenes, but I didn't mind the concept of trying to tweak the script a bit to make it feel less mundane than it was in the original. Sonic Generations's story was disappointingly lack luster as it was, so having dialogue that allows the character interactions to feel charming makes sitting through the story a bit more bearable. What I do mind is how little effort there was in executing these tweaks for what is supposed to be a definitive remaster. The dialogue changes are harmlessly inoffensive at best and pointlessly redundant at worst, practically none of the animation was changed to coincide with the new dialogue and thus makes the lip-syncing of the dialogue distracting to watch, and most of the cast sound like they were given no direction in their recording sessions. You can practically hear the older age in Mike Pollock's voice, which makes it worse that he doesn't attempt to do distinct performances as Classic and Modern Eggman like in the original. It's confusing to me that Kate Higgins was brought back to voice Tails in the Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps short and to record some new lines for Sonic Colors Ultimate, but was not brought back for this remaster, ultimately leaving Colleen O'Shaughnessey to voice Tails and come up with a new voice for Charmy so that the two characters can sound distinct from one another (A for effort, F for execution). Best quote to sum up this messy attempt of remastering the cutscenes: "Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing".

I may have an unpopular opinion, but i honestly don’t think the whole rewritten story thing, is anywhere near as bad as everyone, (yes, including you) says it is. I honestly think it’s harmless. Especially since I never really saw Generations story as anything special. I’m not saying I love the changes, I’m more just indifferent to it, and don’t think it’s worth wasting time worrying about.

35:34 What happened is that ever since Forces pretty much all the creative decisions are happening by the new “Sonic Lore Team” which is largely western-focused. It’s why the characterizations between the Japanese and western versions of the characters are becoming more and more distant from each other. According to Windii (who does a lot of retranslating of the older Sonic games) the Japanese script stayed completely the same for SXSG. The rewrite pretty much confirms one of my biggest fears, in that by trying to now tie everything together into an actually consistent canon, the franchise is beginning to lose a lot of the nuance and mystique that made the series exciting in the first place. An adventure can’t just be an adventure anymore; it either needs to justify its existence by poorly referencing something else or build up some other plot point to be used later.

To add onto your Amy point (she was my favorite character next to Tails) I also hate how this new change got rid of her temper entirely. It adds onto this new thing I hate in terms of modern writing to females. Where attempting to write them with flaws in any way is seen as bad or problematic. Like why is it treated as bad for a female character to be angry? As any time they have a temper they are constantly labeled with terms like "bitch" or "unlikable" yet write a male the same way and its somehow fine (while these same people rant about DS btw) and are somehow okay with making females a stereotypical girl and find it "improving" when this is a trait not only long outdated, but actively sexist. It's basically saying Amy displaying any emotions that aren't positive is a bad thing, she no longer has any flaws now. She's basically become the stereotypical female voice of reason, the trait that solely defined female characters in the 70s, 80s and 90s media, and especially in sitcoms where it was often used to portray the girl of the group as unfunny to oppose her male commrades. While her only defining characteristics is she's kind and motherly on top of that. If you want to argue her old character is outdated, this new one she has is EVEN more outdated and even sexist to assume its progressive because it strips female characters from having any character other than defining them of their stereotype based on gender. It's like if Knuckles just because all about being a man, having muscle and used the "toxic masculinity" trope. Amy just became a diet version of her Boom persona, as both Ian and Sega have given her Boom-esque traits, but took away the flaws her Boom persona had (which were all the flaws her older persona had ironically) My issue with her fortune cards is they feel the need to constantly display it in every bits of her character, and it was the element that replaced her crush on Sonic. And I feel this goes into the whole divisiveness around female characters as a whole nowadays, where no matter how you write them they will always be divisive and only seem to be acceptable if people say it is. Amy should be allowed to keep her dynamic with Sonic, while being her own independent person. She could even go about doing her chase in a different way to keep their old dynamic interesting. Now that's fine to be like a hobby of some kind, something she does as an activity in her down time or just for fun, and I get that it was a part of her character the older games didn't really shed light too beyond referencing here and there. But its an active part of her character that doesn't really add anything interesting too her beyond she just does fortune cards. I also don't like how they have been written to sideline her Piko Piko Hammer, as recent media seems to have downplayed it some (Frontiers/Dream Team) and when it does appear it no longer actively plays a part in how she functions as a character. They just seem to advertise her with the hammer because that's what she's known to use.

It’s very sad that fans who seen the movie only cared about the cameos. Speaking of cameos the cameos itself is actually confusing and insulting for example some of the cameos like Randy marsh from South Park,detective Flores from big mouth and Mr natural shouldn’t t even be in this film because Randy was from a very R rated show like you can’t reference it without being offensive,big mouth for promoting child pornography and Mr natural appeared in an X rated short called up in flames besides the comics he appears in. While other cameos like the my little pony cameo for example which during the chase chip and dale ride on a group of the characters then in the next shot featuring the 2 the ponies are gone and it’s just them running again. Plus what’s also confusing is the size of the ponies because they look tiny and don’t you say it’s a shrinking spell or some parody predicted it or it’s a cartoon. It’s probably because of the title featuring the word little in it which is a very stupid reason because well… I’m not a brony but I do remember they use to have human characters where the ponies were almost the size as one of the main characters who is a human little girl name Megan Williams and even on the cover of equestrian girls and in a blooper they are little compared to their human counter part but not as tiny like Toy Story characters. What they should have done is not show that part at all or just have them running. As for the movie its actually an insult to the original rescue ranger,Peter pan,who framed Roger rabbit and probably classic fans who support movies like song of the south for example since Bobby Driscoll started in that movie as Johnny.(the main character) and even parents hated the movie for the whole Bobby Driscoll controversy,a drug cartel and depictions of human trafficking. There’s probably a controversy for stealing that kingdom hearts fanart. While people just wanna sit and go oh I know this reference for over an hour plus they end the film literally mocking audience who wanted an actual rescue ranger reboot (and probably Darkwing duck that part I don’t actually know) I don’t know if they were aware of that but if they were then that would have been a very mean move. Plus this movie could be one of their woke agendas thing I don’t know. There are good things I like about this movie because I try to be nice but the only thing I enjoy more is Ellie (I don’t blame the actress who played her so i don’t think it’s her fault) who would have been the second Eddie if there were a who framed Roger rabbit 2 but she would have fears of toons after an incident and the movie would try to cure her fears. The only mistake she made was that Nick jr comment she made for those who seen the scene or a clip about it and what happened to paw patrol and peppa pig. because paw patrol was from Canada by spin master for tvokids and peppa pig was a British series for channel 5 and that the Nick jr part was for their American broadcast. That’s just a huge insult to kids who watches those shows it’s just sad. They should have brought back Disney infinity

You should actually look into their other films. Shut in was pretty good and i found Run Hide Fight to be an excellent thriller that was very nail biting.

This movie is hot garbage. Everything you’ve said and them some. The film, like that God-awful 11th Star Trek film (which ironically also featured Eric Bana), just calls itself as the show it derives itself from meaning you have to actually distinguish which “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” you’re referring to and yet, it doesn’t actually have anything to do with the concept of Rescue Rangers, isn’t set in the world of it, and the show is ultimately nothing but a show that Chip and Dale both did. It would have made more sense just to have it be the two characters Disney originally created and when stuff goes weird, Dale tries to encourage Chip to be detectives to solve the mystery only for him to dismiss it as fictional roles they once played and is no more real than them being palace guards (referencing the _Kingdom Hearts_ games) or what have you. The poster even sells you on something never delivered since Chip keeps that damn blue collar shirt on even when he puts on the jacket and (sorta) embraces his RR self while having had his ear morphed and I don’t remember if he puts on the hat. Why not have the plot be the characters drifted apart because Chip went full Robin from _Teen Titans_ even once the cases seemed to dry up only to be forced back together. Maybe Chip actually became convinced they weren’t needed anymore following false after false hope proved it was time to hang it up. Now Dale is the one having to be the serious one trying to get Chip to lead them to victory because he knows he could never lead the team. There is at least one episode where Chip acts like a complete ass if he didn’t think their plight was a worthy case for them to get involved in. Of course, there was also an episode showing Chip to be a huge fanboy of an ersatz Sherlock Holmes…🙄 Point is, this film is divorced from what it’s drawing from and appropriates from people’s cultural memories. In an odd bit of counterpointing, while the Bobby Driscoll business is serious and not to be discounted, if nothing about the film was changed but Bobby himself _didn’t_ go through what he did IRL, would the Sweet Pete business have been so bad and/or tasteless? Peter of all characters was someone who had issues of never growing up and also counters the whole clinging to the past that the two leads are dealing with. However, the film oddly ignores the fact that Pan actually got a direct-to-video sequel so it’s not like he was a one-and-done.🤨 It probably would have been better if Max Goof was the child star who was less successful after getting older leading to villainy since, after the 2 Goofy movies, he was relegated to either cameos in _House of Mouse_ or going back to being a kid for one of those Christmas movies. At least using Max would keep it relevant to the Disney Afternoon.😕 All the same, FUCK THIS MOVIE!!!

Why do people think Sonic should go for character development? He wasn't made for that, he was made to be a constant and unchanging character, but the writers are too scared to go out of the box and adapt their style to Sonic instead of the other way around.

If the point of Sonic's character arc in this miserable tale was to show how he was a "bad friend" learning the value of being a "good friend", Sonic should have BEEN a "bad friend".
