It is not only Amish people who preserve food like that. I am from Central Asia and our people do exact same preservation, slightly different methods but same idea. We have special rooms/basements/sheds where you store all of your jars full of different salads, jams, pickled food, and etc goods. Also we used to have giant wooden boxes which were filled with sand and carrots were buried in them to last longer, especially during the cold winter. In winter people don’t do shopping much, as they had almost everything for food. Also bread gets toasted and stored too, it does not go bad as quick.

Amish didn't come up with these ideas and canning and pickling. I'm Canadian and women have done this since colonization bringing it from Europe.

My dad's house, my childhood home, a bungalow built in the 50s in Canada has a root cellar downstairs. Heavy thick wooden door. Dad had bins full of potatoes,carrots,onions,parsnips in the winter. Mom did canning and put them on the shelf. Garden in the backyard. Most homes had this and gardens and housewives canned in Canada.

Even they have different problems, but there are many things we can learn from them. Totally support them for against the stupid things the democrats tried to force them to do. Does someone just because he is in the government know better than others? To live a life more friendly to the environment, I think Amish people know better than those democrats supported by those celebrities with luxury life style.

Dude, I've got some advice for you. If you are going to focus on Amish practices, you should do better at limiting your clips to Amish people. Like the two men in your title shot are NOT Amish. Comments about your other videos vary from your being deceitful to the Amish are no different from the rest of us and this is Amish propaganda.

I avoid any eggs at the grocery store claiming the chicken were fed a vegetarian diet. Free range (bugs, worms, weeds etc) eggs always taste better.

I hate to burst your bubble. Did you know the Amish are the most guilty with breeding pure bred puppy mills in deplorable conditions. I used to work in a store that sold high end puppies and a lot of them came from the Amish and they had plenty of cases against them. Not all, but too many.

My wife and I live in an off-grid super-insulated solar home in central British Columbia, Canada. Our hot water is produced by three roof-top evacuated-tube solar panels, and backed up by a copper coil in the firebox of our wood-burning cookstove. We've had entirely free hot water for the last seven years. Believe it or not, lots of people do this in rural areas.

Lionel here in Central California. Being first generation Portuguese my parents had large crocks that they would store salted pork and cure olives. My father would smoke sausages that my mother and aunts had stuffed. They would render the fat into lard there was can on the stove for cooking. We always had home baked bread and canned fruit to eat. Being raised on a dairy farm we had milk, butter, cheese, eggs, home grown vegetables, along with chicken, pork, and beef. We may have been poor, but we always had a great variety to eat and never were hungry. I totally respect the Amish for who they are and their way of life. God bless them. Just saying….
