Nelsons Guitars

This channel is all about luthier work (building stringed instruments). Acoustic guitars are primarily what I build but that doesn't mean you won't see the occasional mandolin or fiddle.

Chapter 21 Setting neck and truing Fret Board
I am only two years into my woodworking journey and have NEVER used a band saw, but it has been a bucket list tool. A week ago I purchased this exact same model, the Ridgid BS14000, despite reading some very mixed reviews on some of the other 14" Ridgid saws. This saw ran smoothly and had virtually no vibration so I decided to take a chance! I have watched your video several times as there are no longer available instruction manuals or other guidance documents to be had. I took the tool apart, did a thorough clean-up, replaced the bearings and guide blocks and purchased a Kreg fence - I have not yet set up the fence as I just got the machine reassembled last night. Your video provided excellent advice and gave me the only chance I have had to learn about this saw. My first impressions of this new tool are very positive. Thanks very much for this very educational video, Larry
Sure like that guitar solo .Is there any place to get the entire lesson or sheet music? Thanks
smart move starting at the wide end of the fretboard!
Great video- clear and concise presentation. Ron Hazleton, Pa
Good job . I have a 89 delta 28-203 and it is basically the same guide and tensioner design . Take care of a good bandsaw and it'll be good for a long time . :)
Thank you for doing this video. I bought an old Rockwell 10 inch band that is probably 50 years old saw at a yard sale for 25 dollars a couple weeks ago. The fellow selling it, it was an estate sale, said it didn't work right. Of course it was somewhat disheveled so I have been having a hard time figuring out what is wrong with it. Watching this video I realize the problem rests with the square guides. I'm missing two. Need a blade as well. My good deal has just turned into a great one.
I am glad this helped. Bandsaws are very straight forward in how they work but knowing the basics makes them all the better.
I am a beginner and this video was perfect. The information was very helpful
Hello from France, thank you very mutch. Happy new year😉
Nelson, its been ten years now buddy, still doing good job here. Thanks for advices, all the best 👍
✌️👌👍❤️
Thanks for the comment. I had forgotten about this video. Not sure I am brave enough to turn one on a lathe again. But it was fun at the time!
Hi, I'm having trouble setting my new bandsaw up, and I’m hoping that you can help me sort out the problem, its an EINHELL. I noticed the blade seemed to be slightly out of line, so I tried to readjust it. When I switched it on I could hear the motor starting, but the blade did not spin, and now the ON/OFF switch seems to have jammed. Please help. TIA
So many possiblilties. If that is not a direct drive it could be that the drive belt slipped off or a pully is loose on a shaft. A jammed switch could need to be replaced or simply cleaned.
I haven't watched the entire video BUT after he talks about getting the blade on properly so it will cut as opposed to having it on backwards ... when he gets his blade on and is centering it ... have a close look at the teeth direction. I believe they are closest to the back of the saw! Oooops ... I believe that is backwards. Viewed from the side you need the blade profile to be ttt bbbbbbbbb not bbbbbbb ttt
Look again. The teeth are correct.
Great info!
Thanks
thanks for tutorial about frets installing🙏
Excellent video! Bookmarked and subscribed. Appreciate your details and easy flow.
thanks for making this, found it super useful
it helped alot ..thank you brother sincerely
This little band saw has turned out to be the best tool purchase I've ever made ruclips.net/user/postUgkx5ZrqmYO2uJq_nuU8TopyWxVzn8vqmPUL Once doing the set-up as per the included suggestions, this table top tool has been my go-to saw ever since (8 months as of this review). There are few things I wouldn't attempt with this saw. It takes up much less space than my table saw yet delivers twice as much punch. I've used it to create slices of wood no thicker than an 1/16th of inch by using the POWERTEC BS900RF Rip Fence. For small shop projects this tool can't be beat.
7 29 23 one biggie i learned was how to position the 2 side glide-blocks with respect to the teeth gullet. my old blade had been running with them both back too far and with a 1mm gap total of slop for the blade to flex side to side. also overall the time it takes for these adjustmtnts is only a matter of minutes once the allen wrenches are found and set out. my '70's sears 12" bandsaw has an inside indicator of tension level for 1/4" to 1/2" widths. very handy. but so far my newer '22 delta 12" one does not. ??? unless i just havent found one yet . so guessing is called for when it comes to twisting that top 4" black knob kudos too for the good lighting and focus of the camera work. plus the nice bk-gnd music. one mistake often made is accidentally applying pressure on the blade from the back-side forward. with the blade then coming off the wheels. and usually causing a crease or two in the metal of the blade. the creases are bent straight by hand and peened a bit to rid the 'bump' . this pressure is via mis - handling tree branches 1/2" +/- squeezed into a 4" bundle by hand to cut them into 8" lengths for easier filling of the 95gal gbg toter. trimming the yard trees goes on weekly during the warm months. every one is a lance-leaf cottonwood variety. they do well here in colorado. providing great shade during these hotter-than-ever summers. they get their water from leakage of a ditch up the street a block. the ditch has dirt banks. and leaks into the adjacent soil and spreads out sideways too by gravity. this variety does not turn into the monster-size cw trees that are native to this country. nor do they make a mess via 'rain' those feather-light 'snow - seeds. and has the habit of putting up root suckers to spread the way aspen trees do. and come late fall can be carefully dug up and re-planted elsewhere in the yard to increase the shade.
Jet bandsaw?
My saw is a Rigid, but they are all similar. Yours may have a different sort of system to adjust a thrust bearing or guides but they all work in the same basic way.
Why are you wearing a face diaper? Hard to understand you with that thing on.
Why we haven’t adopted the metric system I don’t understand.
Me either.
Very useful! Thank you!
Thank you!
Amazing technique you have. So impressive.
nice vid.. i sure miss Porter Cable. i need plain fixed base for my 690. ohh. the "uughghg" sound when tightening is refered to as torque. measured in inch pounds or more common foot pounds. im not being an ass, just helping shed more light upon your great vid. i love routers !!!
Thank you. Straight to the point no useless fluff. Bandsaw cuts like it should now. Post may be old but it still applies.
That was terrific. Super helpful. The tip about the kerfs--💯!! That will be very helpful. Saving this one!!
Excellent video. I like that you can do the grove of the saddle by the drill press. I am impressed. Blessings
This was the best video I have found on band saw setting. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME. Awesome.
one of the better adjustment Video I seed thanks for sharing ,,, and the behind the blade rounding tip thanks for sharing
This was an amazing video and saved me from intense frustration! Thanks!!!
Well done my friend...thank you
I know it's an old video but it helped me greatly. Thank you
Old? I guess that is a relative thing. I learned much of this from books that were older than me and certainly from people older than me and I am old!
Great video, thanks for the simple but thorough guide!
What happened to chapter 23?
Very helpful, many thanks.
Thank you!
9 years later and you are still helping people out. I picked up a generic 3 wheel bandsaw without a manual. I used a wheelbarrow inner tube to make the tires for it! I had everything figured out except the thrust bearing setup - I was right out to lunch with how they were supposed to work. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad this is still being useful for people. Will likely outlast me!
*Perfect band saw for the hobby enthusiast **MyBest.Tools** Easy to set up and square. Had it running in 10 to 15 minutes. Quality of cuts will depend on the quality of the blades.*
Well, here it is 07 Feb 2022 and your video is still helping people like me. Thank you.
Are we there yet?
Você e incrível. Maravilhoso trabalho...
What do you use for steel ? 1075 or 1090 ? Thickness ? 0.008 0.025 ?
Those all sound like good options. There is no magic to it. It's just some stainless steel that I got my hands on. I like the stainless because there's less chance of staining. But good spring steel has its benefits too. I just don't like the idea of high carbon stuff and water and wood all in the same location.
Me too, that was EXACTLY what I was hoping to find. Thank you. Your saw looks almost identical to mine as well.
Anybody know where I can find a blade aligner for my saw?
I wish there were more videos Greg.
Wonderful video. Thanks = )
Fantastic, thanks so much!
