Добавлен 13 фев 2022
Hello sailors, strangers and adventurers at heart! We are two crazy Coconuts by the name of Jay and Kenna. For years we have prepared our 1976 Cheoylee Offshore 41 for her big offshore passage. So far we have sailed from Canada to Costa Rica with every intention of going through the Panama Canal and into the Caribbean waters. Thank you for watching and if you enjoy, subscribe to our salty dream of ours of sailing around the world⛵️🥥
A fast and rough passage to paradise | Sailing Sitka Ep 149
In this episode of sailing sitka, we leave Mata De Cana anchorage in Bahia Culebra to sail 125 NM to Bahia Ballena, here in Costa Rica. On this passage we expeirence wet squalls followed by wind gusts allowing our 1976 Cheoylee sailboat to surf down waves at 10 knots. This nauseating one-night sail was a rough go but it pushed us towards paradise and for that we will be forever grateful. Subscribe if you enjoyed!

In this episode of sailing sitka, we are anchored in San Jaun Del Sur, the southernmost port in Nicaragua. As much as this anchorage was suggested by multiple friends, it turned out to be the second rolliest anchorage we've ever experienced on the pacific coast. In order to sail to Costa Rica we must first attempt to exit out of this country by clearing out... sounds easy but it turned out to b...

Send me a Pic or two of the switch that's cracked, along with your next ,second point you'll be moving, along with a address and we'll get one sent to you.
You’re too kind!! Luckily, we got our friends to bring a couple down for us from Canada when they came to visit! We are now just waiting for a less rainy day to install two new ones 😄 Your generosity is very much appreciated!
Brilliant sail... vigorous seas. Sitka handled them like a champion...
Thank you mate , definitely kept us on our toes or should I say butts 😂
😎😎😎
You cut our tv with your cold nips!
Omg great video guys love your boat it's beautiful we just bought our 69 38 ft choeylee luders sloop this year and moved onto it full time definitely need the info we still have our wooden mast and teak decks also so lots to do lol
That's awesome! You're gonna love living aboard and getting to work on your boat.😊
I have half a dozen LARGE tattoos, but never understood anyone who would tattoo their neck, hands and knuckles. I can only imagine the emotional state it takes for someone to do that. You have to know, and intend to put everyone you will ever meet from that day forward on their guard. You forever sacrifice the benefit of the doubt. Worse, once they realize the magnitude of their mistake, there really isn't anything they can do about it.
You have a lot of feelings about this.
@@vanessamunday My brother owned a chain of tattoo parlors and I worked in one of them for a couple years. Live in that world for a while and you see the damage, the pain. You also tend to meet a lot of very shady people with tattoos on their neck and hands. Tell me you don't tighten up a bit when you meet someone with tattoos like that. It's your fear instinct...and in general you are right to feel it.
The shadiest people I’ve ever met wear suit and ties everyday!
@@sailingsitka I totally agree. I'm also sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention. You should know better than anyone the effect of having such tattoos. I saw it as an educational opportunity. Fair winds Sitka.
@@danthemansmail Dang. I'm so sorry you've had that experience. I'm familiar with the instinct you described, and while it is built into us (for good reason!), our experiences can cause issues in skewing our discretion. So important to be careful about putting people in boxes based on first impressions, even though first impressions help keep us safe and help us make snap judgments when necessary. Regarding heavily tattooed individuals, my experience has been opposite yours, which is kind of a bummer. Snakes are trickier to spot when they blend in ;-)
That a good episode ❤ it
Thank you 😊
❤️🇨🇦
just wondering, does jay talk in his sleep. ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ♡
Not yet 😂
You guys are solids ❤
Thanks brother
Very Nice!
Thank you! 😄
Talk about a serene anchorage! Picture perfect. I must say Kenna you looked pretty badass at the helm!!! Look out world here she comes. #badass #strongwoman
Exactly the kind of anchorage we needed after that sail
yeah fuck those style of switches lol
Great work guys ! Really enjoying the videos
Glad you’re enjoying the journey! Thank you for watching
Wow that was a huge mahi. ?- Do you guys sail with a preventer? Happy New Year- another great video, thanks. Just joined patreon 🎉
Happy New Year 🎉 yes we have a split main sheet so we effectively have a preventer at all times unless we’re deep deep reaching to downwind and in those instance I rig an extra preventer further forward . Thank you so much for joining our Patreon and helping support our journey. Truly appreciated 😊
Love the rough weather! I’m sure you guys could use less of it!!!😂
Yes we are!!! 😂
Strange that the downswitch for the anchor seemed to be in good nick while the upswitch was completely gone. Could it be that the upswitch has to deal with more force, then gets hot and thus speeds up the corrosion? I have no idea. Jay, your thoughts on that please.
The wire off the switch and hold them together until you can get where you can buy a new switch. One is waterproof.
The switches you have are the ones supposed to be used on electric winches, not windlasses.. because they are way more exposed to UV damage….. windlass switches should be 100% covered ,
That was a horrible repair it should have been a sloped edge not a square hole
@@jackdbur if you watch the video we explain why we did the repair that way instead of a 12:1 splice . 1500 miles and still holding strong ⛵️
Omg what a wonderful refreshing vibe here in sailing community. I haven't felt this stoked about a sailing channel in a,long time. Mad rad I found you guys. Happy sails ⛵️
@@BlossomBjornson Thank you so much for the kind words and glad to have you aboard 😊

@@sailingsitka I'm at the La Cruz anchorage for about 3 more weeks. Can't believe the marine growth here!
@@keeldragger La Cruz is WILD for growth! We had full on barnacles with living worms and crabs in side them on our chain!!! Took us hours to clean (with a hammer and screwdriver) but we were also stuck there for 3 months with a broken prop and gooseneck😂 but yes, it’s crazy!
Season's Greetings to Sitka Crew!!!
Happy holidays !!😄

The armchair sailors have no idea what is required to cruise... Skinned knuckles, bang your head. Fridge cuts out and your food goes rotten, were sinking, Bloody rain and everything is wet... And some inconsiderate prick anchors too close... Hahahaha.... They buy the dream, then reality hits. Good source of cheap yachts...
@@colinboniface194 You know it , the brochure dream sailing definitely comes at a cost and some people quit and others roll up their sleeves. Merry Christmas Colin hope you have a great Holiday season.
I guys. Just tried to post a comment using words that were not OK according to the youtube moderator. I guess. So, I rinsed my mouth and keyboard, and I will try again. I love your channel. You guys show it all. The highs and the lows. Jay often uses the saying "it is what it is". That will be the name of my next boat. Now to the tricky part. Most sailing channels are based on fiction. And, sadly enough, they win prices and have 100K+ followers, subscribers and sponsors.
@@gertboerman3666 Thank you mate ! We strive to stay authentic to ourselves and not to sugar coat or amp things up. Plus we’re not a bikini channel and sadly on RUclips that’s not how to play « the game »
@@sailingsitka Apparently "bikini channel" is passed by the moderator. I used a lot of *****'s trying to describe the same bugger. Oh my goodness. Will bugger be OK?

Thank you so much Ron 😄 We will!!
