We’ve been full time cruisers for going on 6 years and your description is spot on. Everything is so much harder than anyone realizes. All said and done we’ll never go back to land life, But the constant rain can be very depressing. Keep on keeping on, looking forward to meeting you in an anchorage one day. Love the vids!!!!!
Thank you for the comment . It’s good to know we aren’t the only ones . The highest highs come with the lowest lows but in the end I wouldn’t change a thing .
I cruised for 2 years before I was forced to catch rainwater. I was at an island that didn't have running water. Everybody lived off rain they caught off their rusty roofs. I realized if they can live like that, I can live by catching water off the deck, so I made a few small adjustments to make all water run to the cockpit where I put a whole on each gunwale and ran a hose to the tank from those fittings. Never had to worry about water again. Lived off rain water for 6 years.
You have lots of room there. A neat little trick....pull in your chain a about 60 feet, tie a long line to your anchor chain, and take that to a winch in the cockpit, then let the anchor chain out. either pull in or let out the line to adjust it so you are pointing into the swell.
You guys get all the fun ! Yeah, you say it sooooo right; it's dry and sunny here in Arizona and I feel kind of bad for ya'all. But, I know and you know that better, better days are coming down the way ! That doesn't help Jay's back after dealing with the anchor chain or it doesn't help with the frustration of small leaks after not having any rain for How Long !? And I know you guys know that there's many who have come before you and many will come after you. I've watched many, many sailing you tube couples and most have quit or, at least, quit doing videos. I'm not sure how you keep doing the videos. All I can say is somebody has to do it and it may as well be you.........lucky at times, not so much at other times. Keep the faith, sunny days and great places and anchorages are positively coming your way ! Thank you so very much for sharing and take care because you are quite the team ! Go team !
Love, love your channel. You guys keep it real for sure and it’s much appreciated by this wanna be cruiser. Telling it like it is and not showing your arses off, although you are good looking humans!😊. Merry Christmas to Sailing Sitka and the crew.
@@keeldragger La Cruz is WILD for growth! We had full on barnacles with living worms and crabs in side them on our chain!!! Took us hours to clean (with a hammer and screwdriver) but we were also stuck there for 3 months with a broken prop and gooseneck😂 but yes, it’s crazy!
I have used in the past to temporary seal small water leaks above the water line, is the soft wax from a toilet bowl seal. If it doesn't break your back, it will make you stronger.
I guys. Just tried to post a comment using words that were not OK according to the youtube moderator. I guess. So, I rinsed my mouth and keyboard, and I will try again. I love your channel. You guys show it all. The highs and the lows. Jay often uses the saying "it is what it is". That will be the name of my next boat. Now to the tricky part. Most sailing channels are based on fiction. And, sadly enough, they win prices and have 100K+ followers, subscribers and sponsors.
@@gertboerman3666 Thank you mate ! We strive to stay authentic to ourselves and not to sugar coat or amp things up. Plus we’re not a bikini channel and sadly on RUclips that’s not how to play « the game »
@@sailingsitka Apparently "bikini channel" is passed by the moderator. I used a lot of *****'s trying to describe the same bugger. Oh my goodness. Will bugger be OK?
Don't know what kind of sealant you used, but I've never had anything leak, even after 8 years and 40K miles, but I re-sealed everything with BoatLife LifeSeal (not LifeCaulk). It doesn't get hard and crack like all others do. It also holds things very well so you don't need screws. The problem with using screws is that screws expand at a different rate than fiberglass, so they tend to leak. Of course, I'm just talking about hatches and port lights, not things that need to be thru-bolted like travelers and blocks and stuff like that.
@@sailingsitka The thing about Lifeseal that pisses people off is you have to keep it in a frig, even when it's still in the package and it's hard to find tubes that aren't already cured in the tropics. So before you buy, squeeze them to make sure they are still soft.
Silicone spray on hatch seals to rejuvenate. I also installed a windlass hand control in bow with a switch to switch control for a remote at helm when single hanging
Hope BC here. Been following you online for awhile and hope to follow you physically in the future in our own boat. Just curious, and I'm sure you have solved this problem by now, but for me and others that have a similar windless issue, can you reverse the wires on the down side to operate in the up direction? Hope that's not a stupid question.
@@Erndog67 Hi guys , thanks for following our journey. Not a stupid question, and yes you are correct you can just reverse the polarity of the wires to change a down switch into an up switch .
