Welcome to my RUclips channel!!! A couple of years ago I started setting up a Poor Man's GMRS Repeater and it has worked pretty well. Me and a handful of my friends are going full-bore and setting up a true GMRS repeater. We are in Medina County, TX just West of San Antonio and we would like to share with you some of the things we are doing along with things we have already done that worked well and some things that may not have worked as well as we would have liked. This RUclips thing is new to all of us, so bear with us while our first few videos will probably SUCK but we promise to get better as we learn the ropes! Your suggestions on content and feedback will be greatly appreciated along the way. If you are in the Medina County or far West San Antonio area, feel free to look me up on MyGMRS.com. My callsign is WRJC281. Join our Facebook Group MedinaCountyTexasGMRS for other news as well. We look forward to seeing you on the air or RUclips!!!
Radioddity Choyong A8W FM Internet Radio - Kinda Cool!!!
Here is the first internet radio I have ever played with. I don't think it can do anything I can't do from my phone but for folks like me who don't like a lot of apps on their phone, this might be kinda cool.

UPDATE Radioddity GMRS DB40G Review
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Ok... So I stand corrected on a few things BUT Radioddity should have included a better user manual and it would have helped me, or anybody buying this radio, figure out a few things. As I mentioned in my last video and in videos past, I don't like to have to sit and figure things out on my own nor do a lot of us have the time to do so. Take a look and let me know whatcha think! radioddity.refr...

Tidradio H8 Compensation - What are they offering???
Sort of cute. I bought a Grace internet radio many years ago, it's easy to use, has preset stations with favorite music from 80's, 90's, 2000, by genre, etc. great sound, low level RCA output, replaceable, rechargeable battery, much larger, color display. I'm not one to use a phone on apps for hours so it's still relevant. Thanks for sharing.
It sounds like the one you bought may have some much better features than this one. I think I'd like this one if it were just a bit easier to use. Thanks for watching!
What a bizarre product. A mobile internet radio that needs a static WiFi, or mobile WiFi from a device that already does internet radio. 🙄 I winder if it calls back to China with the detais of your wifi password?
I've wondered the same thing about many of their products. LOL
Will it run from an AC adapter?
It can be plugged in to a charger while using it.
Hello, just received my first grms radio the one in this video. Enjoyed your video I have a lot to learn yet I live in San Antonio .
Awesome! If you need any assistance, just let me know. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the review. It looks like a useless china item.
LMAO.... Not disagreeing!
Well I'm glad you did a follow up. Didn't want to buy it because it wasn't back lit but now I think I will.
To me it's very dim compared to other radios. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for this helpful review. All said and shown. I've just ordered one and looking foreward with excitement to arrive this HT 73s DG1VJ
I think you will enjoy it!
Wow a local to me and this just popped up in my timeline. Just down the street from castroville and looking to get into gmrs and murs
Feel free to email me if you'd like to meet for coffee ☕️. Don@mctx-react.org
What antenna you recommend
The stock antennas are decent but I prefer the Wouxun High Gain GMRS antenna. The are under 15 bucks the last time I checked.
Will the h3 receive fire and police also?
Depends on the frequency they are using.
Thanks
Hmm why only the supplied USBC? I already used another cord seemed to be ok glad I got the 2 battery pack lol but so far so good. This is a awesome little radio love it
I agree! I use mine daily.
I live down the street from Medina ..by Harlan High School. I just bought this radio…if I can get one of your channel’s?
Our freqs are 462.600 rx, 467.600 tx and 141.3 tone in and out. Hope to hear you on there!
Whats a good handheld for a cruise and island city. I want to keep in touch with my wife while i golf. Ill be 10miles away from her.
Retevis has some nice, relatively inexpensive handhelds that kick 10 watts that should work depending on terrain in your area.
@@MCTGMRS78009 oh wow. 10 watts, cool. I'll check them out. You don't recommend Rocky Talkie? They have a 5 watt which I see all over RUclips.
Shame on Radioddity. That manual is beyond lame. So is the CPS.
Totally agreed! Thanks for watching!
Great overview! I just now ordered one-to be delivered tomorrow.
SWEEEEEEET! Let us know how you like it.
@@MCTGMRS78009 - As usual, Amazon sent me an update letting me know the shipment has been delayed, and I should get it tomorrow. As soon as I get it, I’ll charge the battery while reading the manual. Then I will go ahead and apply for my FCC GMRS license. This is new and exciting territory for me!
I hit the Shenandoah575 repeater from 24 miles away with a Nagoya NA-711 antenna.
Niiiiiiice! Sounds like you have a good setup there!
Us the Bluetooth feature enabled by default? How to completely shut it down?
You can turn it on and off in the menu.
what brand antenna do you recommend for the H3?
I think it really depends on the application you're using it for. I use a stubby for the ht I have around the house but keep a high gain antenna on the ht I keep in the car.
@@MCTGMRS78009 Thank you
Will do! Thanks!
Mine works so good my school uses them
I could see these radios being great for school use. Simple and easy to use so you can hand them to anybody.
I have the RT 22 walkie-talkies I love walkie-talkies
I haven't had the chance to test those yet. Are they frs only?
how much range do you get with different wattage ?
That really just depends... what kind of antenna do you have? How high is your antenna? What type of terrain is around you? What kind of line loss do you have?
@@MCTGMRS78009 Being equal......1 watt vs 5 watts same antenna, same height, etc etc
Hi there if I wanted to use this radio on ham channels what antenna should I get Thanks
They should all be shipped with a multi-band antenna. Make sure you read the item description prior to purchase.
@@MCTGMRS78009 Thank you
Looks like a pretty darn nice radio for the price. I think I’m going to pick up a couple and use for repeaters. Can you use a parrot repeater for these in case I wanted to spread them across a wide area instead of linking together?
You will need to check the connector that your "parrot" repeater comes with. The simplex repeaters I have used aren't supplied with the pin type connector this radio has. I am doubting the limited programming this unit allows would let you set this up as simplex repeater. I would do some checking before you go out and buy them.
Do you need to have a radio license to use these?
Yes, in the US you do. Not sure about other countries.
Just got a GMRS PRO and already made it my travel radio. I like to travel with it and at least one of my UV-9Gs.
Awesome! Glad you like it! Once you get used to them, they aren't bad radios!
Very interesting I just got my radio and still learning on how to operate it and thanks to your video I have learned a little bit more about the radio. And I just realized Medina Texas I used to live there in Hondo Texas Man do I miss it there
How cool! If you ever come to visit, let me know! Always down for coffee and conversation ☕️!
i am running a retivis gmrs repeater at 4100 ft,3 100 watt panels,2 deep cycle marine batteries,4 folded dipoles for the antenna,it covers about 100 miles in the san juaquin valley, and pretty good coverage in the foothills and sierras, the retivis does,nt draw much, the panels and batteries keep up pretty good, two years ago it got snowed in,batteries failed,i have all the panels mounted vertical now so hopefully snow won,t be a issue, thanks for the video
Sounds like an awesome system! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Why people think GMSR is a hobby I'll never know. It's a utilitarian radio service. Whatever!
Interesting take on it.
Great video!
Ty!!! 🙏
Trust the chickens! 😅😅
🤣🤣🐓
Hello, It defaults to Upgraded Mic when you click the info tab, the standard mic is 6.99 & two upgraded are 19.99
I figured that's what it was... always hate that "starts at" stuff.
Comet #CA-712EFC 9.8dBi Gain, put it on a mountai.
Heck yeah!
Does it work with others frs radios or with retevis only?
It will but I currently can't program the radio for testing. I'm waiting for Retevis to email me back to work thru the issues.
How many watts is it ?
It's supposed to be 5 but I haven't gotten it on the meter yet.
@@MCTGMRS78009 oh okay I heard of one they need that does like 9 watts? I'd love to have a portable that does like 10 or 15 or more watts I don't care of size would be nice to have the power on GMRS
il y a 3 puissance haute env 9Watts
Why didn't they send me one?
🤣🤣🤣 I'll ask them!
Do these blow up?
🤣💥🤣 No Icoms here sir!
Late to this review, Donald. I agree 100% that the manual, if you can call it that, is woefully inadequate. I have a DB-20G too and that manual is 28 pages. OTOH, the radio is rated at 40 watts but bench tested at over 50 watts. with good audio quality. So manual aside, it appears to be worth the money based on performance. A basic radio for sure but with powerful guts.
So, I'm going to have to do another update on this radio. I gave it to my son to use and with just a few months of use the radio is cooked. SWR on his antenna were showing 1:1.3 and the radio worked fine but then he noticed he wasn't getting out here recently. We put it on the Bird and it's only pumping about .5 watt out. More info to come.
Hello ' this is John ,WSEJ563" Question what would be a good coax to use for a GMRS Midland 400TX that I'm using for a base
Midland sells a really good grade coax on their website or Amazon and I have yet to ever have issues with it. It comes with an attached mag mount and the 259 connector is actually an adapter with can be removed for easy pass-through when running the cable.
If you have a windows 10 or 11 computer, this is as easy as pie to program. All you have to do is download the retevis programming software, and your good to go. Trouble is, not many learn how to use the software which is as easy as any HT using chirp. It took me less than 10 minutes to figure it out, and another 20 minutes to fully program.
So, I think the word "easy" is subjective. In personally believe CHIRP is more "basic", requires less clicks and the terms used are more universal versus the software from Retevis on this radio. Thanks for your feedback, it's always welcome!
Herea my question , if i have a repeater that has 50 watts ouput and the duplexer is a 50 watt but obvious can only run about half that so it doesn’t get into receiver couldnt i just put a 100 watt diplexer inline so i can run repeater at full 50 watts ?
All duplexers will reduce your Rx output. You would need a stronger output on the radio to overcome the loss. You can also use a higher gain antenna to help circumvent the loss as well.
Meant Tx power.
@@MCTGMRS78009 yes but what im trying to figure out can i run the repeater at full 50 watts if i use a bigger duplexer ?
@@Knarf14 you are going to lose power with any duplexer.
@@MCTGMRS yea i know that but is it the same amount of loss , my goal is to run the repeater at 50 watts and hope to get out at least 35-40 watts out cause now only having a 50 watt duplexer in line you cant run the repeater at 50 watts cause the tx bleeds into the rx so you need to turn down the tx power of repeater so im hoping with a bigger duplexer it can handle the full 50 watts with out pushing the limits of the duplexer
Mine doesn't doe that. I had no issues at all.
Interesting! Mine was a little wonky I think.
Mine never worked right out of the box
REALLY!? Did they get it replaced for you?
Got about halfway through this... the no backlit buttons on the handset, no naming of channels, and when I found out you can't program it with CHIRP..; nope. Don't need this radio.
It was a real turn off for me as well. I did find out its back lit, but very dim.
Great video. Which antenna were you using to test range?
Thank you! It was just a mag-mount gmrs wire antenna, nothing fancy or high gain.
Great video. How did you program the reverse frequencies and can any handheld Gmrs radio do that?
Thanks for watching! A GMRS radio should not be able to do that. But those good ol' Baofengs will. Lol
Thanks for the review. Glad I saw it before I purchased.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏
Thx for this! it also seem very solid in build! 73 Levi in Sweden - one question: what is used as datacabel?
It's the standard K type cable on this radio.
@@MCTGMRS78009 thanks!
I got the iPhone version and I had trouble to find it, as not much information online or the information book. No links or anything. That what lets it down. Otherwise I’m like the radio. Bluetooth software doesn’t show what to use. But when you find it i found it interesting. I love technology and communication, pmr 446 work well. And I have a few different radio for if day out with my family. It’s a learning curve but it adds understanding as mostly same as other radio with some interesting features on it. Thanks for the video i enjoyed watching it.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad you like it!
Yagi directional antenna from Amazon there for the frequencies specific for gmrs they have different sizes that have different dbi ratings The bigger the antenna the more the DBI so the more energy you're putting towards range or focusing in one direction directional antennas of course you get more power more range out of them I have been able to hit repeaters 37 mi on the other side of Tuscaloosa County in West Alabama and it's very wooded here and hilly I have a 30 ft antenna outside and just say it works great I can pick up all over the county very large County at that I paid like 40 bucks for it it was the 7 dbi 400 to 470 MHz UHF Yagi directional antenna
I will be looking into those. Thanks for the feedback!
