Looks like Joan Meier already addressed this directly, here is the abstract from her refutation: "Jennifer Harman and Demosthenes Lorandos purport to have identified numerous methodological flaws in our 2019 study of family court outcomes in cases involving abuse and alienation allegations (“FCO study”; Meier et al., 2019). At least half of the supposed flaws they itemized relate to one claim - that they were unable to access our methods and data. They treat the claimed lack of public access as evidence that our study is unreliable, while speculating about other potential flaws. Yet we note - and they acknowledge - that most of the methodological information they sought was in fact available before publication of their article. This article responds to and refutes Harman and Lorandos’ exaggerated and unfounded condemnation of our study. In addition to pointing out that the claimed lack of information would not be a methodological flaw even if true, we explain that their other criticisms are speculative, incorrect, or insignificant. We appreciate this opportunity to clarify that the important findings of the FCO study are valid and should be taken seriously by the courts and those interested in the fairness and safety of custody decisions when there are allegations of abuse and alienation."

Notice how he doesn't actually explain why Joan Meier's study is junk...What exactly is wrong with the study? That's a major red flag. I've read the study and it's results are alarming. This guy is just another alienation zealot who probably gets financial kickbacks from reunification camps. Alienating behaviors are certainly a real thing, no one in the domestic violence field would ever deny that. What concerns Meier and other folks in the field is how alienation is being used as a cross claim, primarily as a response to accusations of abuse. This is a well known phenomenon, its why a lot of these alienation cases are being overturned at the appellate level. It's also why Kayden's law and other similar legislation are popping up all over the country. Its basically an open secret at this point that the alienation argument is a go to tactic for abusers(primarily abusive fathers) to further silence their victims.

I am happy to see that this professor understands that we must first rule out estrangement before we can call it alienation. This is extremely important, because its often the case that the child has a very legitimate reason for rejecting a parent that has nothing to do with being coached. However, what we are seeing in courts is that they are generally terrible at making this distinction. In practice, what is happening is that the abusive party claims that the protective parent is "alienating" the child and that this is an explanation for the Childs negative behavior. Rather than the abusive parent's own behavior. And in many cases, judges are awarding custody to the abusive party under the pretense that they are protecting the child from alienation, when there was never alienation going on in the first place. It's absolutely crucial that judges are not overlooking perfectly valid explanations for why a child is a rejecting a parent - whether that be abuse or prolonged absence from the home. Alienation should be the absolute last resort from a diagnostic standpoint, but unfortunately many courtrooms are overlooking evidence that would disprove alienation.

In Spain, there's even a law forbiding PA .It is urgent to stop PA, but spanish alienated children and targeted parents just don't exist, by law. No attention on this damaging pyscological abuse.

I can’t talk or see my daughter the courts left it up to her. Which was the courts worst decision because now she won’t see me at all she has the say she doesn’t want her dad mad at her or her step mom I just want to hug her and kiss her and tell her I’m always here for her. I know she know that but will she use it if needed I don’t think so because she’s afraid of her dad! Please god give me the strength to get through this !!

Stepmom here. The lawyers in our state won't take our case. We spoke with an attorney last year and she was convinced it would go nowhere. We would spend thousands of dollars, months, or years fighting, and end up right where we started. We have witnessed firsthand, the stepdad saying horrible things about us in front of the kids. One of my SKs harmed herself as a teenager and refused to speak with us for 2 years. We found out after she was an adult what happened. Parental alienation is abuse to both the child and the targeted parent. I fully believe if my husband was dealing with this abuse alone he would no longer be here. There is nothing more painful than watching the person you love lose contact with their living children. Please keep doing this! Please keep fighting for the parents and children subjected to this abuse!

Not every child that refuses to see a parent has been alienated by the other. When my parents divorced, I shut out my dad for at least a couple years because I knew he left for some younger woman. My parents never fought out loud, there was never any physical abuse, and us kids didn't know they were going to split until the day he bailed. My mother defended him vehemently, but I didn't pay attention to that. I was furious that someone could be so selfish. Of course, as I grew older, I came to realize that people grow apart, fall out of love, and eventually I accepted it. I love my dad, but I'll never forget the hurt my mom felt.

The one parent works to remove the other parent from the needs pyramid. The value chain. Over time, whatever the kid wanted from the parent, is replaced with other activities and people as substitutes. The child is taught that if they still need that other parent, they FAILED. They feel like a FAILURE and a BURDEN whenever they even barely talk to / acknowledge the other parent. After the parent brainwashes the kid for years... The kid eventually believes the lies. The kid believes the other parent is a loser, failure, deadbeat, idiot, jerk, bully, whatever it takes. Lie.

Very few Parents don’t know how to be proper parents. It’s a revolving door of one narcissist leaving a subsequent generation with that legacy to continue on to the next generation of offspring
