X530 200 Hour Service - Oil - Oil Filter - Spark Plugs - Air Filter - Fuel Filter
Просмотров 20221 день назад
A family member asked me to complete the 200 hour service on their 2012 Deere X530 so I thought that would be a good opportunity to make a video. Pretty straight forward with no major issues but I do share several tips and tricks throughout. I still need to complete the transaxle fluid and filter change but that will be a later date and separate video.
Log Splitter Repair. Replacing Coupling Insert. Easy...
Просмотров 139Месяц назад
A couple weeks ago I was splitting firewood with my Cub Cadet 27-ton log splitter manufactured by MTD when it stopped. The motor was running fine but I had no hydraulic power. I found that there was an issue with the coupling between the motor and hydraulic pump which is what I look at in this video.

Nice job on the directions! Took less than 15 minutes following with the video and taking pictures to help remember in spring. Great job!
Glad you found it helpful and thanks for taking the time to comment! 🙂
Great video. I have a 590 and need to watch this every fall so I can remember how to do it.
Glad it will come in handy. I just removed the deck again yesterday to put on my snowblower on for the season. I had only done it once before when I made the video on the new tractor. I actually had to reference my own video to remember how to do it. Apparently I have the memory of a goldfish lol. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@HobbyUniverseOutdoors Same here. The first 2 times I dropped the deck I had to jack up the front axle to get clearance. But this time it slid right out. It is a little tricky to pull the lift arm down without weight on it but getting them up and out of the way was key.
big Deal , try a Doe and a Buck half a mile down the same road 😜😜😜😜😜
Excellent! Many Thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to comment! 🙂
My dealership didn't set mine up correctly. Had only 2 "lift. Found that adjusting the lift bars are easier before installation. Measured from nut to end of the lift bar (ballparked it). Got a little over 5" now, level was close but able to nudge it level when installed.
I might have to mess with mine again. I’m still not happy with lift height. Maybe I’ll try again before reinstalling in the next week or so. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
Good video. I have the same setup with exception that my blower is green...a 2024 model. Last winter I had an issue with the blower controls mounted on that bracket. The knob would loosen up just a little bit and it effected the chute position handle. That allowed it to hit against the side of the tractor if I wasn't careful. I'm not sure how high my blower raises but I'll be sure to check. Time to install it all again for North Eastern NY. First week of November and ski resorts are open!
I hear you. I’m in North west PA and I’m sure the snow is not too far out. If you’re talking about that plastic knob, mine has one of those star type lock washers behind it and has never come loose. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
Great video, huge help for a DIY guy. Thank You.

When I change my oil on my X590, I run the right side up on a 2x4 just enough of a tilt to help the oil come out alittle better. Once again, very good video, lots of detail which I like. Most video's don't do that . Oh by the way, tell your friend to blow that tractor off. One of my pet peeve's. Thank's again for great video.
I appreciate taking the time to comment. I understand about the grass etc. all over that thing. I hit mine with an air hose after every mowing. Even wax my tractors sometimes so the stuff blows off easier.
Had same issue with my new 2024 X354 tractor. The manual is copyright 2017 with the old yellow deck. John Deere should be embarrassed. Thanks for posting !!!
Yep, the manuals are not up to date on the new ones. Would be great if they could take the time to do that. Thanks for watching. 👍
Very good informative video.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate the feedback. 🙂
I thought you said it blew up
Mine did. It’s still parked in my barn waiting for me to work on it. This is a different one and belongs to a family member. Once winter sets in and I’m stuck inside, I’ll be tearing down the engine on mine and will make a video of that as well.
@@HobbyUniverseOutdoorswas it the valve guides?
Not sure, haven’t taken it apart yet. It feels like it’s completely locked up.
Ok@@HobbyUniverseOutdoors
Good video, thank you, I have the same tiller for my 3039R JD and it works great. Maybe do a maintenance video on the tiller next?
That’s a good idea about the maintenance video for the tiller. I’ll work on that down the road. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
How many hours were on the x530?
I can’t remember. 😎 It’s in storage but I will be picking it up late this week. I’m going to pull the motor to dissect to see if it’s worth rebuilding. I’m planning to make a video of that. I’ll reply again here when I confirm the hours but I know it wasn’t a lot. I think the previous owner didn’t take care of it.
My forks are my most used attachment on my tractor. As you said it’s amazing how many uses you find for them once you have them! Back saver for sure. Great content. Subscribed. 👍
I couldn’t agree more. Literally using mine right now to hold a stack of treated lumber off the ground so I don’t have to bend over when picking through pieces. Little things like that you would never think of until you have them. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and subscribing. 🙂
That piece is the rubber isolator that connects the engine to the pump it goes between the three winged things to connect them. It’s a normal part to wear out. 👊
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’ve never encountered a coupling like this before. I guess that little rubber spider thing is something I should definitely keep on hand. I bought two so I would have a spare. I did get it installed and functioning again and will have a video out on that in the near future. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. 👍
@@HobbyUniverseOutdoors it’s an old way to connect two drive shafts in a way that allows for slight misalignment while reducing vibration and it can act as a safety mechanism if the driveline is overloaded. Definitely worth keeping a spare one around for long term reliability. 👊
Great concise video. Thank you very much!
Thank thank you for taking the time to comment and provide feedback. I’m glad you found it useful. 🙂
Thanks for the video. The tire pressure on my new x590 was off from the dealership and the deck wasn’t close to level. I am not sure what the setup fee was all about. I will let them know.
Yep, that sounds familiar. I think tire pressure is often overlooked. I know I never paid much attention to it until recently. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
Mine does that too! It’s slower in reverse
Glad mine isn’t the only one! Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
Always go 1 notch higher in the front so they don't dig up your lawn when turning. I have been using a JD tractor for the last 30 years and this is the best practice. I guarantee with a damp or even dry lawn you will destroy it using your method because I have used your method and it failed!
I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I’ve also been using this method for a couple decades and I haven’t had any issues. Maybe you have a really hilly lawn? Either way, I think it’s a good idea to adjust as needed to fit individual needs. It’s all good. 👍
Great Video as always. Very good detail. Can't wait for Wisconsin Winter to try. thx
Not a huge fan of snow, but I certainly don’t mind the excuse to use my tractor.
Thank you for sharing this project. I appreciated the tip on using the curl function to chip away/saw at the larger roots until you break through. Patience and persistence are key, with these smaller but very capable machines, and you did a great job of showing both. I have been in the market for a SCUT and the 2025r is top of my list. I was planning on getting the BXpanded thumb and now really liking the idea of the ripper too.
I don’t use The Ripper as much as I thought I would, but when I need it, it’s great to have. And the thumb is a definite must have in my opinion.
Appreciate your video. Put the part number below for easy reference..
Thanks for taking the time to comment. That’s a great idea. I’ll add the part number to the video description. 👍
Hey! I've got a question. What oil do you use while snowplowing or snowblowing in the winter? I just wanna know.
Most times I run 10W-40 but in the winter, I replace it with 5W-20. I’m not sure if it’s necessary or not. It’s just something I do. I have actually run at least one winter with 10W-40 and had no issues.
@@HobbyUniverseOutdoors Do you by any chance know if using SAE 30 is fine?
Thank you
No problem. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
best video I’ve seen yet on getting those decks out. useful and concise……thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate the feedback. 👍
Update… watched your videos one more time and I removed the deck, changed both mower belts, removed and sharpened the blades, greased it quick, re-installed the deck, and leveled it too all in an hour. Was one a roll so I also changed the oil (factory filter was a SOB to get off just like yours) and added fluid to the transaxle. Will change at 50 hours (mine only has 37 hours). Thanks again for all your great videos!
I’m glad you got some use out of the videos and thanks again for commenting. 🙂. I’ll be doing a 200 hour service on a friends x530 in the next couple weeks. I’ll be prepared with a filter wrench this time…

Well done informative video for removing the backhoe. The reverse (reinstalling the backhoe) would be a good video as well. Thanks for making this.
Thanks for commenting. I do plan on making a backhoe installation video once I get some rototilling done. 👍
Great video! Cannot over-state the importance of CORRECT tire pressure! (I learned this the hard way)
I agree. I don’t think a lot of people pay attention to that. Glad you liked the video. 👍
JD should have made that plastic guard shorter! I remove it. I made a small trough from scrap piece of aluminum siding and slide that in under filter…keeps oil off the frame…all drips into container.
Good idea about making a trough. I may have to try that for next time.
Yes, my tranny fluid went down to the mark after first few hours of use. I contacted dealer. Yes, they ought to tell new owner to expect that. Not good access to the fill plug either. The annoying thing I found is that the deck creeps down when not in use sitting in the shed. I contacted dealer. They said display models in showroom did same thing! I’m concerned that there is a leaky valve that will cause trouble later. Mine starts good in cold; mine stored in an outbuilding. I have the mulch control option on my deck. This does a good job. Mulches the grass and the leaves! I find that the baffles that this is made of are easily bent, the gate has bent on mine several times. I’ve had to bend back in place. I have a few surface roots and once hit a small stub of a stump. Ought to be made out of heavier metal. The blade hits the gate when bent. Right now it is held open about a quarter inch with a wire on it. Imagine that…a baling wire job on a new John Deere. I told dealer. It does burn gas! Gas mileage is not good. The transaxle lock is a good deal. Has gotten me out of tight places. Don’t try to turn with it on! Takes a little bit for it to go out of gear. Goes out faster if you back up a bit. I think the lever for raising the deck is unhandy. I think the reverse safety switch is unhandy…press two buttons in order to back up…find the buttons while I have the limbs of a bush hanging in my face! Overall, I like the tractor. Power steering is great. Tilt wheel is handy. High back seat is comfy, but can’t see the hitch. Can’t reach back and turn on fertilizer spreader.
I appreciate the comments. The mower deck or in my case in the winter the snow blade or snowblower drifting down while sitting is not unusual. I’ve had a few different X500 series tractors and it’s common on all of them. I also have a 2025R and all of the hydraulics on that will also, settle in a short period of time. I don’t think it’s specific to John Deere. I thought about the mulching kit, but haven’t done it yet. I’m going to see how this thing does chopping up leaves this fall and then I’ll decide from there.
My 2015 X590 starts right up in the winter . Mine is also in a unheated unattached garage. To change the oil filter , JD makes a cap wrench that fits right over the filter. I put JD arm rests on my seat and from looking at the side of yours they can be added to the seat. They make the ride more comfortable while mowing. I need to see if I can easily change out the seat base for the newer style like yours.
Glad to hear about the cold weather starts. I really don’t anticipate any issues but it’s my first time with the fuel injection on one of these things. I was looking at those armrest kits. I have armrests on my other tractor and miss having them on this new one. Definitely something I’ll be adding in the near future.
Bought the same spinner, have been using it for 9 months now and I love it.
I’m definitely happy with mine. Makes a huge difference with all the trees and bushes I have to cut around every time I mow.
The 590 is looking good. My 2023 580 is at 48 hrs about ready for its second oil change ( 1st at 8 hrs)and first tranns fluid change. My trans fluid also went to the fill line after the first hour of use. They should tell us that. I love the seat and power steering.
I agree. Dealer’s should include a quart and a heads-up. Wouldn’t be a big deal if you were expecting it. And definitely agree on the seat and power steering. I have a lot of trees to mow around so the steering is much appreciated. 👍
I forgot to ask, have you thought about using full synthetic oil? I made the switch and I’ve noticed engine seems to running smoother and less consumption after 25 hours. Thoughts?
I run it in my truck but never tried it in a tractor or mower. Maybe food for thought on my next oil change.
Great Video, I’ve changed my X590 oil just like you have shown. One thing i have done different to get the most oil out was to lay two 2x4’s down on right side and drive tractor on them tilting tractor allowing more oil to come out.
That’s a good tip. I will be doing a 200 hour service on a X530 in the coming weeks and I might try that. I’ll be making a video and will include that to see what happens. 👍
That plastic thing that gets in the way of the oil filter is attached with two screws. Easy to get the plastic off.
@@davidcaughman4044 I appreciate the tip. I’ll definitely look at that next time. I change the oil. 👍
Any chance you remember the bolts you used to attach the shroud to the gear box that holds the legs on it? Ours came with none. I haven’t figured out how to attach the shroud that holds the legs.
That’s a bummer it didn’t come with those. I don’t remember the size but can check this weekend when I get home.
@@HobbyUniverseOutdoorsi can take the gear box over to ace and see if I can match a bolt up. I used it without the shroud today
I ended up bending the shroud on mine. You can kind of see it in the video. It’s bent down a little bit. Still works, but at some point, I need to take it off and bend it back into shape.
@@HobbyUniverseOutdoorsthat makes sense.

You’ll have to let me know what you think of it after you’ve used it a few times. I don’t have any experience with that model.
Currently shopping for an X580/590 to replace my 12 yr old husqvarna. Good video!
Thanks. I was literally cutting my grass with my X590 when you made this comment lol. One thing to watch for if you get a new one is the transaxle fluid. Mine has about seven hours on it now and when I looked at it, it appeared to be empty. Apparently that’s not unusual for the fluid to fill voids, etc., as it gets its first few hours of use. I would recommend looking at it hourly for the first 10 hours to make sure it doesn’t drop.
I'll keep you posted if/when I pick one up. Thanks
Need to change out a PTO clutch on a X590. Do you have any experience changing one of those out, what im i getting my self into doing this?
I have never messed with the PTO on any of the X500 series tractors. Someone else commented that it may not actually be the engine on my 530 that is the issue, but possibly the PTO. That’s where I will start once I’m ready to begin working on it. Unfortunately, can’t help you out with your 590.
I have a JD LA165 and when leveling the deck it said to drop the front slightly (1-2 counterclockwise turns) so the blades don’t cut the grass twice as it causes the grass to turn brown and uses extra horsepower. This must not be an issue with the X590?
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I have an LA 115 that is similar to your 165. You’re correct, on those tractors you do want to slightly lower the front of the deck once the standard leveling process is completed. That avoids double cutting which is bad for the grass and uses more horsepower. On the X500 series that use a leveling gage, that slight tip is built into the measuring point on the front of the deck. If done properly, the blades will be slightly lower when measured in the front. Now, with all that being said, I’ve never verified that. I might actually do that to see what I find. It’s a good point.
Once again you provided Great Information with this comparison. I enjoy the detail that you go into. Great help, Great video. Looking forward to when you tare down the x530 engine. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. Again, I always appreciate the feedback. 🙂
