  • Even though John Deere states first X590 oil change at 100-hours, I decided to complete mine at 10-hours. I explain my reasoning in the video. Spoiler alert, the oil filter was WAY too tight. I didn't have my oil wrench handy so I had to get creative. In the end, the job was complete but not without a bit of a struggle.

Great Video, I’ve changed my X590 oil just like you have shown. One thing i have done different to get the most oil out was to lay two 2x4’s down on right side and drive tractor on them tilting tractor allowing more oil to come out.

That’s a good tip. I will be doing a 200 hour service on a X530 in the coming weeks and I might try that. I’ll be making a video and will include that to see what happens. 👍

JD should have made that plastic guard shorter! I remove it. I made a small trough from scrap piece of aluminum siding and slide that in under filter…keeps oil off the frame…all drips into container.

Good idea about making a trough. I may have to try that for next time.

I forgot to ask, have you thought about using full synthetic oil? I made the switch and I’ve noticed engine seems to running smoother and less consumption after 25 hours. Thoughts?

I run it in my truck but never tried it in a tractor or mower. Maybe food for thought on my next oil change.
