I really enjoyed season 1 and cant wait for season 2. Having said that, I think they did not manage to portray zoro‘s character accurately imo (at least at this point). He comes across as too cool and mysterious, while lacking the simple minded and often kind of choleric aspects of his personality.

The only bad part about this movie is how it ends with anal sex for some reason and I'll stand by that.

Oda normally hides secrets and foreshadowing in comedy so ur on the right track for nami actually could be powerful. The reason he could not answer bcoz oda has yet to reveal much about nami's origins. That's all.

35:15 A really important thing Oda shows through Luffy is that a character's personality does not need to have a drastic change for said character to have grown immensely, and I think Oda did a wonderful job showing that with Luffy, because when you compare today's luffy to romance Dawn Luffy, he acts the same and IS the good old Luffy we know while still being completely different, because despite everything that happens Luffy will always be Luffy, it kinda makes you feel like you've grown with him and the crew. The biggest trait showing how much he evolved though is through his role as a captain, but as shown in the east blue saga he always had that quality in the first place. Anyways sorry for the rant Luffy has been my favorite character since I started OP years ago thus my passion x) Thank you guys for these wonderful videos as usual and hope you continue to enjoy it !!! You don't need to be physically strong to stop people from fighting. You just have to be someone they don't want to hurt. Nami effectively disarms the crew because they won't fight her for real and will hold back when she's around to protect her, kinda like anlittle sister, as other commentors have said

Never seen your videos before. I am not going to watch 33 minutes of "we can't....." Because I can remember. All other shows were stupid! A-team enough said.

I've watched the show when I was a kid. It is a time peace, very witty and quippy. Trying to get sent home through behavior and dress and things they said. The movie I as well only saw in small bits and parts. I wonder if on your list of movies to go through involves 'Over The Top'. I recently watched it thinking it was a bit of a lark, but it was a pretty good movie. 80's silly and well... over the top scenes, but it was a fantastic father son movie. I wonder if it's that the movie doesn't work as well as it does as a book, or that the way it was shot for this, maybe a different director or approach about the book could find its mark. Love your One Piece stuff, but just love seeing you guys smiling and going into depth on any subjects it seems. Wonderful relationship.

I'm finding this so late, but like as someone who also has a Lit. degree, I absolutely love Dad's enthusiasm once he's come to appreciate the legitimacy of One Piece as literature. Usopp is one of my favorite characters as well, and I can't wait to see Dad's thoughts on the deeper aspects of the story as he reads more!

So, it's interesting that Dad hasn't mentioned or picked up on each of the East Blue Crew's pirate vice yet. I'd love to hear his thoughts on it

While reading just the manga and pulling stuff as you go is good, more research is also good, same with your backtracking through parts you've already read. I will say, your question that he refused to answer could be figured out if you look back through two parts of the story that you've already read. Will I say whether Roger's crew was the one that left Laboon behind or not? No, but the answer is yours to figure out if you wish to look back on it. I know that on "The Drawk Show" (youtube channel), that read-through of One Piece had a lot of indepth research on our own world in regards to topics that the new reader, "Mama Drawk", was connecting to parts of One Piece based on what stuck out to her. You're fully welcome to do your own outstanding research (I just recommend to try to avoid any searches that include "One Piece" or major character/location names). There's insight that can be found without spoiling yourself, so long as your research is disconnected enough. However, you don't need to do any extra research to improve this read-through. Your own insight is unique enough that we'll probably still be back each episode until you're caught up. Do whatever feels right when it comes to what you want to take away from One Piece.

I started reading One Piece in 2003 in an English translated Shonen Jump… I liked the character of Luffy right away… because me being American the closest character that was like Luffy was Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four… except for the obvious Mr. Fantastic is a genius where Luffy is in the other direction polar opposites… but I never liked Mr. Fantastic’s fighting parlance… for he always got beat up if it ever got physical with an enemy & that’s just not the case when it comes to Luffy always has some kind of creative way of fighting using his ability.

You guys should checkout Yu Yu Hakusho, its my favorite anime even over One Piece. Specifically because every episode is canon and fast paced. Please watch the english version as it has great voice acting and keeps the Japanese music. I think you'll be hooked by the first episode. Only 112 episodes by the way.

Btw don't watch one pace after dressrosa. after that the quality of one pace drops dramatically, and they tend to mess up on timing and a lot of important aspects of one piece get switched around or missed.

Omg, no spoiler but i can say it's totally confirmed that we are surely returning to Laboon and when that happnes I'm gonna ball my eyes out like never before. 😭 Laboon's pirates backstory is my favorite backstory in this series. (Nex to Trafalgar and Corazón's backstory)

Because you mentioned how ppl share their one piece experience back in the day. WHile teh Alabasta saga run on the german TV the first one piece card game just dropped and we bought some cards that even spoiled some characters for us xD we loved the story with laboon and we might shot some boogers around after whiskey peak, but we definetly all liked zoro after alabasta! teh show aired 5 days a weeks directly after school so we had to quickly get home to see it xD

At Whiskey peak Oda was still trying to figure out how he wabted to write the story. For example oda later admitted that he didn't plan Vivi to be Princess. But that he decided that on the spot. Another thing was how luffy was acting towards Zoro, it was a contradiction of luffy his personality. When nami betrayed luffy... He didn't felt the need to hear her story. He trusted her to be a good guy, and realized she must have her reasons. But with zorro: he believed that zoro was a bad guy immediately. It gave a fun little battle section though. After ehiskey peak oda grew as an author and he had more of a firm griib on the story and personalities

About Nami manga vs live action: I think they tried to show her manipulative side in the life action but could have been handled even better. In the live action she fooled the pirates to steal their ship. And she was flirting with the marine to get his costume. But a missed opportunity was when Nami and Luffy were making a deal about getting a ship. Luffy his deal was: if I don't get the ship we steal one and move on. The Nami from the anime/manga would have added that she would get money or something else if she would win. But one real thing the live action Nami is lacking: is fun cheekiness. She way very serious most of the time. While the anime/manga counter part would laugh a lot more and make sassy remarks. But I understand what they were going for...they wanted to show the burden on her. But I hope that in season 2 she will be more carefree and happy. But overall I did like the live action nami, but it is a different Nami then the manga nami

Nami does have a nurturing personality, but it only comes out with other women and with children. She’s basically a misandrist otherwise but is fiercely loyal to her crew, even if she’s also a huge manipulator. She’s enough of an asshole early on that it makes sense to tone it down for OPLA, since she can end up being extremely unlikable if they try to be more faithful to the manga

Thank you for the deep analysis. I love the thorough deepdive! Was here from the beginning, will be here till One Piece ends. personally I just enjoy you guys' insight so much. For me, personally I would want episodes to be a tiny bit longer maybe 10-20 more, mostly for the longer arcs, just to make sure your deepdive doesn't go to waste.
