Lol you guys are hilarious. I watched Pacific Rim the day it came out, which was also coincidentally my 14th birthday. I love it, because it's dumb, because it's fun, and because it's cringey, and because it's also immensely well made in terms of the effects, those robots look and feel real, heavy and badass. It's also the only time I remember going to the movies with my grandpa, who passed away last year at the start of the summer. I totally get the criticisms and the sheer dumbassery on diplay in this movie, but for me, it's a 10/10.
I'm a bit disappointed Richard didn't really like it, but I totally get it. Keep on keeping on guys, looking forward to your next One Piece video!
@HobbiesofaMan lol yeah, he's not as big as fan of the dumb popcorn flicks like I am, but I do enjoy covering them, if only to see his reactions -Noah
As someone who enjoys this movie, and has listened to the directors commentary many times. This is more inspired by Tokusatsu(bad spelling), which is giant robots like Mazinger Z(70's giant robot show,), and older Godzilla movies. He does mention that the colors and angles are meant to be like Anime.
@@davidkeyes123 makes sense thinking about it with that in mind -Noah
when i clicked this, i said "no way he hasnt seen Pacific Rim right? ..... right?"
@@TooMuchCarbs Way. It was a first. - Dad
Pacific Rim is kino
one thing to consider, the cockpit on the robot is a practical effect, they built a giant room to house the head and mechanisms.
@@JulianRWR1 aight that's cool, love that -Noah
Also 1st comment??? Never got that before.
Great fun Video BTW.
@@nunyabiz7699 Thanks!
Pacific Rim epitomizes "fridge logic" - You're entertained while watching the movie, but once you get out of your seat to grab a drink or snack, and start thinking, you ask yourself "why'd they do this or that"...
@@biostemm "Fridge Logic." I like it! - Dad
Thanks guys I needed this having a rough time with my anxiety I'm genuinely love the one piece videos i know thay take a while to make and i always have fun with Pacific Rim it's kind of like 300 where it's just fun action
Sorry but I'm going to make a request I know RUclipsrs hate it but I really want to know what you guys think of the movie "your name"
I have seen six of this directors movies four of them are in my top 10 movies of all time if not the top four
I would give a description of the movie but I don't want to spoil it basically it's an anime movie that is truly beautiful I cry every time and that's not because it is a sad movie it's just that's how good it is with the music visuals and acting the dub and sub are both amazing and the band that plays the music did English and Japanese versions for the respected version
Also it was the number one movie in Japan until a few years ago when the Demon Slayer movie came out
@tk-1574 make requests! We love taking suggestions. We will add it to the list!
I hope you feel better soon, hopefully we could brighten your day! -Noah
We LOVE requests, especially when it opens up a new genre that we haven't explored. Noah and I spoke about this just today, and we're adding "Your Name" to our list of movies to cover. Bad news - it's #20 on our list. Good news - we don't go in numerical order. Thanks for the suggestion. - Dad
@PorkChopsRiceandPeaches I'm looking forward to it. I hope you enjoy it, if you do I'll subject more of his films ❤️
I remember in one of the videos you said you see yourself as our dad, this is a movie I would like to share with my dad and well everyone, but I know he wouldn't give it a chance
@PorkChopsRiceandPeaches whenever you guys do watch it throughout the movie if you see the Japanese text and there's not an English translation for it you may want to find a different version because there's one part of the movie where the text matters
But this would be a really good movie for you all to discuss
all of the Landscapes of Tokyo or one-for-one recreations there's amazing videos out there where it compares the anime to real life locations and they're pretty spot-on
@PanelPublishing Thanks for the heads-up! - Dad
The theoretical way Plasma weapons function is by first creating a volume of superheated plasma and then launching a group of heat resistant projectiles through said plasma thereby createing a burst of flying molten slag, and since projectiles are not limitless the internal arm cannon's action assembly would have an auto loader system which in turn would have a shot limit or "clip" for short.
I can't believe that this is his first time seeing pacific rim
If you're looking for other movies by Guillermo del Toro, I'd recommend Pan's Labyrinth for one of his older ones.
@@gwenknight5003 Thanks for the suggestion!- Richard
No-Notes-Richard is without boundaries! He is unconstrained by the confines of the written word, unshackled from the confused mind of Richard-of-the-Past. There is no containing him! We have zero visibility and we are flying this plane directly into this storm just so that we can jump out without a parachute! The seat belt sign is off! Airbags have been disabled! We are leaping into the deep end immediately after eating! We will stick our arms and legs outside the ride whenever we darn well feel like it!
NO NOTES!
@@studentoftheblade6201 Lol. - Dad
@@studentoftheblade6201 😂
you should totally watch evangelion together
So if your Looking for Mech stuff with a little more...... Substance....
Big O. ( Its a bit of a mind game. But Honestly really good.)
Gundam Wing. (One of the MANY Gundam things. My Personal Fav.)
Those would be my biggest suggestions. Both anime. Both with Low episode count. If you can find them.
@nunyabiz7699 I'll probably check them out. I always preferred Transformers to mechs cause living robots seemed cooler, but Titanfall 2 became my favorite game so I should probably watch more mech stuff -Noah
@@PorkChopsRiceandPeaches I can understand that. i am not a Huge mech fan usually. Big O is more a Noir style story centered around a mystery. Complete with the old school Voice overs like the old Detective Movies. Some HEAVY Cowboy beebop style on the characters personalities and scenes though. So its Different.
Gundam Wing is...... A 49 Episode anime that really has great action. (specially for its age.) But a lot of macro scaled concepts on Geo political concepts and even war its self. While a lot of the different Gundam series focus on the impacts of War on more personal levels Wing really also looks at the Macro.
Plus Giant robots fighting is awesome. And the Designs for Big O and Gundam WIng Mechs are about as far apart from each other as King Kong and Godzilla Designs.
@nunyabiz7699 ok, ya sold me, I'll check them out!
man im not sure if its even possible but i think the PS4/PS5 God of War game would be really good for a review or just discussion maybe as a Son explains kind of video its not a bad story
@@frozenfeonix1328 My middle child has been telling me about God of War for years. It's his favorite game. It would take me a year to play before I could talk about it. But, I love a suggestion. - Dad
I was going to suggest Hell Boy but it sounds like you don’t Ron Perlman.
@@jonathan7skyfire Not a fan. - Richard
@jonathan7skyfire I like his Hellboy, and that's about it. Fun movies. We might cover them -Noah
Pacific rim is not for me, Kaiju stuff doesn't do it for me. Shoehorned romance, boring motivations. I find fun movies fun. The Cable Guy is fun. I just don't find this movie any fun. But glad Noah enjoys, but I'm with Richard on this one. This movie is corporate nonsense. It is an example of high budget, low substance that has led to almost only blockbusters being made. This movie is upsetting to me culturally. For what it has done to the landscape of cinema.
