That discussion somehow became a deep dive into Misbah and his unique, nerdy approach to cricket. We then discuss Fatima Sana's strong performance in a patchy but encouraging 1-2 series loss to South Africa, and end with an overdue remembrance of the recently departed Haniya Aslam. 00:0...

Episode 44 - Batta Fast at the PSL - Deep Dive into ISLU's win with Rehan Part 2
52:00 What world is Rehan living in here? “Pakistan is obsessed with technique” WHAT?! You guys are so free range that you’ve been waiting for a headless chicken like Haider Ali to turn into AB de Villiers for the past 5 years 🤣. If you understood or enforced technique Haider wouldn’t have made past under-17. If you want to see what respecting technique looks like, listen to Indian comms critique their batters, where it seems every movement or lack thereof is meaningfully analyzed - kis ka sar kahan jaa raha tha woh kab drop hua phir wapis select honay ke baad foot kahan land ker raha hai and all that. Hamara tou ek hi commentator hai jo 25 saal se sirf “brilliant shot”, “magnificent hit”, “sensational innings” he karta raha hai. If Rehan thinks Pakistan is obsessed with technique, not sure what he’ll say about Indians.
49:13 The person Sarfraz Nawaz is likely referring to here is PJ Mir’s uncle (Saleem Mir I think). I heard Amir Sohail mention in an interview that Saleem had shared this insight about the old ball with Sarfraz, so in that sense he was the guy to first discover reverse swing.
Saqlain Mushtaq and Rashid Latif were the reasons I fell in love with cricket. Now that you have done an episode on Saqlain and offspin, why not do an episode on the art of wicket keeping and wicket keepers
This. And invite Rashid bhai in the program.
Why is science fking man ? Science is the man ! Ajmals most epic response to his ban 😂 i wanted to see Ahmars reaction to that !
Is / was doosra really a fair / legal delivery?
Boss you've completely missed the point that you have 2 new balls now. Off spin has disappeared in white ball for the same reason reverse has disappeared. Ball just doesn't get old.
I think Wasim has said in The Pavilion that it was two new balls in his era too.
That analogy by Osman on the treatment of PSL is brilliant 🤌🏽 and perfect. In a way, it's a good sign that the ICC money is the highest revenue earner as it should be from the game's governing body but no matter what issues there might be, why tf would you not maximise the PSL which has, as that reporter said, saved your (halal) bacon in the past?
I was listening to this episode on pocket casts but came here just to comment. Your Cricket analysis and analogies are obviously great but I loved the end where you talked about Pakistani music, was beautiful. Maybe it's the 90's kid in me getting all nostalgic, but it was a great listen! Keep doing this.
Fully agree - lovely end to the pod

29:41 Bro! You don’t have to call me out like that
Lol nice to see this non-serious analysis that a non-serious board like PCB deserves
from this tournament we learnt that the Pakistani cricketers have a problems with chasing in limited over cricket the only exception being in finals/semi-finals during which the curse of the top-order collapse that triggers a middle-order collapse (unless misbah can help it) in the first innings shows up once more
That CAT has something to say guys! Pay attention!
That or it was simply agreeing with everything that was said 👏🏽
Why does Babar Azam have staying power but a player like Fakhar Zaman doesn't? As in, when there is a lean patch, who has a greater likelihood of being dropped/rested and who is less likely to be dropped/rested?
Other than ethnicity I think it's cuz Babar is classical and Fakhar isn't
I really want to see him back in the test side, if only because he's done amazing things otherwise, and even his lower average in Tests + relative experience could be a great value-add in the current circumstances!
2:42 pe episode khatam kardena chahye tha! Epic reply by Osman bhai 😅
I have always thought why our players don't have any association, they should be able to band together against the PCB and fight for the rights of all players, current, ex, or domestic players. However, the last few years has been an eye opener, it has revealed to me that in a society where moral corruption has permeates through the fabric of the society, players are no different, the last few years gave Bobsy authority without impunity, so I think more power to the players is not the way, associations should not be allowed to be created, these players don't need any more powers, they already have social media and their agents behind, and unfortunately the players that don't wield such power will be collateral damage.
Regarding the central contracts being revised, couple of things, firstly I agree, you would want to give A categories to your best to incentivize them, but what if I tell you those central contracts were given out under a different management, does the new one have the right to revise them? Maybe, maybe not. What if I tell you the previous contracts were signed because the players staged a coup and wouldn't travel for the ODI WC if their demands were not met, that they wanted a share in the ICC revenues and that they wanted rights to their NFT's and they wanted their salaries to be increased and they wanted the contracts to be for multiple years, does the board, under new management, have the right to revise the contracts? What if I tell you the previous contracts were finally negotiated because a certain ex player touted as a " match winner" played a crucial role in being the intermediary between the board and the players and later had to resign from his post of Chief Selector because of conflict of interest? You know what forget it, I won't tell you all that, yea you are right, the players have it tough, and the evil board needs to be put in its place. My friends, everything is not black and white, be objective, would expect better when there are 2 "journalists" on the pod.
I dont know why Rizwan is not captain, but I would urge you to investigate his connections with Yazo International and share with us what you find maybe that might answer our questions
I'm sorry these are terrible points. The players didn't stage any coup they resisted signing a terrible and restrictive contract. They wanted their salaries to increase in line with increased revenues and most importantly they wanted to be able to play franchise cricket like the rest of the world. This sort of colonial mentality of treating players like kuttay who should play for free is extremely passe. And given that management changes every 12 months how the hell would they have the right to change contracts?! Is this how you would work at a corporate setup where your salary isnt at market level and forced to stay low, where management keeps changing and where you aren't allowed to have a fair share in revenue you generate? No one buys tickets to see the chairman or selectors they do it for players.
@@BattaFast don't apologize, I won't. One man's terrorist is another man's resistance fighter, its two sides of the same coin You choose to see from the players point of view, and I choose to see it from a fans point of view. I call it a coup you call it a resistance we are saying the same thing perspective is different. What is the market benchmark of salaries anyways? Most of your players compare themselves to BCCI payouts, you think thats reasonable? As a journalist you need to try to be objective and dare I say honest, and if you are, it will come across on your pod
Half of your players don't have any sense, they come from poor backgrounds and go crazy when they see bright lights, this was always the case but in the age of social media their inability to cope with instant stardom has declined exponentially and the other half, that has crossed that bridge? Well they are managed by greedy agents.
You Guys are the best cricket podcast out there. Honestly yall are one controversy away from virality.
Saim had 3 failures and a 150+ knock. His numbers are skewed because of single knock. At least it should be mentioned when naming him as top 10 scorer. All the rest had at least 2 or 3 decent outings
Feel it's far more relevant to mention that NO ONE batted decently second.
Why does that reply to your friend makes me laugh and sad at the same time?
Fakahr khud Fauji thats why he could say that
The intro is so annoying….
It would be very Pakistani for Pakistan to win a huge margin against England
yeah when osman sent that text one of our friends was like now the jinx is too strong Pak to win it
How everyone has forgotten the hyderabad ground niaz stadium, last International match played there was in 96
i was literally going to mention but had slipped my mind by the time i spoke next
Visited Niyaz Stadium in May this year and it doesn’t look like a stadium anymore, looks more like a part of Pakka Qila and should be handed over to Archeology department. Also, Hyderabad doesn’t have an international level hotel so don’t expect any international cricket happening there in next 10 years at least.
You guys are forgetting Pak has the unique capability to make green players look veteran

@@BattaFast May be discuss this in the next podcast. Their command over language and rational thought is below par which is me being generous. I have only watched pak media after T20 fiasco and somehow YT think I need to listen to them. But a middle school kid can do a better job then them . I may be wrong but it seems like pak society as a whole is lagging behind in the evolution of intellect compared to the rest of the world similar to their cricket team. I am curious to know if you guys live in Pak or are ex-pats which is why you are apt.
I don't think Pak cricket journalism is a reflection of social intellect. I've been living in Pakistan for almost all my adult life.
You two deserve a million views

The intro… I hate it….
The kind of shit he talked about Jadeja after t20 wc final is outrageous.
Indian here, discovered Zeb and Haniya through Coke Studio and went back to their albums. Such an amazing talent, gone too soon. RIP!
Haniya remained so underrated throughout her career. She didn’t get the recognition she deserved. I hope she’s in a better place now
The thing i love the most about this podcast is that you don't just restrict yourself to the topic at hand, and delve into a lot of interesting subject, allowing your listeners to learn as well as be entertained
This podcast made me realise that you two need to do a music podcast
Can we make Misbah 'the new york night hustler' the coach/manager of the Pakistan Women's Cricket team??
ruclips.net/video/z7NxEj4A1Cg/видео.htmlsi=U2RNMdshka8aVCEX John Turturro as Misbah
Misbah is such an interesting topic to discuss. I hope some sociologist does a case study on Misbah and his tenure with Pakistan Cricket. Looking into Misbah tells us so much about what we are and not necessarily who we are as people. Jury is still out on who we are as people, we went from Persians to Arabs to Turks. But what we are, are children of choas. Others, merely fall into choas as a result of unfortunate circumstances. But they merely adopt the choas; we were born in it, molded by it. We don't see any semblance of order until we move away from home but by then order seems so foreign so different so European. It must be Stockholm Syndrome by now as we reward choas and make heroes out of every agent of choas we can find. And we despise order, consistency and proven results. And who is the archetype of order, consistency and proven results, NERDS. We hate NERDS. NERDS of all shapes and sizes. NERDS get into weeds of things, they get meticulous, they get into science and numbers and they bring order and consistency. Misbah is a cricket NERD. He get into weeds of things, he was meticulous and he brought order and consistency to the choas that was Pakistan Cricket back then.
Wonderfully written comment. I don't completely agree with nerds being our saviors but I couldn't help but be swayed by the argument when I read your comment. Mazaa aa gaya.

Loved the cricket conversation but it was wonderful to hear the tribute to Haniya Aslam. To me Pakistani music has always felt so much more touching to me than anything else I listen to. I remember there used to be cricket songs for World Cups which I no longer hear. I would like to hear your opinions on the best of those songs.
Loved the tribute to Haniya Aslam!
You are assuming that they don’t know how to chase and probably haven’t followed Pakistan domestic closely enough. You have years of Pakistan Cup data to validate this assumption. Every year, it’s even between defending and chasing. Have you considered that all games are happening in the same ground Faisalabad? Could this be due to bad lights and ground conditions?
The point wasn't that domestic mei chase nahi hoti. Point was that in this competition the end result has been all teams playing the same when the point was to find new stars or challenge current ones.
@battafast I understand. However, at 9:00, you mentioned, 'Pakistan ka pura domestic khila do, wo chase nahi ker saktay,' and also said, 'pitches are not different.' That’s what I was reacting to, as also most analysts in the media have attributed the chasing struggles to similar factors at the Champions Cup. That said, the Pakistan Cup and QEA are fairly balanced. In fact, during the last Pakistan Cup, the chasing side won 19 games compared to just 9 by the defending team, and the final was also won by a team chasing. I get that this tournament hasn’t been ideal preparation for chasing, which is what you are driving towards, but since I’m a big fan of your show, I was hoping for a deeper analysis of why chasing teams have struggled so uniquely in this tournament. It seems unlikely that ground conditions aren’t playing a role when all 10 games have been won by the team batting first.
Fair points all. Given that teams were better at chasing in the final round we could assume that some of it was due to a new side or maybe pressure of televised cricket. But ultimately the comments you quoted weren't said as facts so I apologize for that.
