For me, Saim Ayub never reminded me of Saeed Anwar simply because of how Saeed's backlift would start from slip and then the last min whip through off or leg. Both are different but both are wonderful to watch

Having seen Saeed Anwar become a constant thorn in our side during the 90s, I remember how much terror his batting carried. Therefore, comparing Saim to Saeed just yet is kind of a long throw for me at the moment. However, having seen Saim bat and on more thought, I realised Saim is the closest to Saeed compared to all the other lefties Pakistan have had as openers (Taufeeq Umar, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Butt, Sharjeel, Fakhar, etc). None of them looked as elegant as Saeed or how 'flowy' and 'easy' Saim looks on the crease. Still has a long way to go and I really hope and wish PCB don't fuck this talent up and just let him be.
Isn't Babar's batting aesthetically pleasing? His takedown of Steyn a few years ago was as aesthetically pleasing an innings as any Pakistani batter has played in recent times. Most of the cricketing world admires his batting for how easy it looks on the eye especially his off-side play!

Many people found sanga very methodical but to me he was as sexy a batter as any that has been in the 21st century. I am very surprised why the influence of Sharjeel khan on Saim is never discussed. I remember he used to play together with Sharjeel khan in domestic cricket couple of years back. The pickup shorts that he plays are very Sharjeel khan style shorts. Opening with Sharjeel khan as a young kid had that kind of impact on him.

Give credit where it’s due but I feel like we’re forgetting the PCB dropped Saim from the T20 squads for Australia and Zimbabwe - his inclusion in the latter only came after his 100 in the Zimbabwe ODIs. Just pointing it out as it wasn’t unconditional backing and like all decisions with the current set up it was last minute with no real long term plan.
yeah a friend also pointed this out, but to me the fact he last 5+ innings across formats was insane. Given the huff and puff over his shot-selection, felt he would be banished
On the other hand, what has happened to Naseem? He has gone from being our most threatening bowler to one who is being scored off the most. In Aus and now in SA where the pitches are supportive, he hasn't made any impact on the game
