    How can you call the cable connector "proprietary" (=specifically made for that product and not widely available) when you then correctly say that this is just a different cable connector for often higher end audio equipment? You get XLR cables for a few bucks at the usual places where you would get normal 3.5mm jack cables too.

    I bought my first Fujifilm (X-T1) about 6 months ago and I am in love. Autofocus is a bit slow on my X-T1 so I might want to upgrade for the X-T4. I'll keep my X-T1 for sure. As an "older" photographer I enjoy the old fashion feeling of Fujifilm.

    Is it worth the extra money for the mark 2 over the mark 1?

  • @davidfirth1
    @davidfirth1 18 дней назад

    I don't have one, but I want one and am looking to pick up the RX1R due to the mark II being so pricey. I went the RX100 route, which shares the same small, rectangular brick of soap design language and the same small battery. I do think that the claims of fragility are overstated. There's a thread of belief in YT videos that gear has to be metal and has to be able to be abused. Going to call BS on that one, as someone who has owned quite a few cameras from 1960s manual-only film rigs to modern Fuji and Sony. And who took all of it hiking and camping and to events/gigs. Treat your expensive gear with respect and it will generally last a long time.

    • @davidfirth1
      @davidfirth1 18 дней назад

      Adding on -- In fact, my most unreliable was a Nikon that turned out to have widespread sensor failures. If the RX1 series was similarly defective, it would not sell for the lofty used price that it commands.

      Microcontrast is a magical thing… used a few Sony GMs and all of them have far superior optical resolution than this tiny Zeiss F2. But the microcontrast is missing on those lenses, making then too "clinical". Only a Hasselblad system has bettered this Zeiss, in my limited experience.

Im not familiar with the previous versions but love the compact size of the body and picture quality. Might get the Fotodiox grip for the RII. I love my X-T4 too. The things I would change are: (1) swapping the AF ON and AEL buttons (which I have swapped in the settings). Makes much more intuitive sense to me to have the AF ON button close to the focus joystick. (2) swapping the playback and delete buttons. If the playback button is on the outside it is much easier to quickly pull up the photo if you want to check it without removing your eye from the view finder. (3) Adding two more custom assignable buttons to the front of the camera next to the grip. You can operate those with your other two fingers holding the grip. (4) On the drive sub-dial put CL where HDR now is and move HDR all the way to the other outside. Every now and then that dial accidentally flips to HDR and the processing time is relatively long which risks losing the shot. You would not have that when you accidentally would shoot in CL mode.

    • @FeralGinger

There’s something special about it that keeps me inspired and reminds me what photography should be about. Furthermore, certain things such as the sleekness of the body (lack-thereof) and start up times of the newer bodies actually felt like a downgrade.

    I’m considering buying the Fujifilm X-T30, but I have a few concerns. I’ve heard reports that the camera tends to overheat, especially during extended use, and that the battery drains quickly, which might be an issue for me since I plan to use it while traveling. I’m trying to decide whether the X-T30 would be suitable for travel photography or if I should go with the Sony ZV-E10. Could you provide some advice on which would be the better option?

    • @FeralGinger
      @FeralGinger Месяц назад

      My friend had the ZVE10, it's much better for video but no viewfinder is a deal breaker for me. The battery on both is not great as for overheating I never once had that issue but if you are planning on doing long form video (which you don't describe) go for the Sony

    Nice review. I bought my RX1 the first week it was launched about 12 years ago. It has been my primary camera the whole time... but I do have an RX10 as well, mainly for sports and wildlife photography. After all these years I finally have put an order in for a Leica Q3 43... not to replace, but to compliment the RX1. I think it will be better for taking portraits. The only negative with these fixed lenses is the sensor can still get dust on it, and it is pricey to clean. I've not sent mine it. When taking a picture of a white screen at F22 there are about 3 modest size spots and a 1/2 dozen tiny faded spots, so not too bad. None in the center of the screen. They all disappear by F16. Most of my past 12 years of photographic memories have come from my RX1. No regrets. And I do like using the viewfinder accessory.

    That style of aftermarket grip (I have one on my RX1R II) is essential for my 71 year-old hands but it does raise the question - why didn't Sony build it in and use it to hold a *decent battery* ? The grip I have has a lip which fits into the clamp of my tripod - ideal.

So I've ordered an x-t4 to get an even better experience. x-t10 is beautiful but too small and it doesn't have the best grip, especially compared to my main Nikon d750. @FeralGinger indeed, I love the xt4! Didn't expect it to have such a fantastic grip, and the raws are a great deal more flexible than those of xt10. Plus, now I have all the buttons that I'm so used to in my nikon, so shooting feels very natural. In addition to the camera, I bought the tamron 17-70 2.8 as an all-purpose lens. So far, I'm very satisfied with the quality of the image, especially for the price i got it for. Additionally, I'm waiting for my nikon adapter to use my rather rich collection of nikon lenses (I really want to see how the 28 1.8 behaves on crop, as it's by far my favoutite lens on FF). In the future, I'm also looking into getting a fast wide-angle lens, something equivalent to 24/28 1.4 on FF. Primarily for street photography

    I've owned one since January of this year, truly amazing with its form factor and image quality. Although I agree about that fragility aspect of this camera, it's actually something I'm not too worried about because I have a background in working on electronics and other cameras and I encourage others to get into this practice. looking at teardown videos and diagrams of the rx1 series, they're honestly pretty easy to work on and "maintain" compared to something like a new Canon or Sony if something goes wrong. The parts aren't all too bad of prices either! Think of it as basic maintenence on a car, you wanna keep it healthy. Opening up an Rx1 and cleaning the lens and sensor should take about 10 minutes to do depending on experience and a whole tear down takes about 40-60 minutes. I'd like to give anyone out there the confidence to do so given they have the right tools and watch the right videos. I think really any old point and shoot that doesn't have weather sealing should be given this kind of treatment. Keeping old gems like these alive for the younger gens to enjoy! Cheers!

    Yeah, it's a great camera with fantastic image quality...But I sold mine because in the end I found having the fixed lens just too restrictive for me. So i got a great deal on an SL with M - L adapter and haven't looked back !! Thanks for the video and all the best with your Q...

      @@FeralGinger Hi, yep, I got the 601. I'd have both if funds allowed but no regrets and absolutely love the SL. For me there's 3 main reasons for why I enjoy it So much...1) the sleek minimal design (once getting used to the non labelled buttons) is superb...2) The electronic viewfinder is big and bright and 3) the ability to use m and other manual lenses is a joy...with manual focusing aids making it So easy !! The black and white images are great as too are the colour and my favourite lens on there at the moment is the Voigtlander Nokton 40 f1.2 ...There's a few Leica lenses I'd love to get but they will have to wait for now !! For the price used these days they are great value....

      @mrgrandad1961 the design is VERY clean I must say and I do like the unlabeled buttons ideology. I love the viewfinder on my XT4 but the one on the SL smokes it! You're right about the price, they are not as bad as I expected to be honest - thanks for your valuable opinions!

    Great video. I too have recently gotten one of these lovelies, including the hand grip and thumbs up. As a black and white photographer I can honestly say it may well be the best camera I’ve ever owned. I tried an M and the Q leaves it for dead in all respects for my photographic style with the possible exception of the M shutter sound lol. Love the lens with its in-camera crop options and concur with all that you’ve said including the relative affordability…✌️🇦🇺

      Thank you so much for dropping by, It's interesting that you prefer the Q over the M, I've not really heard that opinion before (and would save my bank balance haha) Agreed on the black and whites too, it produces stunning monochrome images, some of the best I've worked with! Thanks again!

      @@FeralGinger the Q1 that I have has an EVF that ‘sees’ what I’ve set the profile to, in my case high contrast black & white, and I like that heaps. Cos of my eyesight issues the M focussing patch is not suitable at all. Plus the AF is rocket fast and the 28mm 1.7 Summicron lens is hard to pass as you know!
