SeaEagle recommends the 15" short shaft for the PaddleSki. That is what I have on mine. The gas motor makes this platform a blast to use. It's great getting out and going further. Enjoy!

I agree that adding a few more layers of something like that can help protect your investment. It does well but depending on where you fish or use the PaddleSki, that couldn't hurt.

Yes I think both have their strengths but the transom mount is the better of the two options for me. It's just easier to mount and unmount, clean, and work with when on the water.

I am using the Bixpy J-1 in this video. It works great on here as it is really light.

I love having it back there, you get so much more control than in the center with the Beaver Tail.

@@MuahMan don't get me wrong, I've been in several lure 11.5, 10s, and the lure ii with the center pod and it's good but I like being able to pull the cord up and the motor is out of the way. In the river, the rudder option is the way to go. You won't have to worry too much about hitting rocks with it either as much as you would with the .motor sitting under the pod.

Honestly, I tried to go back and look at some logs of how fast we were going and I couldn't find any definite. I would say that we were probably at least 10 MPH or so. Sea Eagle says that with one person and a 5HP motor you can expect 16 MPH is optimal conditions, but I haven't seen that just yet, but I will try it again soon. With both of us and how much we weigh and all of our gear, I felt that the speeds we were going were adequate. At times it did feel pretty fast for the conditions. I have a lot of room in my truck, so to save space I always take the transom off. I have a Boonedox T-Bone extender and I put the PaddleSki in the truck and on that. When I get back home or to the place I am staying, I am able to deflate and take the transom off. I know a decent amount of people keep it on, but given the room I have, I always take it off.

@@jonping8 When i first put my paddle ski together, it was a pain to put it on since it was hard to put it in between those black holders cause it wasn't stretched enough. Does it get easier after taking it on and off? Did you notice if it was hard putting it on the first time? Thanks

I will say that I don't feel that it gets that much easier, but I have found if you do let the boat sit in the sun some then it does make it more pliable. Outside of doing that, right before I put the transom on, I try to pull the pieces apart and quickly slip the transom on. That seems to help me out some, but I wouldn't say it's a great advantage.

In order to fold it completely flat like I do, I do take off the front yoke. For those who don't do it, I believe they just roll the entire boat up. To save room I always take all parts of the boat off to pack it up completely.

The kayak by itself is fairly heavy so I would say it depends on how shallow it is. I actually like my 11.5 in the river, but this kayak is heavier and a little harder to steer, but I would say it depends on how shallow it gets.

@@jonping8 Thanks! I live close to the Susquehanna in PA and it’s generally about 4-5 feet unless you hit a deeper pool. But the current isn’t usually too bad at that height.

I still love it. It's such a rigid board that I don't really feel that the waves bother it too much. I have been on the board with two people in fairly rough water and felt safe the whole time. The wind does tend to blow it around some though. I am assuming due to how light it is that is just the nature of having an inflatable. It is perfect for small lakes though. I use the Bixpy motor on mine and that really helps with manueverability.

That sounds awesome! The pod setup has its pros and cons. I love the placement of the motor in the pod as it's super easy to get to. It does get noisy if the pod is hollow but I used to put sponges or some type of sound dampening in the pod. If you want to use the pod for a transducer then of course that's a no go. The rear mounted motor using the universal rudder from Bixpy definitely gives the most control and response. If you fish any rivers the rear mount is the better option as well. I've gravitated more to the rear mount nowadays. Good luck with your motor setup and tight lines 🎣

Oh you hit it right on the head. I completely agree. I wouldn't want to paddle the 437ps too many places. My small Bixpy electric motor was great for main propulsion, but it doesn't stack up at all with the Honda 5HP. It is going to make a great trolling motor though. I am planning to complete the breakin process for the motor and take it out to the East Coast and get some fishing in. I will try to record my adventures out there.

@@jonping8 The Bixpy would be fine on smaller lakes if your not in a rush to get around. Most of the lakes under 5 miles from me are 350 acres that I frequently visit and a Bixpy would certainly get you around, but fairly slowly. At Webster Lake about 12 miles away it's 1,442 acres, so a stronger motor would be preferred. But out on the bay and the large lakes in NH, ME & VT you really need something stronger in many areas of those lakes that are thousands of acres, and to deal with winds & currents on the ocean. My Torqeedo 1003 is adequate for most of that if I stay with in a 10 mile range or less and is equal to a 3HP, the max I can use on my 435ps. I hope to some day get a 5HP gas outboard for my 437ps, but it is not practical for me to do that currently as a small car owner without adding a hitch to store the motor outside the car, and until I get a shed to safely store gasoline at my house. Nor would say a Honda 5HP fit in my trunk with the 437ps. But it would be a huge upgrade when it's practical for sure, allow more adventurous long distance trips out on the water. Two people on a very calm day could paddle the 437ps a mile or two, but it would be a lot more work than any known kayak. And doing it alone, I'd say a shorter distance unless your a real athlete. If someone wanted to do that often, I'd suggest buying longer paddles than the included AB30. Maybe try the AB40's as the included paddles feel way too short to me. I had to adjust my paddling technique for it to even work. Also, the 437ps tends to want to spin as you paddle as it has no skegs and larger tubes than the 435ps. Again, adjusting the paddling technique gets around this and you get used to it, but it's performance is nothing like say an inflatable kayak, unlike the 435ps. This gives excellent reasons for Sea Eagle to bring back the 435ps as I've suggested countless times. Maybe add 4 or 5 air chambers for safety and some other improvements along the way. The problem for me is, if both my 435ps wear out or fail for some reason, there is no kayak on the market that performs anything like it that will accept a 3HP motor and sail rig. And since I love mine and use it so often, I can't bare the thought of loosing these abilities. I love my Razorlite for purely paddling in calm conditions, but for a single boat there is nothing similar to the 435ps that does it all really.

The motor should not cause any interference to the unit in the configuration you are looking at. Depending on where you mount your transducer, the motor may cause some disturbance (water disturbance) on the screen. When I would turn my Bixpy on, I would see the water being pushed from the Bixpy on my screen. That's just due to my placement of the transducer off the side of my kayak and having side scan. You shouldn't have any issues though with what you are trying to do.

It is definitely an awesome upgrade for sure. I completely understand the storage concerns. I didn't have too many places to store mine at first either, if I wanted to have a gas motor. Being at the lake, it just makes sense to utilize the gas motor a lot more than the Bixpy. I truly want to bring this setup to the beach and that is when I will get the most use out of it. I want to continue to breakin period and explore more of my local lake. The PaddleSki goes where not many other boats can and I love the fact that it can easily be put in the truck and transported. My son will love getting out with me on it and we are looking forward to that the most. I'll record more of my time on this boat coming up.

This particular motor you'll need to use one of their proprietary batteries. They have several different sizes as well.

Yes, certain kayaks are going to offer different pros and cons. I can't use my pedal drive in my FeelFree Kayak if I am using the pod mount, but I can use the pedal drive with the rudder option. However, I have to use the hand steering option and forgo the foot steer option. For me, the best option is rudder mounted Bixpy and foot controls. I can still gain and maintain control with my feet and fish relatively hands free.

Your best option is going to be getting in contact with FeelFree support and they can send you one. They don't have it listed on the website for purchase. It normally comes with the beaver tail rudder kit. I am working on a new video for the Moken 10 Lite V2 and I don't have a bushing in that one. The hole seems slightly smaller than my lure and it doesn't have as much play in it. I don't think I'll use a bushing on that one.

Oh yeah that'll work too. I've done that before. Of course I've tried electrical tape in the past as well in a pinch. You should be good though until you can get a bushing. Enjoy!

I have heard that from several others as well. I like the large platform of the 437, but I have heard from others that the 435 just performed a lot better and was simple to use. Many would love to see it come back. I haven't seen one in person yet or tried it out.

I have both models, and after just talking about the differences, just noticed your post. The 435ps was aimed at the kayaking market, and it's paddling ability being one of the more important things about it. The 437ps is aimed at the fishing motor boat market, and while it's similar in many ways as the 435ps, not when it comes to paddling it, the 435ps was much better for that. But the 437ps is an improved motor boat which can go twice as fast with up to 6HP motor, more room for fishing gear, stand & cast ability, some safety improvements, and some other improvements. But it does not double as a kayak. Yes, you can paddle it, but at much greater effort, and if your going against a strong wind or tide, some of us may not be able to paddle it back, where as with the 435ps, most of us could at least generally do it, even if we had a couple miles to go...if we had to. The 437ps is commonly used with a Honda 5HP and you can go on some serious boating trips with and take a great distance (see RUclips). The 435ps is more for shorter distances, up to a 3HP motor (still way stronger than a trolling motor), and offers a kayak with some of the advantages of a motor boat. The 435ps also fits easier in a small car, packs up faster, and sets up a little faster.

I completely agree. I love the swivel seats, but they do take up a great deal of room and are indeed heavier. There will be instances where I will probably utilize the two swivel seats more, but for now with the kids being younger, I'll just put them on the inflatable seat ha. The inflatable seats can be adjusted too depending on how much air you use in them. The weather is starting to warm up and I am ready to get back out there on the PaddleSki.

Thanks, I am sorry for the delay. I loved the trailer and I would probably still be using it. I sold it and went to a utility style trailer since it offers a little more from the standpoint of using it for different things. It was a solid trailer though.

The Beaver Tail is a great rudder and even if you don't want the motor on it at times, the rudder is still going to function just fine. It is still cold here in VA too, but I will be out there soon. Absolutely! the only difference in the 12.5 is going to be the removable pod and the front hatch portion. Everything else is going to be pretty much the same. I had a 12.5 that was setup similarly and I loved it.

I normally have my PP-768 battery either under my seat or in the very back of the kayak. It is too heavy for the front hatch, which you found that out. the Lure 11.5 is stable and wide enough that you shouldn't have to worry too much about stability (of course it really depends on your skill level) You can probably keep the rudder installed, but I found that it was easier to take it off completely. It isn't too bad at all to take it off and re-add it if you wanted to. The tension on the spring inside the rudder is going to make it a little harder to do.

Is this something you can do with a moken 12.5?

@@binky1135 Yes absolutely. I installed a Beavertail rudder system first, and then mounted the Bixpy on the Beavertail. So you would need to install a rudder system of some type first. Bixpy has a rudder system as well, but I had already ordered the other one.

Oh that sounds awesome. I love the Midnight Bolt color. I still have my 11.5 and I am still rigging it up. Personally, I feel that the NK300 is going to have a lot more torque than other motors on the market and I will always say that foot steering is better in that case. I have used my Bixpy motor on a lot of different kayaks and I always tend to prefer the foot steering over the hand steering especially when fishing in the river.

You will need three things. Start with the YakGaget plate that has the four hole pattern for the FeelFree Lure. From there, just buy the power pole adapter from Bixpy, and lastly you will need their pole steering arm. If you need the links just let me know.

I don't have it anymore. I sold it. You may be able to reach out to YakGadget directly and they may be able to make you one. I know they were planning to make them at one time, but I never saw any more of them.Sorry about that.

That is all 80/20 aluminum from 8020.net and Yakattack parts. There are other companies that make things similar, but this setup was just done by me purchasing some parts and putting it all together.

Honestly, I definitely agree. I have not tested with a 7AH to see how many full inflates that you can get, but it is definitely possible and should not be an issue. I might be able to find one fairly easily and try it out.

@@jonping8 Thanks for the answer. I'm waiting for the arrival of a LiFePo4 12v 10Ah battery from Lachy, which I bought on Amazon. It's small and light, and fits perfectly in the Bravo bag. I hope it works.

It's all good. I am about 185 and I am not sure of all of the gear. If I were to guess, it is probably another 50lbs at the most. I can normally get about 3.5mph on the different FF kayaks I have had in the past. The Midnight bolt one is a 11.5. I love my Lure 10, but for standing I just felt that the 11.5 provided more room for me to get around. A little more storage space as well. I am only running one Bixpy on it as tournaments only allow one right now. I do have the bigger Pro battery from Bixpy that will go under my seat when it is in the high position.

I have used Yak Power lights before, but I am really looking into the Guardian Angel Lights right now. Hopefully after I decide that and get something installed I'll post a new video of it.

That's great. In this video I am utilizing the FeelFree cord that comes with the beaver tail. The Beaver Tail is harder to pull up to begin with, but it is still manageable. I would recommend trying it first and then if you need to make a change then that's no problem. I honestly like using the Vibe rudder with the Bixpy instead of cutting the beaver tail but it works. The vibe rudder makes it easier to pull up too. I used the Moken 10 with the vibe rudder assembly. It's a sweet little kayak.

@@jonping8 Thanks for the reply. Considering that I just got done installing the Beavertail system on the Mokin, I'll have to live with considering what it cost. Lol Your right, the pull cord was a little difficult so I ended making a change and ended up routing the Cord above the hull. That made it alot easier so hopefully I won't have any trouble with it. I also have a HooDoo Stingray 130. I may try putting it on that one in the future but to be honest I like my Mokin better. Happy yakin !

I am sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I used 1/4-20 screws as they are a good standard in all of my kayak and boating stuff. As far as the length, I will check on that, but it is probably 2 1/5 inch maybe. Just enough to get all the way through and secure with a washer and lock nut. I did have to drill out the aluminum some to fit the larger screws.

I ended up doing like Sea Eagel does on the fishskiff and use #6 1" truss head stainless steel sheet metal screws.@@jonping8

That's interesting, they had a btp 12 and then moved to the mano. I know it was more expensive but it had better parts too. It's still going strong. Thanks for the update. I'll have to check that pump out as well.

I did use the gasket off the hand pump and put on my Shark 2 pump and it works just fine.@@jonping8
