Another great video. We went to a boot sale last weekend and it was minus 2 and two people there were wearing shorts, we couldn't believe it, we were freezing and Paul was triple fleeced lol. I absolutely agree with you regarding Turnover v Profit. In my first year doing eBay I turned over £64,000. I told the accountant I use that, and she was pretty impressed, but I told her I hadn't made any money. She didn't believe me until she did my books - I had made a grand total of £1,500 profit from a £64,000 turnover. I basically had spent far too much money buying stock that didn't sell for enough. Big lesson learnt. I ignore people's turnover now, it's definitely the profit that's all important!! Keep the videos coming - really enjoy watching you and Faye.

But as the business has grown and made substantial monies, it's time screw over the very consumers who made eBay a corporate success and made billions for its business model.

One of the things about making money from second hand stuff is that not many years ago people did not know the value of what they were selling People were selling stuff ignorant of its true value. You are so right about these headlines of 100k etc. I’m honestly not sure 100k turnover is even enough to live on. I’m on target to turnover 70 this year and it’s not enough for me to go full time. My margins and stock are very similar to yours

100%, you did the right thing... shy bairns get nowt. And now you have another contact! I'm in complete agreement with Simon re posting figures. It's irking (great word 😅). If you've been in the game as long as some of us have, you just KNOW it's complete bollocks. I start from zero every year, but when I'm spreadsheeting figures, I'm in the negative because I include every sub, yearly payment, forecasted promos etc; I've NEVER EVER been in "profit" til the end of Q1. New( or current) resellers shouldn't be disheartened by some of the figures being bandied about on socials - turnover is vastly different from profit. Nine times out of ten, the figure is turnover, never does it show COG, postage, subs, or the myriad of shizzle that you have to pay out as a dealer or reseller.

I started my online selling career as a reseller 20 years ago, then diversified into hand crafted items. As sales have been a bit slow lately I've been inspired by you to have another go at reselling and it's given me a new lease for life............I'd forgotten what fun it is.

I had a problem paying for my shopping on my phone, so went out to the car to get cash, when I got back to the checkout some random lovely lady had paid £26 for my shopping didn’t see her to thank her.!

Well done for remembering. I forget my own name sometimes lol. I think it’s a great idea to help the charity like that . They help so many people and they get zero help from government, so for you both to help them physically by taking stuff away and financially by donating helps them a lot & of course pays them bills.

Many moons ago I used to clear jumble sales for resale. You'd usually have to deal with a vicar or curate. You can end up with a lot of stuff at a very good price. In them days there was no Ebay only car boot sales to resell everything you had. When Ebay started costs were about 15% to 20% & the boom times came. My biggest ever bargain was 5,000 basketballs from auction (Molton). I bought them for 10 pence each & they retailed at over £20. They went in 3 months at £4 each. The postman hated me when I'd sell a box of 48 at a time to other dealers.

I always say to my postie "God arn't you cold?" because he wear shorts like Simon and he just says "When you got tasty legs its a shame to hide them!" LOL I wouldn't even give it a second thought, good on ya Faye for using your initiative! Id find out what day the rag and bone man usually goes and go a few days before he does! Pretty much everyone I know and donates to charity now only gives the crap to the charity's and they sell on the good stuff themselves. I'm sure you will still find gems donated by people that just want rid but I think a lot of people have got fed up with charities paying ceo's and head office staff massive wages off the back of peoples good will. I honestly think the actual money for the cause is a little low down the list of priorities for the charity. Slightly off topic, did you give Nigel @ Mobilepak a try?
