The tennis tour is a grossly unhealthy environment and very few top players come out of it without being very damaged. Novak Djokovic is a great tennis player, but, like many others who've been in that position, he's also a bit nuts.

This is just so compelling. The last piece about joy being stripped from the sport is so real. There's a money grab out there in so many sports and misdirection that leaves kids and parents alike confounded. It means people like Jim and the ones that are truly dedicated to investing in talent the right way and teaching energy management are so crucial today.

Very interesting that nobody of that generation has commented on what andrea jaegar has said recently. That she was sexually abused by a female wta official when she was underage and that it was so bad that she couldn't go in the locker room. When she reported it to the WTA, they threatened to withdraw her sister's scholarship. Andrea also mentioned how bullying was rife among the players and she'd found glass in her shoes and the strings of her racquets cut. Steffi Graf said in 1996 that an older player had tried to form a relationship with her when she was a young teen. It seems the women's tour back then had a culture more like a women's prison.

Um, this guy pays for players to fly in from out of state to be on the team to win. It does take that to win, the 3 time 4.0 champion Fowkes out of Utaah also paid for his players to travel, their hotels and usta fees. You should do a show on this, it's fascinating.

Pam Shriver has always been one of the most highly intelligent & articulate persons on the women's tennis tour. I remember that coach. His name was Don Candy, an Australian from where I came from. Mr and Mrs Shriver of Baltimore had some misgivings about their teenage daughter playing on the women's tour, but they thought they had a trusted individual in Mr Candy, who assured them they had nothing to worry about, and he and his wife would look after her. How terribly unfortunate that this trust was so misplaced. In all work places, regardless of the tennis tour, there needs to be both training and mechanisms to address a problem, if members become aware of inappropriate behaviour, towards them. Because of her well spokenness, there is absolutely no doubt Pam can be a powerful voice in raising the stakes here, and I applaud her for it.

Djokovic does NOT need to change himself to make people like him. And he does NOT do that. He was likeable since the beginning. Even more so actually when he just started. He was easy going and joking around even. He was made a bad guy by the media for clicks and petty Federer-nadal fans because of the utter upset nole caused their favs. I do not appreciate how media and tennis commentators are now trying to make it look like he gained some fans because he “handled himself well”. Please.

I commend Pam for all she’s doing including speaking out on sexual abuse. However, she overstepped in commenting about “the science” when talking about Djokovic’s decision on the vaccine.

Why was Djokovic allowed to take 2 bathroom breaks in a 3-set match? It's against the rules of tennis. Why the umpire allowed this, Djokovic knows the rules. Can you explain this ? because i don't understand. The rules is 1 break in a 3set match ans 2 breaks in a 5 sets match.

Proud of Pam to reveal this relationship with Don Candy , when you have a coach who is a middle aged man coaching a 17 yr old. 21 is the age where no one can say it’s wrong because the tennis player at some point can legally give consent.

Is her old coach still alive, or his wife, kids? I imagine that whilst it might have had a massive impact on her life, surely it must be very upsetting for her old coach's family and friends.

I’m a Family Physician in NC. A pharmaceutical rep introduced me to tennis some time ago and it’s been such a godsend for me. Nothing better after a long day at work then to go out and play tennis with and against good friends. It’s great exercise and such a mental stress reliever.

The guys on the side including Patrick's brother who was at least 30 at the time are acting like high school punks howling as Yannick beats Staff pretty handily. Pretty embarrassing stuff
