    This is just so compelling. The last piece about joy being stripped from the sport is so real. There's a money grab out there in so many sports and misdirection that leaves kids and parents alike confounded. It means people like Jim and the ones that are truly dedicated to investing in talent the right way and teaching energy management are so crucial today.

    Very interesting that nobody of that generation has commented on what andrea jaegar has said recently. That she was sexually abused by a female wta official when she was underage and that it was so bad that she couldn't go in the locker room. When she reported it to the WTA, they threatened to withdraw her sister's scholarship. Andrea also mentioned how bullying was rife among the players and she'd found glass in her shoes and the strings of her racquets cut. Steffi Graf said in 1996 that an older player had tried to form a relationship with her when she was a young teen. It seems the women's tour back then had a culture more like a women's prison.

    Pam Shriver has always been one of the most highly intelligent & articulate persons on the women's tennis tour. I remember that coach. His name was Don Candy, an Australian from where I came from. Mr and Mrs Shriver of Baltimore had some misgivings about their teenage daughter playing on the women's tour, but they thought they had a trusted individual in Mr Candy, who assured them they had nothing to worry about, and he and his wife would look after her. How terribly unfortunate that this trust was so misplaced. In all work places, regardless of the tennis tour, there needs to be both training and mechanisms to address a problem, if members become aware of inappropriate behaviour, towards them. Because of her well spokenness, there is absolutely no doubt Pam can be a powerful voice in raising the stakes here, and I applaud her for it.

    Djokovic does NOT need to change himself to make people like him. And he does NOT do that. He was likeable since the beginning. Even more so actually when he just started. He was easy going and joking around even. He was made a bad guy by the media for clicks and petty Federer-nadal fans because of the utter upset nole caused their favs. I do not appreciate how media and tennis commentators are now trying to make it look like he gained some fans because he “handled himself well”. Why was Djokovic allowed to take 2 bathroom breaks in a 3-set match? It's against the rules of tennis. Why the umpire allowed this, Djokovic knows the rules. Can you explain this ? because i don't understand. The rules is 1 break in a 3set match ans 2 breaks in a 5 sets match.

    • @huzcer
      @huzcer Год назад

      After the first set was his official bathroom break. the second time he was allowed change his clothes - I'm not sure of the rules but may be at the discretion of the umpire due to the conditions - it was over 100 F on court for the first set and part of the second. checked it - there is a provision in ATP rulebook to allow for change of clothes if wet due to conditions - so all kosher -> "Change of Attire break can only be allowed in conjunction with a Toilet Break unless provisions of “equipment out of adjustment” take precedent. In that case, the Chair Umpire has the authority to decide each request on its own merit. • Players will only be allowed to leave the court on a set break to change wet shorts/underwear. " After all it was the longest-ever 3-set ATP final in very oppressive conditions and was an amazing match....

Alcaraz went all Crampitos with the nerves in more benign conditions at the French Open so I don't think you can hold it against a guy 16 years older to have a little trouble in that sort of temperature playing at the max.... but then again Djokovic was able to come back from heatstroke and a set and a break down - he's just a different beast mentally - built different. And Alcaraz cramped up again at the end of the match here in his hands/arm - that's why he tried to hit that weird double-handed forehand. Djokovic out-lasted the much younger man yet again.
