Transformers G1 | Season 2 Intro Music Analysis (Transcription)

#transformers #transformersg1 #morethanmeetstheeye #robotsindisguise This is my favourite version of the 1980s Transformers G1 cartoon. As a massive fan of G1 I thought it'd be fun to analyse the theme. This was done by ear with a bit of "slow-down" help from Audacity. The transcription/analysis is in a short score format. The theme music & imagery from Season 2 is included in this video under ...

      Yes at that bit in the horn part I initially thought it started before the second beat, but couldn't tell for sure since there is quite a lot of SFX going on at that point. Was easier to presume it started in the second beat and was not strictly in time for whatever reason!

    Something other's have also talked about is treating timpani as a whole separate entity from percussion. We may be able to do some things, but this asks for enough rests for us to - put our sticks away, - move over to the other instrument from behind the timpani (which may take upwards of 10 seconds), - pick up the instrument or its mallets, - make sure it's comfortable, - and then play. It it also important to know that timpani mallets can be damaged when used on other instruments (e.g. suspended cymbal. The cymbal isn't smoothed down and will start pulling the mallet head apart). Thus don't write anything encouraging it

      but I couldn't agree on "the lick", phrasings are so different than the og lick I wouldn't qualify it as the lick of synthwave. the thing with the og lick is the phrasing and function are similar almost everywhere it's been used. however, for the very same reason I found the outrun rise analysis fascinating.

    Great vid mate - I was a teen all through the 80's and though i didnt drive a Lambo, it was mega! Great music - new styles of music coming from every direction, games consoles, home computers were just becoming a reality. renting out those John Hughes, and breakdancing films from a video shop and also taking a chance on some low budget sci fi film because you really liked the box art! , BMX'S, so many briiliant t.v shows from America we all watched. All those films we saw at the cinema- Cinema going wasnt as dire as it was in the 70's, so by the time the early 80's rolled around they had started to improve them, so watching Star Wars films, Star Trek 2, Cannonball Run, E T, Rocky 3, Lethal Weapon etc with my buddies was truly special! I lived 10 mins walk from a cinema, so we went a lot! 😎 Great memories! Synthwave is like distilled 80's nostalgia and i love it! ❤

    warning: unsolicited feedback below fine, but for such a subject with quite a funky feel (syncopation, chromatic motif) the rest of the fugue is so counter to this. harmonically it just stays relatively safe (baroque, 18-19th century ish). rhythmically there's no reuse of the 16-note syncopated motif to develop. see ruclips.net/video/ojZ0U4QZ9gI/видео.html for a fugue that uses modern subject material

    • @danthefugueguy
      @danthefugueguy 3 месяца назад

      The use of the "safe" stuff was fully intentional. It was also a deliberate choice to not make the one bar syncopation which occurs at the end of the example version at the start part of the subject or development, and instead reserve it for just one appearance.

I understand these instruments are not very common and ridiculously expensive, but they still exist and many ensembles have them, waiting to be used. Bring them back, that way us tubas can have more bass to team up with!

    I have been using a Conn Bass sax for years in our quartet and ask arrangers to add a bass sax part frequently. For certain tunes its voluminous big sound gives a better tone than the bari and even in its mid-range has a nicer color. I use both swapping between them because in some tunes I want the punch that the bari delivers. Certainly for Dixie and oompah music the bass sax is king.

    I'm not a clarinet player so don't know if this is controversial or not although I think alto clarinet should keep it's name and bass clarinet should change to tenor. It just makes sense to me that Sopranino = Soprano Clarinet (in Eb, F?) Soprano = Standard clarinet (A, Bb, C, or) Alto = Alto Clarinet/Basset Horn (Eb, F) and G Clarinet even though most people consider that Soprano Tenor = Bass Clarinet (A, Bb, or C) Bass = Contralto Clarinet (Eb, F, G) *This ones name makes no sense, I don't know why it's contralto Contrabass = Contrabass (A?, Bb, C?) Obviously I got a bit specific in some of those tunings, Although as for the basics I don't know why clarinets aren't just named the way I presented. It makes more sense to me for a Contralto clarinet to be called a Bass clarinet, and a bass Clarinet to be a Tenor. I don't feel like I'm the best equipped to talk about this, although the way I described makes more sense. If anybody can tell me a reason that the normal way works better I'd genuinely like to hear because I feel like I'm missing something.

    • @danthefugueguy
      @danthefugueguy 8 месяцев назад

      There definitely is a case for the bass to be renamed Tenor. We have Tenor sax and Tenor recorder but Tenor clarinet is not a commonly seen term. Also, the bass clarinet has such a huge range and is often used in its mid to high register anyway. That said, others feel the Alto should be renamed Tenor instead as it is the most common intermediate voice between the normal Bb/A clarinets and the bass. It's something that I don't think has a definite answer, as there'll always be differing opinions.

    • @milde_underscore
      @milde_underscore 8 месяцев назад

      @@danthefugueguy yeah that makes sense, even though I think it makes sense I guess there’s a case for both, though I kinda wish instruments had some type of standard for what voicing they’re named with, which is probably a sentiment I share with many others
