Why You Need A Hake Brush For Watercolour
In this week's video, I use the Hake brush to paint an atmospheric coastal marsh scene.
The Hake is a fantastic brush for painting loose, broad, watercolour washes, it can hold large amounts of water and paint, so can cover an entire sheet of paper in a matter of seconds.

Mop Brushes For Watercolour

In this week's video I test three new mop brushes for watercolour. I painted an atmospheric landscape, with a grazing cow, loosely in the style of one of my favourite painters, the fantastic, Trevor Chamberlain. The brushes were sent to me by a fairly new company called Fuumuui. All in all, I liked the brushes, I'm a fan of mops anyway, especially natural hair, so it was a win for me!! *Disclai...

In this week's video I paint a sky and semi-abstract boat scene. I used the large hake brush to paint a watercolour sky in just couple of minutes. The large hake holds a huge amount of water and paint, so can cover an entire sheet of paper extremely quickly. This is an advantage when painting wet into wet. Great !! Glad you found me
Amazing!
Thanks Julia, glad you like it
Really like this👍🏻❣️❣️
Thanks so much
So helpful. Have just bought a lovely brush set with a hake and was wondering how to use it properly. I really like your gentle, peaceful way of tuition. It encourages rather than intimidates. (And a little Beethoven sets the scene.) Thank you for sharing your immense talent.
Thanks so much, glad you liked the video
Wow the paint is so stunning And alive

I find that hake brushes regularly “shed” bristles onto my paper. Frustrating!
@@dougdawson8286 I find that they can shed a bit, not regularly though. Have you tried the Pro Arte hakes ?
Very nice
Thank you
you inspired me with the "hake" ...and it changed the way I paint...really love it.
That’s great !! Glad you were inspired
Totally amasing man!!!
Thanks so much !!

De nada. gracias por mirar
Christopher, you explained this very well and made it look so easy, thanks for showing this as I'm sure it has helped many people including myself. Thankyou.
You’re welcome! Glad you liked it
This celebrates the beauty of authenticity.
Thanks Karen
I can’t tell you how many times I have come back and admired this painting. I love it. So much so that I decided to give it a go myself. To date, it’s the piece I’m most pleased with. I’m trying not to depend on strictly following tutorials and instead create my own pieces but there’s just something about this one…. It was a real confidence-booster. Thanks, as always, for sharing so much. It’s so appreciated. Sorry for the rambling comment. All the best.
Glad you like it. It’s a painting of “Island House” at Brancaster Staithe in Norfolk. One of my favourite places. It’s actually an holiday cottage that can be rented. I plan to stay there one day
I love the composition of this painting, and I love that this is an actual house. I look forward to your “Island House” series when you stay there.
Thanks very much, it is an intriguing house and in a fantastic location
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing with us! ❤
You’re welcome, glad you like it 😊
Excellent. Thank you Christopher
Thanks Sam, glad you liked it
Beautifoul ❤
Thank you
Somewhere for the birds to fly through.. I remember Franke Clarke, the joy of watercolour videos back in the 90's he would say that.. and "happy little accidents" which was always amusing in his strong Irish accent. Love this effect that's Christopher. 🙏
Yes, Frank Clarke, I couldn’t remember who said that. Thanks 😊
I live on the Norfolk Broads, youve captured her perfectly sir 🙏
Thanks so much 😊
You made it look so easy!! Im binge watching watercolour landscape videos on RUclips at present as ibe just returned home from x3 major abdominal surgeries that had to be done in one go.. your content is keeping me sane right now until i get get upright and paint again myself. Thankyou so much 🙏
You’re welcome Rose, glad you like the videos. Hope you get well soon 😊

lovely, simply lovely.
Thanks Jeanne
Excellent video demonstration , thank you, only found your channel yesterday, keep up the good work 👍🏻
Thanks so much !!
Simply gorgeous!
@@swl9270 Thanks so much !!
Superb!!!
Thanks !!
That is a good effect. Lightening the borders, lessening the contrast. I wonder how one could achieve it right in the original painting? Oh, and shouldn't the birds have wings in different positions in the flock?
I think of the light color spots in the winter trees as tiny branches, rather than leaves.
Very helpful demo ..... Love it . ❤
"Dying leaves"?? 😮😢 I like to call them 'Changing' leaves for such a Romantic time of the year! And Oh those colors! Talk about fun to paint!! Great demos tho! Thank you! Great style! 😊
So happy to follow your straight forward demos. Very kind of you. Thankyou
Thanks Lindy, glad you like them
Wow, Chris. So glad I found this. What you’ve done with the light AND the water effect here-just beautiful. I’m curious about Bockingford paper. We hear so much about 100% cotton paper, but this isn’t. (I think?) Yet you achieve such wonderful things with it. I was just wondering what it is that you find appealing about it. It seems to handle a lot. Thank you, as always.
Thanks Sewall. Bockingford is a wood pulp paper, so doesn’t cope as well with multiple washes. That said, you can achieve some good results with it. I like to use many types of paper, as they all react differently.
@@ChrisStephenArt Thanks, Chris.
i love it!!!
Thanks so much
Love your demonstration and explanations as you go along! And you're a fellow lefty, too!
Thanks so much, glad you like it
Thanks!
Thank you !! Much appreciated 😊
Another beauty Christopher. I really love this technique and I seriously dig gnarly trees!! I'm having a lot of fun with ink and watercolor. Thanks so much for your tutorials. Love the music too. Cheers!!
So glad I just found you!
Me too!! 😊
Absolutely stunning….curios, does anyone else see the eyes on the right just above the tree…amazing!
