    I like your style of painting…the way you keep it loose! I find that when I paint w others like yourself, I seem to become less detailed. Thank you for that!😃🎨

    This was a great tutorial using two colors. I need more color mixing help. I love tonalism too. I didn't take it as far as the trees (and worked small). Mine looked more like a path through some dunes to the ocean so I left it as is. I'll be trying this again. Kind of of meditative. Yours is beautiful Christopher. Thank for posting your tutorials.

      @@elizac.9355 Thanks Eliza, glad you liked it. Don’t worry about copying mine exactly, as ling as you get a sense of the light and atmosphere, you can use that in your own work.

    Wonderful watercolour painting, which creates such varied effects with just two paints and some deft brushstrokes too.

    Concerns about paynes grey which is transparent but I suspect may have granulating qualities. Not sure if this answers the flat visual impressions. - But each manufacturer version of this grey is slightly different, too. Paynes grey is cooler than the mix of ultramarine and burnt sienna which is a warmer tone. Paynes grey is a nice use for the cool shadows to counter the shadow side of shapes. So here is a case possibly that you might consider the subtle use of a third color. Possibly you might try giving us a demo on warm and cool tonal method techniques - I would consider this an advanced subject with interesting variations in the composition. looking forward to your next presentation. Thank you for sharing you knowledge and beautiful art.

    Awesome demonstration. I just tried my first water color painting last night, Total disaster,
    I was using canson 140lb cold press paper and castle watercolor tube paint, very disappointed, any suggestions? Maybe I need one hundred percent cotton paper.

      @ChrisStephenArt  3 месяца назад +2

      Thanks Wes. In my opinion paper is the most important supply you can buy, cotton paper is certainly beneficial for some styles. Also, practice is key, if you only did your first painting last night, don’t consider it a disaster, it’s part of the learning process!!

    The only explanation that I can come up with, is that generally, Paynes Gray contains black.

    Andrew broussards watercolor channel is full of tonalist paintings, but he mostly uses one color at a time.
