I am a Newfoundlander. I was supposed to graduate nursing school during the week of 9/11. In fact, I heard the terrible news as I was driving across the province to write my national exam. I didn’t know the severity of the situation until I reached my friend’s house and saw the horror on the TV. How any of us passed our licensing exam is beyond me as we were glued to the TV, like the rest of the world. Studying and focusing on the task ahead seemed minimal in the wake of the events across the USA. We gave up our graduation venue in St. John’s, NL for the “plane people”, so that they could have somewhere to stay during this terrible time. That’s what us Newfoundlanders do………we take care of people and we don’t worry about ourselves. I am so proud that this story has reached the world. On the darkest of days, there is still light.
