One of the best musicals I listened to over the summer. I hope more people come to love it as I did. They did a great job touching a subject that most people steer away from. The story is about how people came together more than ever. It’s about kindness in the dark. The music is also very nice to listen to.
As my name says, I’m in Toronto, born and bread. I’ve been all across this great country of our, but never NFL, until this event happened, so my husband and I decided to pay a visit, to see if homophobia wasn’t an issue as they claimed…and you know what we found? The kindest, warmest, most loving people we’d ever met in our lives! Complete strangers literally took us by the hand, and offered their home as a place for us to stay. We had booked a hotel, but we just couldn’t say no, and that was only the beginning. They took us for a tour of the entire town and beyond, literally made us feel as if we had been family forever. These are total strangers, who took us into their home, and made damn sure that we knew they didn’t care where we are from or who we love, but loved us unconditionally. I come from a big city, Toronto’s the fourth largest city in North America, a place where no one talks to anybody, and to go to the small town in the middle of nowhere, and to be treated like royalty, was absolutely unbelievable. Everything they say about the place is actually underrated. I can’t say enough good things about the people of Newfoundland, they are absolutely incredible. If ever I lose faith in humanity, I need only remember our trip there, and I feel better. The world can be a pretty brutal place as you all know, but it’s just so nice to know there’s a place out there that’s not corrupted by the cruelty of society, a place where you’re treated as a human being, with unconditional love. I couldn’t say enough good things about them. I know it might not seem like a tourist destination, but not only are the people beautiful, but the landscapes are even more beautiful, and I highly recommend that everyone go there at least once in their life to be reminded of what humanity should be all about! Just makes me even more proud to be Canadian.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As a Newfoundlander myself, I can say with certainty that this is true. As the song said, “where everyone is nice but it’s never nice above”. And for anyone who sees this and wants to go to Newfoundland, it’s pronounced New-fend-land.

Jeff Lynne's ELO World Tour 2018 Hi my name is Matteo. I’m 21 years old and from Canada. I also have autism. I love your music! Is there any way I can help backstage at one of your concerts?
Hearing it now, this musical deserved a hell of a lot in regards to rewards. I think the issue was that DEH had an easier to digest societal problem (Mental Illness is an issue that needs to be addressed, which is typically a topic where the solution is agreeable amongst the public). Come From Away seems to have a message that I am trying to convey in my (I'm literally drunk btw) comment, but I believe its message is one of acceptance, tolerance, compassion, empathy, and sympathy, so much of each of these traits that enabled the people of Gander to (I honestly don't know what word to use here to encapsulate what the people of Gander did) care (this word, 'care,' is doing a lot of heavy-lifting) for the people from the planes. But at that time, the American Public was not entirely comfortable (sadly) with hearing that message. I think that the infamous events that have occurred since this Tony's, in addition to any other despicable injustices that have escaped the national spotlight, are evidence that the U.S. was not ready and still is not quite ready to hear a message of empathy for all. (I think empathy for all is a better summation of the message. If I'm hurting, I want consolation. Anyone with empathy can see that. Anyways.) Many Americans love to proclaim that they're empathetic while completely ignoring the plights of others. While I think DEH was a great musical, I genuinely think that CFA was overlooked due to its "controversial" message. (It isn't controversial, I just dont think the general U.S. populace could handle its message of love and compassion WITHOUT PREJUDICE OR BIAS to all.)
Come From Away is a very moving musical that has INTENSE emotions, and while DEH has intense emotions as well, I can’t seem to describe how i feel every time I listen to Come From Away. CFA was 100% robbed
Honestly, the difference is in execution. While DEH feels incredibly manipulative in his delivery (not helped by a rather manipulative protagonist) and the message ultimately gets lost in the in-universe (and in reality) sensationalism, CFA… doesn’t. It isn’t just genuine in its approach on the subject matter, but it is dealt in a sincerely heartfelt manner.
I just watched the musical last night for the first time (not live sadly) but I had read the book before. I think you're pretty close with your analysis. I just have one thing to add. A couple of times in the story, somebody will say something and imply they are more at ease or better in Gander than they were in America. This is especially true for the black character. At one point he even says 'I'm not scared of getting robbed, I'm not scared of getting shot...', he literally says he was better in Gander. I think Americans might feel like they are insulting the USA at a time when they had been a victim. I think it melts together with your point. I think Americans almost get jealous at the ability of the population of Gander to be so loving and compassionate, at their ability to be better.
I just saw this in Minneapolis, and it includes at least one original Broadway cast member. It is the perfect mix of humor, drama, and heartbreaking sincerity. I was only a teenager when 9/11 happened, so I didn't have as much understanding as those older than me, and as I watched this musical, it was like I had been there that day as an adult. It really feels like a bunch of regular people in Newfoundland telling their stories. Highly recommend!
I just saw this show today. I knew it was good... but, DAAAAAAMN!!! This is a TRUE ensemble piece for theater... BEAUTIFULLY constructed and choreographed. A true masterpiece. I'm still blown away!

I am a Newfoundlander. I was supposed to graduate nursing school during the week of 9/11. In fact, I heard the terrible news as I was driving across the province to write my national exam. I didn’t know the severity of the situation until I reached my friend’s house and saw the horror on the TV. How any of us passed our licensing exam is beyond me as we were glued to the TV, like the rest of the world. Studying and focusing on the task ahead seemed minimal in the wake of the events across the USA. We gave up our graduation venue in St. John’s, NL for the “plane people”, so that they could have somewhere to stay during this terrible time. That’s what us Newfoundlanders do………we take care of people and we don’t worry about ourselves. I am so proud that this story has reached the world. On the darkest of days, there is still light.
I am from Nova Scotia and very close to a lot of NFLDERS! I love the Rock so I visit anytime I can. This amazing performance made me feel I was there, so heartfelt and genuinely touching! One a kind and very accurate, showing how loving and welcoming these excellent folks are!
Just saw this last night at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle - where the musical was born about 4 years ago. We were so very positively surprised by this show! We'd missed it when we last visited NYC, and were looking forward to it, but had nearly no expectations ... I can't remember an audience getting to their feet so quickly at the conclusion of the final scene - not Book of Mormon, not Sweeney Todd, not Rent, not even Hamilton. Maybe it was just that it was a "hometown show". Or maybe it just plucked the right strings at the end of a terrible week in America. But we walked away lifted up more than a little bit. Such a uniquely/oddly joyous celebration of random acts of human kindness and empathy in the midst of substantial challenges.
Well, this version of the musical. It was actually born at Sheridan College, where some producers saw it and took it to Seattle to further workshop it. Glad you enjoyed it!
That was my experience too! Just saw it in Minneapolis and as soon as the final song was over, everyone was up out of their seats and cheering. It was really moving to see how much it impacted the audience, myself included.
Its april 2022 and finally Just got to see this musical here in the Netherlands after it was postponed a few times due to the covid restrictions. And wow it was so great and ingredible.

We care for others through our tax money going to defend other countries.
I was 8 when 9/11 happened
I just saw this show today. I knew it was good... but, DAAAAAAMN!!! This is a TRUE ensemble piece for theater... BEAUTIFULLY constructed and choreographed. A true masterpiece. I'm still blown away!
Just did this song with my troupe for competition yesterday. This performance inspired us so much when performing. Shout out to my 2564 family!
And yes, Come From Away was 110% robbed.
I get chills every single time I watch a performance from CFA doesn’t matter the song or cast which says a lot about the show itself.
Have my ticket but how am I supposed to make it through the whole show when just this song alone can make me cry?! Thanks for posting!!
I loved this show so much. I loved the cast- all ages and sizes- so much more authentic of an experience!!!!!!
4:36 gives me full body chills every single time
Saw this last night for the second time (Broadway Across Canada) and it's still my favourite musical by far

As an islander close to nfld I'm cape breton I got to see in New York. The best
Cape Bretoners are as friendly as Newfoundlanders.
Finally thank you!!!! I been searching for this forever. Such an amazing show!! Should have won best musical
Come From Away is coming to the theater near me in January and I can't wait!!!!!! So excited!!!!!!
Loved this show saw it in Toronto….hopefully going to see it again soon.
That was a spectacular performance!
Absolute perfection. This show THIS SHOW changed my life. You keep your Rent and everything, THIS show awakened me.
Looking forward to see it in Sydney New South Wales in July 21 flying in from Darwin NT .

Opening night of the new run in Seattle was last night, and it was wonderful!

Oh love this musical so much. It’s my favourite so far! You can see how they are into it and also the way all those who play the musical instruments came on stage as part of them… it just got me again and again!
I’ve been looking for this forever!!!!
I'm about to see this show tn; could not be more excited!
Something about his awakens something in my soul
Note - Kevin Kline @5:57...you can see his "well, it's not about me, so I'm not really interested" moment.
THANK U SO SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS
Why does this sound almost identical to the Olivier performance even tho it’s a completely different cast? I’m shocked and amazed. I haven’t seen a clip of this show that hasn’t made me want to cry
Absolutely agree.

Chills. Powerful performance.
Thank you for posting this! I've never been able to find their tony performance online
This show definitely deserved more Tony awards but it won a very well deserved one
I find Come From Away as beautiful as DEH at least. I still however think I would have tuned into this telecast if Anastasia was nominated for Best Musical
bruh the 2017 tony’s hit different
Finally getting the chance to see this on Saturday! So excited to be able to see this
I love the you are here part 💜
Great story - and yes, the people of Newfoundland really are that nice.
Man, what a tear-jerker! I lived those days in Toronto, near the airport. It was so quiet with no airplanes flying. The only things flying were birds, bats and bugs; we had to wait for the evening for the bats.
man this show did not get the tony love it should have gotten
Coming up on 9/11/22 thank you for the video.
This is so good!!
I get teary eyed when she tells oz to turn on the radio

I have this sudden, inexplicable urge to go to Newfoundland now.
You totally should! It's absolutely beautiful with such wonderful, lovely people.
