"Hi. My name is Joanne. I am a RC addict".
RC addiction. What can resolve it except time on the sticks, and another model coming by courier.
Weather gets scrutinised with an intensity unknown by any climate change denier.
Is today a sloper, or will it be a flight around the park?
Decisions, decisions.
Oh, and did I charge enough batteries to last long enough to scratch that itch?

Tundra Blustery Blow out Nov 24
Sunday morning arrive bright and sunny.
Off I went to the NAF OFF flyinh field. I failed to note how the tree tops were moving as I drove the 4Km to the field.
When I arrive, I was surprised that there were NO other pilots.
That should have alerted me to the wind factor, but I prepared the Tundra for a spin, placed it on the ground, then noticed the wings waggling as the breeze gave it a nudge.
I launched into the air, and the Tundra promptly performed a strong left turn (which I hadn't commanded).
At this stage I noticed that there was a bit of a breeze.
So, Like those magnificent men, I tried to ensure that I could make a safe landing. The flight was short, and the short trip was 'interesting...

Turbo Timber Bumps during 2nd June '24

The first weekend of Winter in New Zealand. (It's King's Birthday Weekend in NZ). The day started overcast and cold. THe wind was blustery, and made for lumpy, bumpy flying. No excuse though for my dodgy eyesight, where I totally misjudged the distance, and thought I was well in front of the rugby goal post, when it turned out I was well behind! So, the Turbo Timber made for a (dis)-graceful la...

Sunday morning, the second flight of my Waco UMX from E-Flite. A lovely morning, after some fog, the morning was still, and nice and warm. A great day for a flight of the Waco UMX. So today I tried a few more moves, a few, short, invert sections, and lotsa rolls. Note, I slowed down the footage by about 10%, as the model was absolutely motoring around the paddock. Music: Ross Bugdon "Something ...
Repaired Conscendo 11th Feb '24 (In memory of Bruce)

Summer took a hiatus over the weekend. Heavy rain, cold winds, and cloudy skies did reduce the flying pleasure. None of the other NAF OFF team flew today, hardly surprising considering the wind. But then, I'm an ID TEN T who believes herself above the vagaries of weather, cold, and wind, so I went flying anyway! The E-Flite Conscendo, which suffered a rapid unscheduled disassembly on the slopes...

Horizon Hobbies has re-released its Waco YMF-5 UMX model. This time with some slight improvement to the power train. Now 3S capable, along with the AS3X and SAFE options. I have a larger balsa SRE Waco, and the foamy Waco both from Hobby King (back in the day!). But I've relished the idea of getting the UMX version ever since I saw Gina (PurcellRC Aviation) flying her Waco BL UMX ruclips.net/vi...
SLOPE Conscendo Crash Nov, '23

With a brisk South Easterly blowing strongly, the Conscendo went out for a ride in the turbulent air. It seems the entire group of slopers were out to participate in the strong breeze on Wednesday evening, the sky was full of models. The Conscendo flew well, although Jo got pretty cold soon after starting, so had to land and get some gloves onto her pinkies. Then back into it. It was a great ev...

Lightning V2 Slope Maiden at Taylors' Mistake Christchurch

Last night (Wednesday 4th Jan, 2024) I went sloping at Taylor's Mistake, near Sumner, Christchurch. There was a good Nor'Easterly, although it was rather cool as well. I took the Top RC Hobby Lightning V2 for a trip. The launch was painless, and I never used the power / throttle once. A great evening flight, and a good landing. No problems with drain egress this time! Music: Zero-Project 'Path ...

1st of January, 2024. A beautiful summers day, with clouds in the sky, little wind, and a nice ward day to come. Time for a Tundra turnout on the Northwood park. Some slow, fast, upside down traverses, and the usual jinx and aerobatricks that the Tundra is so good at. Happy new year everyone! Music: Zero-Project "Silence"

Last day of sloping 2023. A rather cool, Wednesday evening. 27Th Dec, 2023 The DreamFlite Weasel launched like a pro, and flew the slope really well. Everything was great until I landed, then tried to retrieve it from the long grass. Turns out it landed on the side of a deep drain, that I couldn't see through the grass. I stepped into the deep drain and smashed my knee into the side of the drai...
Lightning V2 Maiden Flight (Top RC Hobby)

1st January, 2024. All the best for 2024 everyone. Today I maidened my new Lightning V2 model from Top RC Hobby. This model is classed as a 'Warm Liner' if running on 4C power. I primarily bought this model for slope soaring, but I found it flies well in the park as well. I'm only using 3C battery, as I'm more into slow flying / thermal soaring when it comes to park flying gliders. The Lightnin...

Today I had a day off, and according to Holfuy looked like it was going to be a stunner Nor'east day at Allandale. The wind was 20 knot, and I gathered up the Tom Cat, and the Dorado for a spring visit to the slopes. So imagine my chargrine when I arrived to a mere 8 knot wind, rapidly dropping down to 4 knots. Fortunately I also had the Conscendo in the back of the car, so I grabbed it instead...

It has been some time since my last upload. Winter in NZ has been pretty awful, with high winds, and lotsa ran, like LOTSA rain! Just 10 days ago, the winds blew parked campervans off the main tourist route. 135kph winds just make flying models a bit "interesting"!!! Anyhoo, today had a mild frost, and then a gentle NE breeze, so it was fianlly time to go to the polo grounds and get some footag...
E-Flite Conscendo flies Autumn 2023 at Northwood Park

13th April, a rather grey day, with a recent rain shower leaving clouds low in the sky, and the grass wet on the ground. So, great day to go fly then! A solo run at Northwood Park with the E-Flite Conscendo getting a few moves in the sky. The grey clouds wrecked havoc with my cataracts, and I totally lost sight at one point. Scary moment! Anyhoo, I haven't been out for a while, so getting some ...

I went to fly the Conscendo for its third flight at Northwood this morning, only to find that the evelvator servo was locked up tight, and not moving. 🤐😖 The E-Flite Conscendo is not exactly cheap in $NZ pesos, so the thought that the servo failed so quickly just sucked big time! I looked up the spec of the Horizon Hobby A381, and 'cheap' doesn't even come close! A 9gm plastic geared, analog se...

Sunday Sloping John Brittan Park May 2022 Volantex 2.6 Evolution
Hi Joanne, long time no view. I’m still flying when I can but am a little old and wobleeeee got to sit down to fly because of vertigo. Bugger …
Hi Stew, it has been a long time. Glad to hear you still get some time on the stix. I'm having cataract surgery tomorrow. Getting old sucks, but as my doc says, the alternate sucks worse!
Another enjoyable clip, Jo. Sorry to have missed you yesterday. Walked down for a quick look prior to doing some chores for my son's store. I've not done much hobby activity as the business has eaten into my time. I think my Ahi has cobwebs over it! Anyway, trundled down for a chat but no souls braving the breeze! So back to my garage to continue making some Leeston Santa Parade props. Will catch up with you eventually.
The flying site was empty when I arrived, the Tundra only flew two circuits of the park, then I packed up and left. Total time at the park would have been less than 10 minutes. But it was a fairly exciting ten minutes!!!! At least the Tundra graced me with a smooth landing, and not a tip over.
Good to see a new video. Nice sunny day, what could go wrong 😁😁👍👍 Perfect landing too 😊😊
Thanks Grandad, I see you had a bit of wind recently too. Lotsa sunshine now, almost summer in NZ, but the weather has been rather contrary, rain, wind, and sunshine. The grass is growing like mad.
@@jo2lovid We just had a major storm, lot's of flooding across the country. We were OK 👍👍
The turbulence from thectrees wouldn't have helped much either, glad you missed the rugby post on final. Do you have a slope for that wind direction Joanne?
Hi Cliff, The North Easterly wind has two slope sites, Taylor's Mistake, and Allandale. Allandale is the preferred site, that's the one that looks down into the harbour, and has the most amazing LZ.
Just got mine, thanks for the ummm, confidence?!😂😂
LOL! The Weasal is a great wee bird, and it flies well in both light and heavier winds. You will love it, once you set the dual rates and make sure the COG is in the right spot. Have a blast, and put up some vids!
Sitting in my T-shirt with the windows open to keep cool 🌞🌞 The occasional bump gives a bit of variation to the flying 😁😁
Well, the flat spin was interesting, and totally unexpected!
So that's two points for a conversion, Jo. Who was the try scorer? Ah, the Tundra scored the try and your Timbo kicked the conversion! You've invented a brand new sport... RC Rugby! At least the damage was minimal, Jo... could've been a lot worse.
Lol, you sound more like a Kiwi than me! The Tundra is having time out for recovery. I still have unfinished repairs on a rapid unplanned disassembly when the Tundra decided a verticle descent from about 30 metres would look cool on video. Except the video recording corrupted due to the impact, and there's nothing to see now except a pile of foam pieces. It will fly again, I just need to get some motivation. The Turbo Timbo is Ok, I need to re-align the left gear back into shape, and then it will be flight worthy again. The better question would be if I will be flight worthy!! I'm got a rather clouded RH cataract, and the flying pleasure is being tainted for now. Depending on the daylight conditions I have real issues seeing the model while I'm flying. 😫
@@jo2lovid Oh, Hell, Jo! Please, get that cataract sorted out ASAP... not just for the RC flying, but everything else in life! It's a really, really straightforward job these days. Sorry to learn about the IKEA Tundra 😞 Never Stop The RC!
That cataract is causing me issues with work as well, since I work at a computer all day, not being able to see things clearly on the monitor has become a nuisance. I have thought it is about time to get the thing sorted, so I should get to see an ophthalmologist soon. The Tundra is in that almost assembled, but some of the screws went missing, and now I'm stuck sort of state! I'll get there, the moment I get around to it!
It must be cold fingers Jo 🤔 23° in my part of England today 👍😁
I was sure I was in front of the verticle post, even the guys looking on were surprised. At least the damage is superficial, and Timbo will be flying next weekend if the conditions are Ok.
I thoroughly enjoyed the clip. The park can be notoriously unpredictable and turbulent on days like this. I wonder about the effect of tree belt proximity and variable-sized houses. Anyway, it was good to experience the perspectives aloft. I'm recovering from Covid and have been grounded for some time. Looking forward to some airtime eventually. Hope to see you again, before long. Ray.
A rather cold morning, and the wind was lumpy bumpy. The others were reluctant to fly. I think I should have been as well. Ah well, the goal post is fine, and I got some interesting footage for a RUclips vid!
On my old beat up Weasel, I have very low rates on the elevator . Ailerons not so sensitive. Rarely use higher rates or ballast. Also, My Minivec flies surprisingly slow with the CROW deployed. Allandale NZ looks an amazing place to slope. We have some good slope places in the Allandale area 50 minutes from where I live in SE Queensland. Not as good as you have in NZ.
Once I set some dual rate the Weasel became flyable for me, and it's a fun model for light to medium strength wind. My MiniVec just loves High wind. Anything over 15 knots is ab fab!!! The MV can stop on a dime when I dial in the Crow, and landing is a breeze at Allandale, with the nice grassy LZ. Not sure if you've seen the Tom Cat Evo big air vid? That landing was like an elevator. The kitty stopped in mid air, and descended straight down to the grass. Allandale certainly is just a great sloping zone. It's part of the Canterbury Port Hills, which is the remains of a volcanic caldera. It gives us lots of different wind direction LZ options to fly from. I'm just very fortunate to slope in Christchurch.
It launches much better javelin style there is a finger sloti the bellymade jusr for that and add some packaging tape to leadind edge.
My initial problem was with the full rates on the control surfaces. Once I reduced these, the Weasel flew pretty well. I'm used to DLG type launches for wings, so am now stuck in the rut with that method for getting the Weasel into the air. I've not had problems since setting the rates. Also, I'm trying to avoid adding extra weight into the model. I'd prefer using it in light wind, so adding weight extra weight is a concern. I've managed to avoid damage to the leading edge of the wing so far. 🤩
More great flying, Jo. Very entertaining video with the choreography thrown in. Is this DJ Joe?
Aced the 'batricks there, Jo!
Defo a fun wee UMX to throw around the sky! It does fly really fast, so it could be a handful if you tried to fly this inside.🤔😃
It's as if the crash never happened, Jo. Super repair job and great flying in tricksy conditions and a confined area. Condolences for your late friend, Bruce. Maybe he was looking down with a smile of approval at your quick flight.
Testament to a good repair Jo 👍
CA & CF spars. It's holding together Ok, even a dodgy landing this morning, when I stalled 2 metre above ground and the nose took the brunt of the landing. :(
I hadn't realised that the incident on the slope was that forceful. Clearly an effective fix as again you handle the park with ease.
There were lotsa pieces from the disassembly process. The 1mmx3mm spars held with CA really work well to stitch the foam together again.
i really like the curves and lines of the conscendo. thumbs up!
The Conscendo does have a nice leading edge on its wing, but the fuse is a bit weak, and could have done with some CF spars, rather than the ply used to firm up the up/down flex in the tail. But it does repair well, no real problems there.
Good to see it back in the air 💖
Might sound strange, but I subjectively think it is flying better than before the crash. Yay!
very cool!
The wee Waco UMX sure is a cool model.
That was a very confident maiden flight. Those loops were very tight and those rolls were much closer to the ground that I would feel comfortable with 😂😂👍👍
LOL! This pilot is sometimes a ID - TEN - T But the little Waco does fly very well straight out of the box. Highly recommended!
She rolls well Jo ... quite exciting at times 😁👍
The Waco has ailerons on both wings on the bipe. So a lot of control surface area. Same config as the Pits S1. Makes the UMX lotsa fun to fly. Next flight I'll check out its invert capability. 😍
Good maiden flight, Jo! These little things somehow fly like much larger models. Looked locked-in and *fun*.
Easy peesy. Just flew 'solid as' straight out of the box!
awesome!!
Thanks Collin. Have you tried slope soaring yourself? Fun times! Definition of SLOPE:" Smashed, Lost, or Pulverised Eventually! LOL!

Thanks. ⚡
That Rock can be very unforgiving at times
It roams across the LZ, jumping up into planes at the most inconvenient times!!! 😎
Nice flying, looks like a great day, Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff. Summer in NZ. I like flying with clouds in the background, adds a nice dimension for the plane to be silhouetted against.
Oh dear. Always sad to see a smashed foamy 🤥. I prefer to call such incidents as Frequently Unplanned Crash Kitting as I'm often heard uttering the abbreviated version just after impact 😆
I usually ask people if they're seen Kay. (If you see Kay) It's very frustrating when Kay disappears during my 'crashes'.
Beautiful, and a bit of blue sky too 😊😊
Ouch, just got to the 'landing'. That must be annoying 😢😢
Rocks leaping into the flight path are very frustrating!
Blue sky, and bitterly cold. I had my gloves, but forgot my beanie, so my ears were aching after a while.
Well that didn't bounce too well Jo, a quick fix though?
The crash occurred November, and the Conscendo still isn't fixed. So not a quick repair. But it will be repaired, eventually????!
Great flying Jo, especially with all the 'air traffic'. And a stylish fall to top it off. Sorry to see your Conscendo going home in bits, but it looks repairable.
Hi Gina, the naughty rock that clobbered the Conscendo just appeared out of no-where! I was most crest fallen afterwards. It should be repairable, but it has joined the pile of 'do later' tasks that track my procrastination. It will get done eventually!!
Ouch indeed. Shame. Time to dig out the glue.
Have glue, have CF bar stock, even have hot glue. Just a bit short of time. But the Conscendo will fly again soon. 😃
Those pesky flying rocks! Nice flying Joanne. Is the location called Sugarloaf or Snowdon?
Hi Andrew. You are correct. Sugar Loaf. I had a brain fart. Much like when flying into that rock! Happy new year!
I miss sloping so much!!!
Hi Jeff, long time, no see. Have you moved away from your slope sites, or have regulations ended the slope option? Christchurch is blessed with fantastic site options, to deal with almost all wind options. The port Hills are a volcanic caldera, so lotsa vistas, depending on how far we are prepared to travel.
That was a great flight. I hope your knee is better
I had a decent bruise for about a week, but I'm all good. I definitely now know where the drain is located at the Taylor Mistake LZ!! I'll try to avoid doing that again. 😁
Axn lol I just watched it.seems familiar.✈️📽.I got a lot of catching up on all your vids Jo.👌
Check out the low, slow and inverted AXN vid. That is one I'm quite proud of. Thanks for checking out my back catalogue. 😄
Oh dear, I just watched it too. What a mess, I've tried to get my flying much smoother since then. However, it is a shame that Hobby King no longer offer this model for sale. It is an excellent trainer craft.
That really is a handy spot, drive up there, open the window and launch your Weasel, then you could sit inside the car in the warm 🤣🤣 PS. Dramatic music 👍👍
Whoa!! just caught the trick landing at the end. Could you repeat that please 😁😁
This site is indeed our most handy flying site, but the landing zone does somewhat preclude some of my larger CF / glass models as there isn't much grassy landing zones. I use quite a bit of the copyright free use music from Zero-Project. They allow free use for YT vids.
LOL!, I don't know how I ended in that potential mess. I'm pleased I escaped without damage. Doubt I could replay that move anytime in the future again! 🤔
Those clouds were rather ominous but they didn't upset the performance 👍👍👍👍
It did spit a few raindrops, from time to time, but so intermittant we sometimes weren't really sure it would start raining. But the wind was great to go sloping, so we ignored the few drops. 😍
I thought for a moment a mid-air was on the cards, those Weasel's are manoeuvable little blighters 👍
All good at the slope. It was the landing that was dodgy. I have no idea how I managed to land almost on a knife edge!
Great maiden in that superb lift Jo, I'm glad to see you landed this side of the drain 🙂👍
You and me both!
Super flying, Jo! What an immensely satisfying thing it must be to have such a perfect sloping site not too far away. I'd have to travel about 170 miles or more to enjoy slope soaring. Your Lightning is really at home there. I noticed a lot of 'right side up' flying from my northerly viewpoint ☺😜👍
Turns out the Lightning V2 was totally at home on the slope. It does have a rather thin wing profile, but it still picked up tons of lift, right from the launch on. I was worried about the landing, but somehow I managed to park it in the long grass right on the edge of the road. Even missed the drain I fell into last week!
Nice to have company 😊
It sure is!
You can fly well!!
Thanks. The Durafly Tundra is fantastic for throwing around the sky. It's great for aerobatricks. I'd still like to get my head around knife edge flying though.
‘Strewth Jo… that thing is a bullet! Well flown.
Greets Gina. The Lightning v2 is described as a 'warm liner'. I don't think it's that fast, but it does cut through the sky faster than my true gluders. It does float well enough, but my main intent is to use it on the slope. I've already sloped it, but the video footage was not Good. 😥
Neat and tidy flying, Jo! Happy New Year to you!
Hiya Gina, all the best for 2024. Have a great year flying with the captain.
Who'd have thought sloping could be so hazardous 🤔😯
Lol. Better than falling down a cliff on some of the other slopes! Just some bruises this time though, so I got lucky I guess. 😏
Outstanding Jo, what a great video, especially for us in the Northern hemisphere 🙂👍
I hope you have a great 2024 Cliff. A beautiful, calm, summer day here in Christchurch, it got to 28°C late this avo. Hope your winter isn't too onerous. 😁
Ouch! Hope the knee is ok Joanne! Great flying!
Just a bruised knee. I did utter an explitive at the time! Hope you are well Andrew. Happy New Year!
Nice plane and great flying.a perfect maiden flight ✈️✈️📽👌👍.
Thanks Dan. The perfek day for it! 1st of Jan, on a lovely new years day morning. Nice and warm, no wind, and just a great day to go fly a new machine.
Perfect!!! You ok??
Bruised knee for about a week. At least I now know where to NOT step off the road down the hill now! Happy new year. I hope 2024 goes well for you.
Hey, Happy New Year 😁😁👍👍
Back at you grandad. Have a great 2024.
