The Chiappa 1842 Springfield Musket.
In today’s range video, I will be shooting what might become my favorite musket of them all the 1842 Springfield smoothbore musket. In this video I will be demonstrating the loading and firing sequence and also the accuracy of the round ball to which it shoots. I will not be demonstrating the buck&ball load that the gun was so famous for that will be for another range video in the future.
The paper cartridge that I will be shooting will have a .662 round ball with 110 grs of 2FF Goex rolled up in brown paper. Agreed with previous poster, have a break top or two, closest I'll probably get to the schofield is the Barra airgun repro. Not perfect repro perhaps but very good and useful to boot. Another attraction is the ability to swap in rifled barrel for .177 and .22 pellets.

The 73 is one cool looking gun. Uberti Has just came out with this in 44 Mag. It has the blued receiver with case colored lever and hammer. It also features a half oct/rnd bbl.

With this particular rifle, you’re supposed to use flat nose bullets when loading the tube on the bottom. As long as you use that type of ammunition, there’s no possible chance of an accidental discharge.

The Model 1842 was outdated by 1861 but by no means obselete.

Why did you take too many taps with the ramrod here is how you load the musket perfectly so first put your gunpowder and put a black metal ball after that get your ramrod, which is the stick now you put the ramrod into the musket and then tap 2 times after that pull the clock And then put a little bit of gunpowder close it and then you’re ready to fire but the way you’re standing isn’t straight so you have to make a T shape after that you’re ready to fire this is during the 1827 when the French empire use these 🇫🇷 during the battle of Waterloo
Also, you need to put a cloth with the ball so it would shoot
@@rapdelmonte9622 This gun is very “similar” to what was used during the Napoleonic wars, but this came long after the reign of Napoleon. Back in those days, they were still using Flintlock smooth bore muskets. This one is a percussion rifle. Also, the reason I had to tap the bullet down so many times was due to fouling inside of the bore.

@@jeannieheard1465 I also do own the 1842 Springfield. Almost identical and design, but this particular one was used in the British military.
