I still think Neil Blomkamps Alien 5 would have done a FAR better job of an Alien sequel, then Alien 3 or 4 did. And we dont even talk about Prometheus or Covenant, both of which dont even feel like an Alien movie. Its disheartening to see the state of the franchis. Luckily it seems like Alien Romulus is a success, which hopefully sends a signal that people still want Alien, but more like 1 and 2 and not the other sequels.

Thank you so so much for this video!! Yeah I definitely did not like The offspring/ black goo/ newborn hybrid at the end of the movie.... But everything else was quite awesome and I'm so so happy to have an alien movie back in the theaters 🍿🎬👽 I still have the original trilogy, then followed by alien Romulus, AVP 1, Prometheus, etc

Honestly, I hated the "Get away from Her, you Bi#$" line. They already had Ian Holmes, and his lines, "the perfect organism" ect. It was too much. And the line was executed poorly. I had to force myself to chuckle, because I think it was supposed to be humourous. Anyways, still gonna watch this movie again with some friends on Screen X. And yeah, I'm psyched to get that NECA figure too!

Things that i personally would have preferred to see - a fully animatronic Rook, damaged and no longer "top of the line" like Alien3 Bishop, the removal of Andy's callback line in the elevator shaft, and finally slow down the orbital decay a bit after the shuttle crashes into the side of Renaissance Station... If the movie was spread over a longer perceived time, maybe they sped up the destruction of the station a bit, but not so much... going from like 32 hours to 40 minutes made the mad rush around the station feel unrealistic... Maybe thats just me, after playing alien isolation, but the station should have felt bigger and more like a character in itself... It would have just made everything feel better paced IMO

I liked the movie but it was the first time I thought the fan service actually hurt the experience.

The whole Rook ordeal seems like they really tried to make it function, however we need to keep in mind that deep fake cgi technology is expensive. Even for big movies like Rogue One, Civil War, and so on. This movie used every peny and you can tell, which is appreciated. However you need quite the investment to make a puppet perform with fully facial expressions like a real actor. It is what it is, they tried their best with what they got.

Oh did you notice in one of the trailers it showed the alien mouth piece coming out of the girls mouth could this be altimate ending ???

I would have like to see the Offspring's head grow a little longer like a xeno, but keeping the humanoid face. Sort of like the alternate zombie attack scene in Prometheus.

Interesting. Im actually surprised the rough cut wasn't that different from the final version. Though who knows if stuff was cut by the rough cut. I already commented on another of your videos but short version--a life long Alien fan (before there even was a franchise), loved it. Yeah, I'm not sold on Rook (though the iffy AI could be a result of him being so damaged, so it kinda works in the movie logic sense) or the hybrid but I didn't hate it and it certainly didn't hinder my enjoyment of the film like I was dreading. I was surprised because my heart sank when I read about those elements, but they didn't bother me in the end. Yes, easily the best Alien movie since Aliens. I can understand some not liking it but there have also been some who are being way too nitpicky, taking the movie way too seriously, almost going in wanting to hate it. Oh well, to modify a line from Catch 22 "They know everything about the Alien films except how to enjoy them". The real surprise was finding out the one thing I did hate in the movie (you know, THAT line.) was a reshoot! Shouldn't have bothered. Ha! Normally I hate tampering with finished films but if they cut that from the dvd release, I'll be ok with that.

Lance Henriksen wouldn't have worked. Bishop's creator would have just been a kid at the time, so the Bishop-type android did not exist yet.

I enjoyed the movie and can forgive any small misgivngs right up until the end. The Offspring (or Alieneer as I call it) was completely the wrong way to go. This ending failed for Resurrection in my opinion. I know they won't have spent the money but a different cut without the Alieneer would have been so much better 😢

Great video. I noticed you and many others in your field will all mention that Neca is releasing the Alien figure and accessories pack.Why is no one asking if there will be human figures made? Wouldn't a Rain figure be great? Or even Kay figure with the Offspring? Neca are notorious for under representing female characters from their product line.

First, great to hear You are back on Your feet, the Vid is still going and it was in our vicinity rampaging as well lately. Secondly, super thanks for this insightful video and the knowledge shared. It did alter my perspective on the final release of the film a little bit. Especially regarding the deep fake of Ian Holm and the Offspring. I was arguing that a puppet of Ash/Rook would have worked like they did in Alien 3 with Henrikson. The fact to bring Ash back was awesome in my opinion as many years back I played with some fan script idea that was close to what we saw here now. But hearing, that the puppet would have been even less immersive or even more off putting is a bit of a relive. About the Offspring, not knowing that a real actor with his unique physique played that one, made me initially slam on that whole concept and I saw it as purely bad CGI concept. I regret that unrevised notion after the first watch. A little bit more transition or body changes over the encounter would have been awesome. Of course not to form a full Xeno creature, but something even more grotesque. The only thing I just can´t stand about this "showdown" was the horrible laughable growth time, that reminded me of the Species movie much more than anything ALIEN. The Jared Leto Joker grin was a bit too much as well. Overall, a very insightful video and again thanks for the effort. Cheers.

The Transformation of the offspring into a full xenomorph was the idea from the morphing of Capt Dallas and Bred in Alien 1979. It was only shown in the extended Version but it was an idea on how to make more Aliens or Facehuggers and that would have been the same with the offspring turining into a xenomorph as he was injected with the black goo and in Alien 1978 they would have had a longer morphing sequence as they were exposed to the black goo from the xenos saliva.

I would’ve liked to see the offspring turning in to a kinda Nemesis from resident evil. Some kinda bulky monstruosity unstoppable chasing them around in the end, after growing up by eating

I just learned recently that ridley and obanon in the original script had the xenomorphs evolve beyond what we see in the final movie, this was just it's first adult stage to secure survival. They where planning to show intelligence, that they could pilot spaceships and build them. They wherent just a biological weapon they where supossed to be able to repopulate the planet they where unleashed on and he the engineers next evolution of "mankind". When I first heard this it made no sense to me since the animalistic insect like behavior we have seen since the 80s doesn't lend itself to that idea.. But the more concept art I see of them, from all these diffent artist, especially the very upright ones, if you look closely and imagine them as intelligent sentient beings.. The look still kinda works.. Even in this video there's a one of them lying in what looks like medical bays but swap that for a pilot seat.. It could work.. I don't know if a living human dna ship could be pulled off in a way that made sense but intelligent xenomorphs.. Mabye

Lt's also remember, Fede was alot younger when he did Evil Dead, with alot of his philosophy in this movie, I think less was more and it was a good call. What I DID NOT AT ALL want was ANOTHER (ANOTHER, ANOTHER, ANOTHER,) Aliens film; we got Aliens re-hashed in every other piece of media since it was released, and I loved Aliens.

I definitely feel like Rook would've been handled better if it was a more damaged puppet like Bishop in Alien 3. The effect was very convincing and wasn't distracting like Rook is, though imo its not terrible, it couldve been done a better way like they did with bishop in 1993.

I do think people like to make out Ridley Scott is the 'villain' here [especially if they don't like his Prequels] when he is a producer on the new Alien: Romulus and Blade Runner: 2049 with Denis Villeneuve [who's a far bigger director than Neil Blomkamp even at the time] so he's clearly willing to work with other talents on his projects which he would have done on this one as he was going to produce it and after all a similar journey happened to Blomkamp's Robocop movie which Scott had no involvement with.

I way prefer the offspring turning into a Xenomorph tbh. having the final boss in the movie be some completely different creature than the alien feels like the filmmakers acknowledging audiences have been desensitized to the xenomorph design. that original ending would’ve felt better to me personally

I do think this is one of those times where the mystique around the project is helped by it not being made rather than it having the final results disappoint people [especially given Blomkamp's recent films not being great].

What if they made Rook as a puppet where his jaw was messed up, his mouth was stationary, and his voice sounded more mechanized like it was only coming from his throat? I wished they had done that with Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy. Just mess up their face and it'll be fine.
