How fun! I must try this too
I love the lining you chose for the vest
I enjoyed watching this. Your quilt is going to be so good, really like all the colours. I’m hoping to knit a pelica vest soon, yours is lovely.
I'm really enjoying slowly stitching the quilt in the evenings 🕯 it's got such a weight to it! I definitely recommend the Pelica :)
Hi Lorna I love your waxed jacket. Do you ever do commissions as in sewing garments for other people? I am definitely making the vest so thanks for sharing. You are very inspirational and I love your attitude about building a positive future through making things. Thank you
Thanks so much, Donna! That's lovely, and I'm glad you feel that way. I've gotten lots of wear out of the vest already - I definitely recommend it 😊 sorry though, I don't tend to do commissions. I love the idea of it, but makes end up being very expensive for people if I set for an hourly wage for the making - I mostly teach instead 😊
I imagine commissions would be very costly. One day I might be brave and adventurous enough to give it a go. Thanks Lorna
Had anxiety this morning and managed to find some time to sit down and with my knitting and watch your video. It was so calming and relaxing, that by the time the video finished I forgot all about my anxiety ❤
Sorry you were feeling anxious, but I'm so pleased you found some time to do something soothing, and that the video was part of that for you! It always makes me feel less anxious to do something like that 😊 x
Hi Lorna! I've been a viewer for a while but have watched many of your videos particularly in the past few days. I love your energy and makes and am very inspired and comforted by your content which is much needed right now. Love from the US <3
I'm so glad you enjoy them, and that they're bringing you some comfort. I'm so sorry for what's going on in the US. Shocked over here too and thinking of you all. Sending love x
@@threadandyarn it means a lot to have the support of sisters overseas and all around the world. Have to believe that theres hope for women, etc. in the future still. thank you Lorna, you're simply lovely and will be playing in the background today as I enjoy therapeutic sewing and knitting. <3 take care ! x
Hi Lorna 👋 Lovely soothing chat and 'show and tell', thank you. I love your closing message.
Thank you Kate 😊
Thank you for a lovely video, I'm glad the algorithm brought me here. :) The colours of your yarns are absolutely lovely!
Ah welcome! Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🥰
I loved all your beautiful makes this month Lorna and the colours of yarn you dyed are wonderful -sadly by the time I saw this video your online shop had sold out of everything I wanted to buy!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ☺️ I was surprised by how quickly things sold out. Sorry you missed out, I will have to do more sets next time!
Nice fit on your trousers. When I sew buttons on, I start with the knot on the rights side, under the button. I also place a coin as a spacer so that the button is not too tight against the fabric, which tends to fray the thread over time as you button the pants. On the last pass through the holes of the button, I wind the thread around the threads between the button and the fabric to create a shank, then pull the needle through the fabric, keeping the needle on the right side, then tie a knot. That way, the two knots are under the button, rather than being on the inside.
Love the dresses. I wore dresses so much of my life, but don't have the occasion to wear them as much now. Your wedding dress is lovely. I think the triangle construction is what gave it the bias drape that is so lovely.
Thank you 😊
Thank you
🥰
J Stern Designs has a youtube channel that explains the ways to get certain results when sewing pants (eliminating bagginess, increasing crotch depth, etc.) I have learned from them, even though I've been sewing for over 60 years.
Thank you, I'll have a look 😊
Thank you for another lovely video✨️ You are so calming and lovely to listen to😊 And i love all the colors you are using😍
Thank you, Monica! Glad you like them 🥰
Oh I wish I lived near Stroud ❤. Beautiful makes Lorna 🥰
Thanks Yvonne ☺️ I do love this town!

Hello ☺️
Thank you 🥰
Thank you! ☺️
Another lovely video, thank you Lorna
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
I always love these long chatty videos, where you just talk about your ideas and projects that you're working on : )
Thank you! I'm glad you like them, they feel the most natural for me ☺️
i love your handmade outfits!
Thank you! ☺️
Hi Lorna, I have finished my Pelica vest, mine has come up a bit big for me so I might felt it a bit when I block it, I used 100% wool. Did you block yours? love you quilt ❤
Hey Sharon ☺️ I haven't blocked mine yet, but I think I will. Mine is also slightly big, but I think I like it like that. The pattern says to felt it slightly on blocking, but I'm a little nervous as I love the texture as it is!
@@threadandyarnyes I am a little nervous too, but think I will give it a go, I will let you know how it goes!
I love your videos❤ Is there a way to buy ONLY the pattern for the fallow headband? Thanks
Hello :) yes, it's on my Ravelry x
Hello Lorna, Hope you’re keeping well. I love your new jacket. I hope one day to face my fear with my sewing machine and produce some homemade clothes. I’m so excited for the knitting retreat in the new year! As well as meeting you all. Happy making and gardening 😍 Kim x
Hello Kim! Really looking forward to meeting you all in February 🥰 I can recommend some beginner sewing patterns for you, if you'd ever like to give it a go ☺️
@ super, absolutely x
I’m in Gloucestershire in Berkeley- love your videos. 😊
Ah lovely! Not far away. The Salutation in Ham is one of my favourite pubs :)
@ oh wow yes just down the road. My channel is all Sharpness. ☺️☺️☺️
Think of it this way, in ancient lore Halloween (Samhain) was the start of a new year, rather than the start of the end in modern culture. Maybe that thought will get us through jan-feb. 🤔 Maybe. Love your yarn colours.
Yes, good point! It feels like it from a growing perspective to me 😊
I love your videos, I love listening to craft talk and you present it in such a way that calms my anxiety. Never stop being you :)
Awh thanks so much! I'm glad it's so soothing for you 🥰
Lovely calming video and I've just ordered one of the sock kits and one of the mitten kits. I hope I get on OK as I'm not that good at knitting but want to improve. All the best from a very unseasonably warm and sunny Inverness! x
Thank you, Heather! Let me know if you have any questions as you knit ☺️
hey lorna thanks for another great video!
Glad you liked it ☺️
I love the quilt ❤
Thank you, it's very cosy 😊
I’ve just found your channel and really enjoyed this episode. I like to see repeat outfits, I feel it’s much more relatable to how many people dress. I’m wanting lots of vests at the moment.
I'm glad you enjoyed it ☺️ yes, my outfits get lots of wear and I want to make more of a point of that. I love vests too, they're so useful!
I just finished watching your lovely, cozy video. It’s been hard day here in the US, after our contentious election. It was just what I needed, slow making, cozy and filled with lovely makes! Thanks for making my day so much more tolerable and brighter, emphasizing the important things in day to day life. 😊
Sending lots of love at such a troubling time. Many in the UK have been worried for you, and also for the world. I'm glad the video brought some hope and comfort for you 🕯🧡
@ Thank you for your support! So many of us are shocked and saddened and frankly, embarrassed. Hopefully things will turn out ok, but we are scared also. That’s why making is so therapeutic, especially with this wonderful world community of peace and love! 💕
I am really appreciating your lovely content on a difficult day. I aspire to sewing clothes and love this pattern. Maybe fabric shopping is in my future…
Sending love on such a difficult day. I'm glad the video brought you some comfort. I hope you give sewing a try ☺️
Maybe felted ovals would be good as earflaps inside hats to make them warmer.
Thank you for the vicarious travel. I love the shops that are in old buildings. Some old towns (circa 1770s) have old buildings, and the shops are cozy and quirky. Knitting for Olive makes me think Danish Modern (empty and spare in design). I guess the yarn selection is great, but the ambience wouldn't be the same as in a crowded old shop with nooks and crannies.
I do love old shops with nooks and crannies!
I love your simple sleeveless dresses that you wear as what we call jumpers in the U.S., not to be confused with the British term jumper to mean a pullover sweater! I noticed your serged seams on the pants. Is cone thread in colors easy to find in the U.K.? I had already sewn for almost 30 years before I got an overlock machine. It revolutionized my sewing clothing for my sons, and is still going strong over 30 years since I purchased it!
How interesting! I didn't realise you called them jumpers ☺️ you can find overlocker cones in most haberdasheries here, though I don't tend to change colours very often. Good quality cotton is quite pricey and I really dont mind if the thread colours don't match (as long as they don't show through the fabric). I'd change them or do French seams for a white shirt.
I enjoy listening to your podcasts. I'm a caregiver, so can't get out to seek like-minded people, so it's nice to have company when I knit. The deep red color in velvet or velour might make a nice elasticated skirt for the holidays!
Thanks for your lovely comments, Jillian, I've enjoyed reading them ☺️ I'm glad you're enjoying the podcasts - feeling connected to other makers is one of the main reasons I started it x
This was such a helpful and well explained video. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Just found your channel and it is wonderful!!
Hello Alison, I'm so pleased you enjoyed it ☺️ welcome!
Lovely shawl, love the retreat idea but use a powerchair so I guess this is not accessible
Hello ☺️ would you like to send me an email with some more details? It's lorna.threadandyarn@gmail.com and I can talk to Lucia. The bedrooms are upstairs, and unfortunately there's no lift, though we are offering non residential tickets with some guests staying in nearby accommodation. All of the day activities are on the ground floor. It would be good to know a little more about your chair and any other details that would be important for you ☺️

Thank you for the lovely video.....loved the trip to your allotment. Could you say the name of the dress you wear with the little black tshirt? Love that style and would love the pattern. Thank you and happy crafting!
That's the Hattie Dress by Merchant and Mills ☺️ I narrowed the width of the skirt, but otherwise it's as per the pattern!
Oh, I wish I could go to the retreat, unfortunately I live in Canada! I would love to knit the briar shawl, such a beautiful pattern. I do hope you sell it🥰
Thank you 😊 I will release it as a pattern at the same time as the retreat for a little knitalong 🥰
I have just stumbled across your podcast. It’s so refreshing to see the slow fashion and natural fibres you make and wear. The planet would be a lot happier if everyone had the same values and lifestyle. I will certainly be looking through your past podcasts. Thank you 🙏
Thank you Denise 😊 I'm hoping more people will become aware of the impact of clothing/lifestyle choices
Hello Lorna, Maria from Stitched in Sweden has made many tees out of merino knit. I am fairly certain that the shop she orders from is in Europe but can’t remember what it is called. You could try sending her a message to get the info. Love your naturally dyed yarns!
Thanks so much for the tip! ☺️
Hello, I enjoyed watching your video. My dream is to take a knitting trip to Copenhagen. I will be alone. Is it easy to get from one shop to another by public transport? Thank you very much.😊
It's a lovely city to visit :) I thought the public transport was great - there were lots of trains and buses. We also walked between some shops and cafes, but some needed a train. I hope you have a lovely time :)
Two ways I have used large rick-rack trim - one is on the edge of a collar, so the collar has the v's on the edge, and the other is near the hem of a skirt, as an entre deux trim between the lower part of the skirt and a separate 15cm band of skirt fabric at the bottom.
Lovely!
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦! Beautiful podcast. What was the name of the sock pattern your partner knit you? I can’t quite get what you said. Thanks !
Thank you so much ☺️ the pattern is Sheepfold Socks- it's my design and I'm hoping to release it in early November 🐑
@ lovely ☺️
I’m so happy to have discovered your channel! Love your style and philosophy around slow making and living. I look forward to following you!
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it ☺️
If you use patterns for your dresses and skirts, where do get them from? I love this style!
Thank you 😊 I think I have listed each pattern on the screen when it comes up, but let me know if there was anything in particular you weren't sure about :)
Will you be releasing the Briarly Shawl pattern as a kit for those of us who can’t join you but wish to knit a long at home with you Lorna?
Hi Gill 😊 yes I will - likely around the time of the retreat in early February. I thought it'd be fun to do a little knit along!
