Laurel Highlands Trout Fishing - May 2024
Pennsylvania has a lot of trout streams and two days of license free fishing to sample them (the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend and July 4th), so took a run up to the Laurel Highlands to test my luck. In addition to scenery and wildlife, I did manage to find at least a few trout in all of the bodies of water I fished. I concentrated on the Westmoreland/Fayette County area and areas fished included Linn Run State Park and Kooser State Park, which just scratched the surface of the many trout streams and ponds in this area. I would definitely recommend a trip up or casting while in the area.

I went shad fishing recently on the Rappahanock River in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Typically I find the shad closer to the middle of the river and use a jig and spoon combination to reach them. I've not had my usual luck on Fairfax County's Accotink Creek this year, but managed to get off the skunk this week. I didn't find a lot of trout, but getting any two weeks after a stocking is decent in my experience (it is a Delayed Harvest stream but those regs aren't always well followed). Two Bucks Fighting in the Backyard - January 2024

We've seen a lot of wildlife in our yard, so asked for, and received a new toy for Christmas. It seems like most of the action occurs at night, based upon the first two weeks of filming. Was lucky enough to capture two bucks having a tussle one night. It seemed the big one was only working with 3 good legs, otherwise, I think it would have been a much quicker fight.

I tried a little surf fishing the first weekend of December. The weather was mostly very pleasant and, though I didn't catch any trophies it was nice to be able to catch some fish this late in the year. It never hurts to try your luck. Enjoy whatever holiday you celebrate as we close out the year!
