First of all, I have to state that even if you had access to HG Wells’s infamous Time Machine, there is no way in heck you would be able to go back in time to verify this story from my life I am about to tell you, because we ALL know that you would need Doc Brown’s DeLorean in order to do that, as it’s the only machine that goes backwards and forwards in time, whereas HG Wells’s model only goes forwards in time!!!! Second of all, because I am trying to set up my “ethos,” so you will believe me, if you did end up traveling back to when the story happened, you would have to travel to another continent, North America, in order to verify my story!!!! Third of all, even though I am typing this story into a comment on a RUclips video, despite many copyright claims on such videos, and the Writers Guild strike over said “issues,” in 2007, involving the Internet, I do not claim that this comment counts as a story over which such rights apply, and, since I am NOT the “psycho” trans-phobe JK Rowling, Galadriel Waters and Astre Mithrander’s rules don’t apply to me here about my story here in real life: YOU CAN TAKE ME ON MY WORD: I am NOT an “unreliable” narrator here, like Greg Heffley or Harry Potter or, even, as some author claims, Frank Abagnale, JR!!!!! So, here goes, as best as I can remember: at some point in 2022, during the height of the pandemic, I have been watching Lindsay Ellis rather religiously, but, by the next afternoon, after hearing about her “death of the author” bullshit the night before, and seeing a play/musical, I had wanted to see so much that I was willing to risk asking my mother to see, which had been a recent new rule for me, and what’s even more scary is I remember going in my manual wheelchair, when I’m usually an electric wheelchair guy, and, as I’m sure you can probably guess, this involved me having to get a ride from my mother, with, ironically, my stepdad driving us, in the car, and, since this was live theater, I simply couldn’t stop trying to convince my mother about my feelings, and, strangely enough, somehow, “sorting” them out at the same time, but, I got SO UPSET at what Lindsey Ellis had said that I had wanted a) to jump out of the moving car, and land on the ground with ANY “chair” whatsoever, and b) “swore” to NEVER “watch” LINDSEY ELLIS again!!!!!!! To this day, Saturday, November 23, 2024, and this time, 12:12 PM CST, with NO CURRENT DST ACTIVE, I have kept my word. Thank you for this video, for doing what you do, and for your time in this matter. Please don’t TL:DR this comment, ma’am. Dan aka…ps you rock, hard!!!!!!!

A different and necessary way to view these events. I think two major events turned US public opinion, as mentioned the changes to the draft but also, played on on colour Television, the early 1968 Tet Offensive. The US Embassy penetration, cities across South Vietnam ablaze. It might have really been a defeat and mass casualty loss for North Vietnam and the Vietnam Cong but that’s not how it looked to the US public. Who had been told for several years that the US and South Vietnam were holding the line, then grinding them down. CND over here have never had majority public support for unilateral nuclear disarmament and have a similar profile to the anti war activists mentioned.

My grandma used to talk about being bombed in Wakefield a few times. Just stray bombers probably trying to hit Sheffield. She told me about a couple bth teachers who left there children in bed and went to the shelter in the garden. Unfortunately the house was hit both children died the parent survived. That was march 15th 41 thorns Rd Wakefield.

Not a blues fan but around the time of his death, I was at a gig at the 100 Club in London, don’t remember the group, it wasn’t blues but the club walls, like many, had signed pictures of stars who have played there. Dupree included, I was always intrigued by his name. I had no idea he spent so much time in Yorkshire, less that like others settling in Europe. A fascinating video.
