    It's great to see all the vehicles together but I'm afraid being diesels they are really only turning premium fuel into dangerous gas. Here in Australia we had the chance to power vehicles by steam. Diesels are scrap iron jungles at most. Very complicated and costly to run. A friend of mine designed and built a steamer, the lowest emission engine in the world. Took it to America demonstrated it to senators from Washington and the vehicle mfrs. What happened? NOTHING. Suddenly the world did not want a low emission engine. That was nearly fifty years ago. I could be excused for believing a number of things the Australian govt. did to send that company broke. We are that kind of people. The designer had a friend and when they both worked at the Govt. Aircraft Factory he designed and built the first flight recorder. The govt. withdrew their support and sold the technology overseas for peanuts. Imagine every aircraft in the world now has one. When I see a picture of a politician lying in the gutter pissed out of his brain it does not surprise me one bit. I tell young people with a little ambition to leave here fast. I wanted my friend to renounce his citizenship and go to Germany. They had already spent 100Ml. Euros trying to do what he did in a tin shed on a shoestring. Not him.

    • @Tricktrucker
      @Tricktrucker 3 месяца назад

      I can’t tell if this comment is serious or not but I’ll address it as though it is. I don’t think anyone in their right mind has seen steam as a viable power source in trucks for well over 100 years, but here in NZ, electric trucks are being trialled, and Waitomo fuels have just opened a series of hydrogen fuel stops around the North Island, the first of many to come apparently. I don’t believe either of these will see diesels completely replaced in my lifetime, but it’s a step in a greener direction I guess. For now, love it or hate it, diesel trucks are here to stay.

    Last I heard there were about 800 roundabouts here in Canberra Aus alone. I think they are great if used properly. You would think drivers here were used to them… no, no they are not. The indicating when going straight makes no sense to me either 💁🏻‍♀️ on the other hand do not even get me started on right hand lanes on our parkways… 😑

    What I don't like are the inconsistent rules around multi-lanes roundabouts. So where I live there are 3 sequential roundabouts and each have different rules around which lane goes in which direction, eg, turn right from the left lane. This means sometimes people get confused and pull out into the wrong lane or oncoming traffic.

    • @Tricktrucker
      @Tricktrucker 3 месяца назад

      Yeah I see this a lot. Same with turning at lights. If you’re not familiar with the area it’s often easy to end up in the wrong lane

    Stay cool Tricky I agree with you on all these issues ,I try not to let inconsiderate road users change me old school decency is best for me , but I do tend to swear at them when they do something dangerously stupid or just plain crazy . Fortunately for us here in Aussie we still have mostly decent professional drivers helping each other out via the radio or a thanks signal great channel mate love the truck she’s beautiful 👍

  • @bush600r2
    @bush600r2 3 месяца назад

    I understand your frustration. I have the same thoughts at times but I guess as trying to convey a professional and courteous image as a driver I will always keep doing it regardless if anyone acknowledges it or not, You'll get the few that do and could also be a fellow driver or someone you know. Keeps a positive light on trucking for the ones like us that do it. Yep those ones that speed up on the passing lanes are extremely annoying and seems to me a higher percentage actually speed up than those that stick to their current speed. I've heard different theories, some say it's the widening of the road makes them feel safer so in there brain they speed up without thinking cause there's more room for them and they feel safer now travelling higher speed on a wider road, then another theory is they just instinctively speed up because it's a passing lane and there brain tells them to speed up as if they were passing even if there not. Then there's just plain ignorance or in my mind which overrules all is that they aren't paying enough attention to there driving and checking there speed and mirrors etc cause if they were they wouldn't speed up in the first place. What do you do though??? Needs to be that they should have educational short adds on tv or billboards or something to remind people of these things they do wrong to try break them of there bad habits could save alot lives and road rage on the roads too. Another add could be for keeping an eye on your mirrors on long trips if your a caravan or the likes going slower to pull over let other faster traffic past when you can. Another on educating about proper roundabout signalling to keep proper flow. The list goes on and on....

    • @Tricktrucker
      @Tricktrucker 3 месяца назад

    So I’m a Pom living and driving a truck in NZ for the last 14 years and I totally agree with you, I have driven on almost every continent and the standard here is shocking as is the infrastructure and it’s not just the tourists the local drivers are worse. Lack of training and no compulsory insurance means you have kids driving round in very powerful cars. You are spot on about the UK you have to get on with it and the training/test are not easy

      Rev matching any downshift is just practice to know the truck. It’s easier to maybe go slightly high with the revs and wait for it to fall into gear than too low and start again

  • @NeedsmoreCowbell72
    @NeedsmoreCowbell72 4 месяца назад

    This is going to be a bit long. Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you are saying but here's a few extras to what you have said that I would like to add. Driver licencing in NZ is crap and the 'Farmers kids' excuse is false as they are a minority, people want it to be cheap & easy to get a licence as they believe it's a right which it is not. Defensive drivers course should be compulsory before you obtain a full licence. Road to Zero will never happen due to one reason, humans are involved. One thing people need to understand is that the road toll is no where near as bad than what we are being told. Here's some stats from the NZTA and Statistics NZ YEAR Population Road Deaths Deaths per Million population 2023 5.23 million 341 65.2 1973 2.98 million 843 282.9 The numbers don't lie, that's a difference of 77% in deaths per million population. Is anyone congratulating us on our better driving? Thanking the roading engineers for designing safer roads? Patting the car manufacturers on the back for designing safer cars? Of course not, all they are interested in is slowing us down as they believe that the only thing that causes road deaths is speed. If that was true the German death toll on the roads would be worse than ours but it's not. In 2022 Germany had a population 84.4 million, a road toll of 2720 people which equates to 32.2 deaths per million. How are they doing better than us? Education and better quality roads. It is much harder to get a drivers licence in Germany. I'm not saying that 341 deaths is good, just putting the numbers into perspective. One last thing, NZ roads are not brilliant but not that bad. If you have ever driven in Africa you'd never complain about NZ roads again. Yes, they need a lot of work but people don't seem to understand that we only have a population of 5.23 million and we want a roading network like Europe but without the population base to pay for it. Good quality, hard wearing, long lasting roads cost lots of money. Just like healthcare, schools, social services etc, if we want it we have to pay for it. How much extra in tax do you all want to pay?

    • @Tricktrucker
      @Tricktrucker 4 месяца назад

      Well said. I would point out however, parts of the African continent are third world, while we are considered first world. And as I pointed out, if the money collected in roading taxes was ALL spent on roading infrastructure, we’d have a much bigger budget to build with. As you say though, vast improvements in vehicle safety are ignored when the reduced road tolls are discussed, as they love to claim credit based on spurious legislation and speed policing

    I think as a truckie myself one of the most annoying things in my job in NZ is people not indicating properly on roundabouts. I agree with all you say mate but I try not to let it get to me too much anymore, makes you go crazy if you do, unfortunately a big part of the problem is peoples attitudes are changing for the worse today compared to years ago. Good positivity from you mate. Wish there were more professional truck drivers like you around where I live. Keep up the good work 👍 I agree we definitely need more training and better awareness taught to drivers in NZ. They could make a start by teaching new drivers getting there licences to be trained better in the process and to make them more aware. I've also driven trucks in USA and Aussie and NZ is appalling in comparison.
