Refreshing Views
Великобритания
Добавлен 29 сен 2015
I make it my passion to bring Refreshing Views of the night sky as seen through my telescope and camera.
Although not a professional scientist, I enjoy understanding the intricacies of the universe and what can be seen through an amateur telescope. I know not everyone has access to a telescope so join us as we explore the lunar surface, visit the planets in our solar system, travel through the Milky Way to distant galaxies - all with a cup of tea.
I write for Astronomy Now (the UK’s leading astronomy magazine) and, surprisingly, was shortlisted for the 2021 AstroPhotography of the Year competition. When not observing from my garden observatory, I enjoy visiting dark skies in the UK and overseas.
I also write too infrequently on his own blog at www.refreshingviews.com.

Ditch the hand controller, use sharpcap or an eqdir cable, i use Cartes Du Ceil, Sharpcap Eqmod and a mouse to control everything, All sky plate solver integrates into SC so you can always find targets if your pa is off.
Fantastic, I flew through Namibia en route to Saint Helena. Wish I’d stopped over.
Note: if you update SharpCap via the menu, it could be that you got "no update available" but if you look on the homepage, there is a current Update available!!!
I don't think that was space "junk". Don't insult the beauty of space please. Use another word. Like UAP!?! 😘😎🤯👽
Thanks for taking us along.
Very informative Mark. Thanks
What’s this lodge called? Couldn’t find it on Google maps wouldn’t mind staying there?
If you haven't tried the GoTo Catalogue Target feature yet you must give it a go. It is one of my favourite features in sharpcap. It automatically goes off and finds the target, names it and starts live stacking. It can do a whole lot more but I would end up writing an essay here so I recommend everyone just check it out for themselves.
Just found your channel. Really enjoyable
Mark, I noticed when you focused using the mask, it was not on square with the telescope, would that make any difference?
I'm so jealous of your clear sky and you sitting there in shorts and a tee shirt. Great video 😃
Much, much, much easier than using settings circles to locate objects and film plates to photograph.
Very beautiful . Remarkable
is the rubber the type of rubber that goes sticky after a number of years
Outstanding video, I'm new to astro so this detailed description is gold.
Wonderful, Mark. I really enjoyed the session with your "willing victim". I also just listened to your episode on the Actual Astronomy podcast. I'll be going to the winter Star Party this year. Will you be there? I'll PM you on Cloudy nights.
about two years ago I saw your clip with azeq6, a few months ago I bought myself one, thanx to you. now ... I too cant get no sleep :). good work/music!
Steven is a complete ignorant 🤣
Love the design. Is it possible to scale up to larger size binoculars. Longer arms perhaps?
Hmm - so I assume that you need to buy two identical eyepieces as well as the binoviewer? Its quite an expensive setup for something that doesn't seem to deal with bright optics very well. Is it lacking decent coatings/ internal baffling etc? Or am I misunderstanding?
I feel your pain. All set up ready for planetary tonight but its not cleared :(
Ah, lovely! 💗🌠💙
That was great, Mark - what a stunning landscape! Interesting run through the editing process as well. And I found the outtakes particularly relatable! 🤣
I know that tree!!!
Awesome shot and great info on the process!👏
Wow, amazing landscape, thanks Mark. Looks like Mars where there is no vegetation :) I switched to Affinity a few years ago and have never turned back. Great product. I've never actually tried that compositing though. Great photo, I'm sure you will treasure that.
Great pic,
+1 for switching to Affinity photo. It can even do full astro stacking with calibration frames. Quick tip: You can use the mesh warp filter to make your image more rectangular so you don't have to crop so much away.
It would be nice to give that tree a gallon of water.
Great Video. Thanks for sharing your process.
Any footage of your falling down the hill?
What skysafari is that? I have skysafari 7 and i dont have AR...(android)
I am one behind you, Sky Safari 6. Have you put your compass mode on?
@@RefreshingViews Yeah compas is on and I dont have that AR button showing up like yours.. Are you using an iphone or android?
There is one free all-in-one program that does sorting, stacking, color alignment and wavelet processing. It doesn't capture files, but does all the rest. It's called PlanetarySystemStacker.
Nice information-packed video Mark. I use the Night Cap app on my iPhone. The remote shutter release is brilliant. I'm guessing you did a three star alignment on the telescope.
Hi Craig - luckily the scope has the star sense alignment camera so it aligns automatically for me. A surprisingly useful accessory on a Celestron scope.
Terrible adaptor, clearly you were sponsored to use this junk the Celestron NexYZ adaptor is far mor robust and adjustable and more importantly cheaper. For a fellow Brit I'd have expected a little more integrity.
What a strange comment! I am not sponsored by anyone. I would be more than willing to review a Celestron XYZ but simply don't have one. And having just looked at the prices online, both devices have the same price!! May I suggest you reflect in future before rushing to your keyboard?.
Video bookmarked! I might have a 25x100 monster coming soon that definitely needs some mounting provisions.
That would be great, let me know how you get on.
What kind of beautiful music is playing at the beginning of the video?
Nice to see that I'm not the only one who suffers from 'dropsy'.
Nice video. Muy buen video. Saludos
Gracias por tus palabras amables - espero que tengas un buen dia.
Great results thanks. I have a cheap one of those phone folders but I never use it as its so fiddly. That one does look good, with its 3 axis adjustment wheels. Not cheap though!
I am amazed at how well these little handheld cameras we have in our pockets perform. Of course, its not as good as an astro camera (plus barlow etc) but an adaptor / holder is much cheaper than a planetary set up.
Great video Mark, unfortunately the Nightcapcamera does not work for Android phones.
I am sure there are other apps for the android market - it doesn't really matter which one so long as it's not as frustrating as the default camera!!
Hi very nice location, and probably far better images than DP could now achieve with all his old useless equipment 😂...
Ha I doubt that very much! It's definitely an affordable approach (assuming you already have a phone) so will appeal to those on a budget.
Nice video, helpful, thank you! What a trip you must be having! As with comment adjacent, would also love to learn about approaches to using smart phone or tablet for image processing. Thank you for all the excellent content that you provide.
Very cool video mate. I am jealous. Incredible location for 🔭 is there an app that can do stacking on the phone?
Really useful thanks. re the space blanket, I don't have the luxury of an observatory :( so presumably I'd need to wait until it had cooled down before adding a blanket as otherwise I'd presumably slow down cooling of the OTA? Just got an ADC but struggling a bit with it - any hints/videos gratefully received :)
Fantastic video, you have a distinct teaching method! Question how many frames per video capture do you like to have in size, also I take it, if you are capturing several hours of videos then you might be capturing 60 or 70 videos per session?
Hey mate, Is it possible to mount a 20x80 2.4kg binocular on this mount. Brilliant video and mount btw. Congratulations!
I think you will be pushing the weight limit there so I think it would be a risk. My 15x50 weigh one 1.1kg and that felt pretty secure. I mean, you could try and see how you get on but I would not like to guarantee it.
Mark, great video, looking forward to more! Really love that bino viewer; can you use something like that with an Obsession Newtonian?
I recorded the comet in night vision last night and uploaded it. I was surprised at how slow it seems to be moving but then again, it's really far away.
Nice one! It must be great in a night vision set up. It is slowly crawling against the background stars but you can defo see the difference from one day to the next.
@@RefreshingViews It was a timelapse of half an hour actually. Sped up to a 5 minutes clip. The original (slow) footage is in my recorded livestream.
So many wires
Yeah, Shane has it pretty well pimped up with all the accessories.
