Berlin Syndrome (2017) Film Analysis [Part 2]
Your whole diatribe about courtship is bizarre and outdated. You should relisten…i can’t imagine that someone as intelligent as you really can say that. Jeeeez.
Being vegetarian for ethical reasons is not an eating preference. I don't know where you pull from that sensibility is rare in men. That's kinda rude. You hurt my feelings.
What bugged me the most is that they called Patrick & Karin when they had the car accident at the end 🫠 instead of calling the police or something like that. (If I remember it correctly... I think in the car Louise said something like "thanks for coming to get us" towards Karin)
You’re projecting too much
"when someone else ends up in the life that could've been yours" That's such a perfect description, and i think the only time jong su does something, is at the end when he kills ben. There's so much to break down and to understand in this movie it's crazy. Also the fact that there are so many different versions of the story which are possible
I think Carl actually starts to like Abigail, as she sees him as 1) something good & exclusive 2) as a real person. And,unlike Yaya she has some realness and real qualities to her
love ur analysis. seeing how many famillies who being trapped & murdered we can say what Bjorn-Louis marriage problems are happening in a lot of famillies (lack of trust-communication on each other, 'yes' people, lack of sex, failed to set boundaries, surrounded by fake friends, etc). in Speak no evil 2024 Louise even have an affair that his husband finds d*ck photos on her phone
Your character analysis is amazing. i am a fan.
Pretty based take! Justine is a psychopath
please make more videos
Habits are you
Its funny how Patrick didnt ask them if you left, why did you come back?
If you can feed a vegetarian (pescatarian) meet, what cant you do? Nothing. They already knew Byorjn was the weak one, if they can get the vege to eat meat they've got them both.
Brilliant breakdown, subbed, just watched this film, definitely mever can see it again, but, it was a very deeply disturbing tale of being to nice, and trusting to easily, your analysis is amazing, subbed! 🤯💯
I hated the husband he was so damn weak.
I absolutely love you!!! Did you say TRAMP as in bum? How delightful you make everything sound! Where are you from? Love your analysis of this film and look forward to hearing your take on the James McAvoy remake!
Oh wow this analysis shows how so many people can be this dumb about understanding depression.
It looks like they’re just stealing the assets and properties of their victims, as in the final scene they’re on their way to another couples location they’ve manipulated with Agnes, as opposed to Bjorne and his family going to their location. I would guess it goes back and forth in a very twisted game. Also what interested me was that road house restaurant was completely empty like a contrived setting for them to continue the act. Perhaps more people are involved in the scheme like the babysitter and the waiter
before Bjorn finds Abel died in the pool, he discovered a room outside the house that full of briefcase-camera etc. is that belongs to the victims ?
Great work
Sorry but you completely missed the point of this movie. Your analysis is that she had to pay for not being her “true self.” But that is the absolute opposite of what the makers wanted to say with the film. There is no "true self" - we are all products of our environment. Human consciousness is like a substance that can assume all possible states of aggregation. It's always the same mind but it doesn't always react the same way. You're in a different mood on a rainy Monday morning than you are on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Which of these is your true self? When you are hungry or tired you react differently than when you are not. If you have had a successful day, your mood will be better than if your cat was just run over. Which of these is your “true self”? Saras Clone is a people pleaser and does all the things that Sara didn't do - she takes care of herself, she goes out, visits her mother, makes her boyfriend feel special, etc. - only to end up to be just as unhappy as Sara. Our lives determine our consciousness - not the other way around.
Bruh this is why I take so long to make friends 😂 I don’t trust a soul and I’m very good at maintaining distance and I’m very protective of my kids 😂 men on the otherhand ain’t shit - very happy to sacrifice their wife and child’s comfort and safety to maintain guy code
I got pretty darn upset with Jung-Soo at the cafe, when Ben lays it all out, saying she cant even tell the guy she likes- that she likes him. Like bruh come on
A lot of your analysis is blaming the characters on superficial things. The ending with her crying in her husbands arms is about the passing of the torch and finally giving up her Korean roots. In the film they stated in nyc she never cries and also we see she was a crybaby in Korea so now she can finally move on from the past love of being Korean and be herself in nyc. The conversation alone with the friend at the bar and the walk to the taxi was needed because he finally understood that he was holding her back and he needed to let go just as she did. That’s why he showed the flashback with them as kids again. Each time he had a choice and each time he failed. They both can now move on. Nora from her roots in Korea and the guy from his love for Nora
This is lessor magic 🪄 for the person it’s about.
Sounds like she is tired of everything, everyone and life itself.... Depression does that!
Wtf is wrong with your perception? Did you mess this up on purpose? Did you even bother watching this movie OR learn ANYTHING about depression? Absolute miss.
This analysis was good
Patrick flatters both Bjorn and Louise manipulatively (insincerely) to gain their favor, unduly because retrieving stuffed animals is not heroic, nor is it that laudable to be vegetarian to the point of serving as role model. He furthermore lies when he says he's a doctor (highly respected helper of people) to gain their trust. The former is his laudatory abuse of them. The latter is his laudatory abuse of himself. Patrick uses Machiavellianism to set the snare that promises to bring him (and wife) ultimate Sadistic delight -- like the interhuman Predator that he obviously is, likely demonically possessed too (as becomes indirectly clear when he apologetically confesses to Bjorn in the car, "sometimes I have this thing right here, and it's so powerful and wild and I like it. That's the weird part. I really like it." Bjorn then admits to recognizing what Patrick is saying but that he manages to keep it under control, thereby suggesting to actually both be possessed but that Patrick allows it free rein, unlike Bjorn).
Would love to listen to your analysis of the representation of Soe-Rae from the angle of how she was a part of an inter-ethnic relationship( affair)
Awesome review
Just excellent analysis. Well done.
Agreed
How does the most quality analysis have so little views! The way you support your claims with text!
thank you:)
I haven't seen the whole movie yet, because l haven't download Prime video but, in my humble opinion, Pippa has developed a hugs crush and a heavy obsession, for her extremely hot neighbour Sebastian. She has tried everything until she had what she has dreamed since she saw him for the first time: a steamy one night stand with her next door hunk. Maybe Thomas was feeling it, these are issues you "feel" when you love someone, so he temporarily left, to come back and being killed by the evilish couple. As wrote on other comments, the four of them had insane obsessions ( maybe just Thomas was the real victim) that leaded to a very unhappy ending. Thankyou for the great job you did with this video, much appreciated 🫂🤗.
Hey, i discovered your channel today and really appreciate your work on this channel. And your description of why you created this channel is really inspiring. You haven't let the limitations of your surrounding to stop what you want to do. The quality of content you have created deserves a lot more views and i really hope you get a wider audience in case that's what you are hoping for.
Hi! Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving this comment! It made me smile :)
When I recently saw this film, I became obsessed with discovering its deeper meaning. I couldn't stop thinking about this movie and its scenes for days, despite not knowing what it was about. Although I didn't understand the majority of the metaphors and meanings, there was something about this film that stuck with me, kept me occupied, and made me think. After watching a lot of analysis, I wasn't completely satisfied, to be honest. But somehow your analysis really spoke to me; each and everything you said really spoke to me, and I was able to find closure. Thank you so much for the analysis. Great work!! <3
Oh, this makes me so happy. I know the feeling you're describing. For me, it's when I'm done with the analysis of the movie, then I feel calm :)
Toxic environment of people. The depressed woman is blamed for a lot of things and people cling to her trying to "save" her.
I always thought the film pointed out people's attempts to try to own the mind of others and shape them in their own image. Meanwhile, the "depressed" person seems intelligent emotionally of others ways. In the end she comforts more readily than any other, having always been at "the bottom" of existence.
Oh my god! I absolutely love your analysis. I can't imagine being married to someone who can't move on from their first love. I don't like a people like hae sung.
How did you like “Past Lives”? I enjoyed watching it. It’s a beautiful film thought-provoking film. It kind of reminded me of “Last Night” (2010), which makes me think, should I make a video on “Last Night”? Let me know if you want it!

This movie is about everything but Justine.
This was a high quality analysis, thank you!
thank you!
You spent so much time with the details of the human interaction of the movie without mentioning once the real outcome of the movie! The end of the world!! Why?
because I'm interested in human interaction, I do this in every video :)
@@filmsandmovieschannel very poorly in this case.
This is an interesting review focused on the personal motives of the characters as seen from an outsider's perspective. I can see this point of view is just as valid as the ones focused more on the depressive side of the characters.
Patrick really sums it up at the end. “because you let me”. They go to their death like sheep, offering no resistance, knowing their daughter is in danger and has been mutilated in front of their eyes. There is no survival instinct strong enough kicking in to fight like hell for their child, it’s two against two! They are not that physically superior to them. Their submission is pure terror and impairing low self worth. They give up.
I thought the movie was weird in a good way. There was alot i didnt understand but I found it to be an interesting movie.
Thanks for explaining.. i was looking for just the ending but you did an amazing explaining the whole thing. Keep it up
Thank you so much!
The worst analysis of the movie.
I know, I just can't shut up about myself:)
A horror movie, a pschothriller and a drama at the same time, that definitely mirrors us social boundaries, how clinging to good behaviour can show us limits of humanitypf delf esteem of what human race is able to do hidden like devils in disguise.... this story tells us so much about society about cruelty and how far people go to achieve their aims. When I watched It for the first time, I deeply recognize the treasure I have just found. .. the abysses of people's mind, the recklessness and how they can easiöy manipulate and drive others to madness. The movie leaves us breathless, speechlees and deeply hurt behind.... without a final answer.... And thats what makes a good a really really sensitive and peofound movie ..... God's least precious invention? That thought comes up...
This movie is absolutely dumb and illogical. Nobody would behave like that from the beginning to the very end.... 😂 too many facepalm moments sorry....
It's a movie :) I think Stephen King who said fictional horror shouldn't too real; otherwise we would get too scared to watch.
Just watched the movie.. it was very frustrating to watch two super-docile and low IQ humans just give in to the serial killers’ deeds.. great analysis tho.. attention to every tiny detail. Would love to talk to you about these kinds of movies (I’m no Patrick lmao). You should totally create a letterboxd or something tbh recommending all the psychological movies like this.
