I really enjoyed the series on this bike. To me it doesn't get any better than a 60s XLCH. Thanks for doing this. Question: Seeing that the XLCH models didn't come with an oil filter wouldn't a spin-on set up piped in to the front left motor mount be a good idea? Anyway, this is by far the best channel for the Ironhead guys. Keep 'em coming!

I used to work on these Sportsters when they were new (how old am I :) ), they sold + .020" and -.020" over (and under) length shifter forks and shims for the shifter assembly to fine tune the gearbox operation .

It royaly pissis me off when you buy a new part, with an inflated price and then you get it and then you have to modify the piece of shit to make it the way that the factory should have made it in the first place. Good job.

Gary, all I can say is that you showed some very good/interesting information today. I think the most impressive part was you noticing the lack of the spring click while shifting into 4th... then to see how to resolve the issue was the icing on the cake. Thanks (I think that xr750/mix cycle would fit me just fine!!!)

There is an important difference between a mechanic and a parts changer. You are a mechanic!

Mine always shifted good until it didnt.some how .tranny went to crunching in 3rd gear wound up just before I was ready to shift 4th and everything locked up.put big crack in tranny/engine case halves underneath the starter.i haven't dug into it yet.
