Gary, all I can say is that you showed some very good/interesting information today. I think the most impressive part was you noticing the lack of the spring click while shifting into 4th... then to see how to resolve the issue was the icing on the cake. Thanks (I think that xr750/mix cycle would fit me just fine!!!)
Great info! Love your attention to details. You are right that it is getting harder and harder to source out decent parts these days. Sometime you gotta work with what you got, and make it work, as you have done here!
I used to work on these Sportsters when they were new (how old am I :) ), they sold + .020" and -.020" over (and under) length shifter forks and shims for the shifter assembly to fine tune the gearbox operation .
It royaly pissis me off when you buy a new part, with an inflated price and then you get it and then you have to modify the piece of shit to make it the way that the factory should have made it in the first place. Good job.
There is an important difference between a mechanic and a parts changer. You are a mechanic!
Thank You!
Nice photo , agree with shoddy , scarcely of parts , not to mention the price s went up. Good work

Yep, it just didn't sound right. And I'd really like to have that homemade XR parked in my garage...

There are many booby traps out there, this one has been revealed. Where will the next one pop up?
Good catch
Thanks

Yes, and I was test fitting different forks when I discovered this problem.
Well well Done
Thank You!
Great diagnostics gary
Thank you, it did take sometime to figure I out, that area is difficult to see.
Helpful video and very interesting motorcycle
Glad you think so! And, yes, the bike was very cool.

Is this interference with OEM parts or chi-com replacements ? Very informative video, Thanks.
I keep an assortment of shifter fork sizes, I have no idea where this particular one came from, other than from the bin on my shelves...
Custom fit parts don't
Leakproof seal will...
Well spoken

I've grown to expect that nearly every aftermarket part will need some level of modification.
