I got a lathe, I've got aluminum rod, I can make one sized to .001" in far less time than it takes to drive to auto parts store that may or may not have what I need.

Let them laugh. They probably can’t save an old Sportster like you can! A lot of old Sportsters, especially CHs have had a hard life.

Pretty sure welch plugs are available in multiple sizes at any quality auto parts store....all the way down to 1/8 inch.
